1 De novo Jesus lhes falou por parábolas, dizendo:

2 — O Reino dos Céus é semelhante a um rei que preparou uma festa de casamento para seu filho. 3 Enviou os seus servos a chamar os convidados para a festa, mas estes não quiseram vir. 4 Enviou ainda outros servos, dizendo: "Digam aos convidados: Eis que já preparei o meu banquete; os meus bois e animais da engorda já foram abatidos, e tudo está pronto; venham para a festa." 5 Mas os convidados não se importaram e se foram, um para o seu campo, outro para o seu negócio. 6 Outros, agarrando os servos, os maltrataram e mataram.

7 — O rei ficou furioso e, enviando as suas tropas, exterminou aqueles assassinos e incendiou a cidade deles. 8 Então disse aos seus servos: "A festa está pronta, mas os convidados não eram dignos. 9 Vão, pois, para as encruzilhadas dos caminhos e convidem para o banquete todos os que vocês encontrarem." 10 E, saindo aqueles servos pelas estradas, reuniram todos os que encontraram, maus e bons; e a sala do banquete ficou cheia de convidados.

11 — Mas, quando o rei entrou para ver os que estavam à mesa, notou ali um homem que não trazia veste nupcial 12 e perguntou-lhe: "Amigo, como você entrou aqui sem veste nupcial?" E ele emudeceu. 13 Então o rei ordenou aos serventes: "Amarrem os pés e as mãos dele e atirem-no para fora, nas trevas; ali haverá choro e ranger de dentes." 14 Porque muitos são chamados, mas poucos são escolhidos.

15 Então os fariseus se retiraram e consultaram entre si como surpreenderiam Jesus em alguma palavra. 16 E enviaram-lhe discípulos, juntamente com os herodianos, para lhe dizer:

— Mestre, sabemos que o senhor é verdadeiro e que ensina o caminho de Deus de acordo com a verdade, sem se importar com a opinião dos outros, porque não olha para a aparência das pessoas. 17 Assim sendo, diga-nos o que o senhor acha: é lícito pagar imposto a César ou não?

18 Mas Jesus, percebendo a maldade deles, respondeu:

— Hipócritas, por que vocês estão me pondo à prova? 19 Mostrem-me a moeda do imposto.

Trouxeram-lhe um denário. 20 E Jesus lhes perguntou:

— De quem é esta figura e esta inscrição?

21 Eles responderam:

— De César.

Então Jesus lhes disse:

— Deem, pois, a César o que é de César e a Deus o que é de Deus.

22 Ouvindo isto, se admiraram e, deixando-o, foram embora.

23 Naquele dia, alguns saduceus, que dizem não haver ressurreição, aproximaram-se de Jesus e lhe perguntaram:

24 — Mestre, Moisés disse: "Se alguém morrer, não tendo filhos, o irmão desse homem deve casar com a viúva e gerar descendentes para o falecido." 25 Ora, havia entre nós sete irmãos. O primeiro, tendo casado, morreu e, não tendo descendência, deixou sua mulher para seu irmão. 26 O mesmo aconteceu com o segundo, com o terceiro, até o sétimo. 27 Por fim, depois de todos, morreu também a mulher. 28 Portanto, na ressurreição, de qual dos sete ela será esposa? Porque todos casaram com ela.

29 Jesus respondeu:

— O erro de vocês está no fato de não conhecerem as Escrituras nem o poder de Deus. 30 Porque, na ressurreição, nem casam, nem se dão em casamento, mas são como os anjos no céu. 31 Quanto à ressurreição dos mortos, vocês nunca leram o que Deus disse a vocês: 32 "Eu sou o Deus de Abraão, o Deus de Isaque e o Deus de Jacó"? Ele não é Deus de mortos, e sim de vivos.

33 Ouvindo isto, as multidões se maravilhavam da sua doutrina.

34 Entretanto, os fariseus, sabendo que Jesus havia silenciado os saduceus, reuniram-se em conselho. 35 E um deles, intérprete da Lei, querendo pôr Jesus à prova, perguntou-lhe:

36 — Mestre, qual é o grande mandamento na Lei?

37 Jesus respondeu:

— "Ame o Senhor, seu Deus, de todo o seu coração, de toda a sua alma e de todo o seu entendimento." 38 Este é o grande e primeiro mandamento. 39 E o segundo, semelhante a este, é: "Ame o seu próximo como você ama a si mesmo." 40 Destes dois mandamentos dependem toda a Lei e os Profetas.

