1 Quero que saibam quão grande tem sido a nossa luta por vocês, pelos que moram em Laodiceia e por muitos outros que não me viram face a face. 2 Faço isto para que o coração deles seja consolado e para que eles, vinculados em amor, tenham toda a riqueza da plena convicção do entendimento, para conhecimento do mistério de Deus, que é Cristo, 3 em quem estão ocultos todos os tesouros da sabedoria e do conhecimento. 4 Digo isso a vocês para que ninguém os engane com argumentos falaciosos. 5 Porque, embora ausente em pessoa, em espírito estou com vocês, alegrando-me e verificando a boa ordem de vocês e a firmeza da fé que têm em Cristo.

6 Portanto, assim como vocês receberam Cristo Jesus, o Senhor, continuem a viver nele, 7 estando enraizados e edificados nele, e confirmados na fé, como foi ensinado a vocês, crescendo em ação de graças.

8 Tenham cuidado para que ninguém venha a enredá-los com sua filosofia e vãs sutilezas, conforme a tradição dos homens, conforme os rudimentos do mundo e não segundo Cristo. 9 Porque nele habita corporalmente toda a plenitude da divindade. 10 Também, nele, vocês receberam a plenitude. Ele é o cabeça de todo principado e potestade. 11 Nele também vocês foram circuncidados, não com uma circuncisão feita por mãos humanas, mas pela remoção do corpo da carne, que é a circuncisão de Cristo, 12 tendo sido sepultados juntamente com ele no batismo, no qual vocês também foram ressuscitados por meio da fé no poder de Deus que o ressuscitou dentre os mortos. 13 E quando vocês estavam mortos nos seus pecados e na incircuncisão da carne, ele lhes deu vida juntamente com Cristo, perdoando todos os nossos pecados. 14 Cancelando o escrito de dívida que era contra nós e que constava de ordenanças, o qual nos era prejudicial, removeu-o inteiramente, cravando-o na cruz. 15 E, despojando os principados e as potestades, publicamente os expôs ao desprezo, triunfando sobre eles na cruz.

16 Portanto, que ninguém julgue vocês por causa de comida e bebida, ou dia de festa, ou lua nova, ou sábados, 17 porque tudo isso tem sido sombra das coisas que haviam de vir; porém o corpo é de Cristo. 18 Não deixem que ninguém se faça de árbitro para desqualificar vocês, com pretexto de humildade e culto de anjos, baseando-se em visões, estando cheio de orgulho, sem motivo algum, na sua mente carnal, 19 e não retendo a cabeça, a partir da qual todo o corpo, suprido e bem-vinculado por suas juntas e ligamentos, cresce o crescimento que vem de Deus.

20 Se vocês morreram com Cristo para os rudimentos do mundo, por que se sujeitam a regras, como se ainda vivessem no mundo? 21 "Não toque nisto", "não coma disso", "não pegue naquilo". 22 Todas estas coisas se destroem com o uso; são preceitos e doutrinas dos homens. 23 De fato, essas coisas têm aparência de sabedoria, ao promoverem um culto que as pessoas inventam, falsa humildade e tratamento austero do corpo. Mas elas não têm valor algum na luta contra as inclinações da carne.

1 For I would have you know how greatly I strive for you, and for them at Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh; 2 that their hearts may be comforted, they being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, that they may know the mystery of God, even Christ, 3 in whom are all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge hidden. 4 This I say, that no one may delude you with persuasiveness of speech. 5 For though I am absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, joying and beholding your order, and the stedfastness of your faith in Christ.

6 As therefore ye received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, 7 rooted and builded up in him, and established in your faith, even as ye were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.

8 Take heed lest there shall be any one that maketh spoil of you through his philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ: 9 for in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily, 10 and in him ye are made full, who is the head of all principality and power: 11 in whom ye were also circumcised with a circumcision not made with hands, in the putting off of the body of the flesh, in the circumcision of Christ; 12 having been buried with him in baptism, wherein ye were also raised with him through faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead. 13 And you, being dead through your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, you, I say, did he make alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses; 14 having blotted out the bond written in ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us: and he hath taken it out of the way, nailing it to the cross; 15 having despoiled the principalities and the powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of a feast day or a new moon or a sabbath day: 17 which are a shadow of the things to come; but the body is Christ’s. 18 Let no man rob you of your prize by a voluntary humility and worshipping of the angels, dwelling in the things which he hath seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, 19 and not holding fast the Head, from whom all the body, being supplied and knit together through the joints and bands, increaseth with the increase of God.

20 If ye died with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, do ye subject yourselves to ordinances, 21 Handle not, nor taste, nor touch 22 (all which things are to perish with the using), after the precepts and doctrines of men? 23 Which things have indeed a show of wisdom in will-worship, and humility, and severity to the body; but are not of any value against the indulgence of the flesh.