41 Estando reunidos os fariseus, Jesus lhes perguntou:

42 — O que vocês pensam do Cristo? De quem é filho?

Eles responderam:

— De Davi.

43 E Jesus perguntou:

— Então, como é que Davi, pelo Espírito, chama o Cristo de Senhor, dizendo:

44 "Disse o Senhor ao meu Senhor:

‘Sente-se à minha direita,

até que eu ponha os seus inimigos

debaixo dos seus pés’"?

45 — Portanto, se Davi o chama de Senhor, como ele pode ser filho de Davi?

46 E ninguém podia lhe responder uma palavra; e a partir daquele dia ninguém mais ousou fazer perguntas.

1 And having responded, Jesus again spoke to them in parables, saying,2 The kingdom of the heavens is like a man, a king who made a wedding for his son.3 And he sent forth his bondmen to call those who were invited to the wedding festivities, and they did not want to come.4 Again he sent forth other bondmen, saying, Speak to those who were invited, Behold, I have prepared my dinner. My oxen and my fatlings have been killed, and all things are ready. Come to the wedding festivities.5 But having disregarded, they departed, one to his own farm, another to his merchandise,6 and the others having seized his bondmen, abused and killed them.7 But having heard that, the king was angry, and having sent forth his armies, he destroyed those murderers, and burned their city.8 Then he says to his bondmen, The wedding is indeed ready, but those who were invited were not worthy.9 Go ye therefore to the crossings of the ways, and as many as ye may find, call to the wedding festivities.10 And those bondmen having departed into the roads, they gathered together all, as many as they found, both bad and good. And the wedding was filled with those who were dining.11 But when the king came in to see those who were dining, he saw there a man who was not clothed with a wedding garment.12 And he says to him, Friend, how did thou come in here not having a wedding garment? But he was speechless.13 Then the king said to the helpers, After binding him hands and feet, take him away and cast him out into the outer darkness. There will be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.14 For many are called, but few chosen.15 Then the Pharisees having departed, they took counsel how they might trap him in his talk.16 And they send out their disciples to him, with the Herodians, saying, Teacher, we know that thou are true, and teach the way of God in truth, and it is not a concern to thee about a man, for thou look not to the personage of men.17 Tell us therefore, what does it seem to thee? Is it permitted to give tribute to Caesar or not?18 But Jesus having known their wickedness, said, Why do ye tempt me, ye hypocrites?19 Exhibit to me the tribute money. And they brought to him a denarius.20 And he says to them, Whose is this image and inscription?21 They say to him, Caesar's. Then he says to them, Therefore, render the things of Caesar to Caesar, and the things of God to God.22 And when they heard it, they marveled. And having left him, they departed.23 On that day Sadducees came to him, those who claim to be no resurrection. And they questioned him, saying,24 Teacher, Moses said, If some man dies, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up seed to his brother.25 Now there were with us seven brothers. And the first having married perished. And having no seed left his wife to his brother.26 Likewise also the second, and the third, until the seventh.27 And last of all, the woman also died.28 In the resurrection therefore, which of the seven will she be wife? For they all had her.29 But having answered, Jesus said to them, Ye are led astray, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.30 For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as agents of God in heaven.31 But concerning the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken to you by God, saying,32 I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not God of the dead, but of the living.33 And when the multitudes heard it, they were astonished at his doctrine.34 But the Pharisees, having heard that he silenced the Sadducees, they came together in the same place.35 And one of them, a lawyer, questioned, trying him, and saying,36 Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?37 And Jesus said to him, Thou shall love Lord thy God with thy whole heart, and with thy whole soul, and with thy whole mind.38 This is the first and great commandment.39 And the second is like it, Thou shall love thy neighbor as thyself.40 On these two commandments hang all the law, and the prophets.41 Now the Pharisees having been gathered together, Jesus interrogated them, saying,42 What does it seem to you about the Christ? Whose son is he? They say to him, Of David.43 He says to them, How then does David in spirit call him Lord, saying,44 The Lord said to my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand until I place thine enemies a footstool of thy feet?45 If David therefore calls him Lord, how is he his son?46 And no man was able to answer him a word, nor did any man from that day dare to question him any more.
