1 Filhos, escutem

a instrução do pai;

estejam atentos para que

obtenham o entendimento.

2 Porque eu lhes dou

boa instrução;

não abandonem o meu ensino.

3 Quando eu era menino

em companhia de meu pai,

uma criança inexperiente, mas única

aos olhos de minha mãe,

4 ele me ensinava e me dizia:

"Que o seu coração retenha

as minhas palavras;

guarde os meus mandamentos

e você viverá.

5 Adquira a sabedoria,

adquira o entendimento;

não se esqueça nem se afaste

das minhas palavras.

6 Não abandone a sabedoria,

e ela guardará você;

ame-a, e ela o protegerá.

7 O princípio da sabedoria é:

adquira a sabedoria;

sim, com tudo o que você possui,

adquira o entendimento.

8 Valorize a sabedoria,

e ela o exaltará;

se você a abraçar, ela o honrará.

9 Ela porá um diadema de graça

em sua cabeça

e lhe entregará

uma coroa de glória."

10 Meu filho, escute e aceite

as minhas palavras,

e os anos de sua vida

se multiplicarão.

11 Eu ensinei a você

o caminho da sabedoria

e o fiz andar

pelas veredas da retidão.

12 Se você andar por elas,

os seus passos

não se embaraçarão;

se você correr, não tropeçará.

13 Retenha a instrução

e não a deixe;

guarde-a, porque ela é a sua vida.

14 Não entre na vereda dos ímpios,

nem siga pelo caminho dos maus.

15 Evite esse caminho;

não passe por ele;

desvie-se dele e passe longe.

16 Os maus não dormem,

se não fizerem o mal;

o sono foge deles, se não fizerem

alguém tropeçar.

17 Porque comem

o pão da maldade

e bebem o vinho das violências.

18 Mas a vereda dos justos

é como a luz do alvorecer,

que vai brilhando mais e mais

até ser dia claro.

19 O caminho dos ímpios

é como a escuridão;

nem eles sabem em que tropeçam.

20 Meu filho, escute

as minhas palavras;

preste atenção

aos meus ensinamentos.

21 Não deixe que eles se afastem

dos seus olhos;

guarde-os no mais íntimo

do seu coração.

22 Porque são vida

para quem os encontra

e saúde para todo o seu corpo.

23 De tudo o que se deve guardar,

guarde bem o seu coração,

porque dele procedem

as fontes da vida.

24 Afaste de você

a falsidade da boca

e mantenha longe de você

a perversidade dos lábios.

25 Que os seus olhos olhem direito,

e que as suas vistas se fixem

no que está diante de você.

26 Faça plana a vereda de seus pés,

para que todos os seus caminhos

sejam retos.

27 Não se incline nem para a direita

nem para a esquerda;

afaste os seus pés do mal.

1 Hear, my sons, the instruction of a father,

And attend to know understanding:

2 For I give you good doctrine;

Forsake ye not my law.

3 For I was a son unto my father,

Tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother.

4 And he taught me, and said unto me:

Let thy heart retain my words;

Keep my commandments, and live;

5 Get wisdom, get understanding;

Forget not, neither decline from the words of my mouth;

6 Forsake her not, and she will preserve thee;

Love her, and she will keep thee.

7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom;

Yea, with all thy getting get understanding.

8 Exalt her, and she will promote thee;

She will bring thee to honor, when thou dost embrace her.

9 She will give to thy head a chaplet of grace;

A crown of beauty will she deliver to thee.

10 Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings;

And the years of thy life shall be many.

11 I have taught thee in the way of wisdom;

I have led thee in paths of uprightness.

12 When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened;

And if thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.

13 Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go:

Keep her; for she is thy life.

14 Enter not into the path of the wicked,

And walk not in the way of evil men.

15 Avoid it, pass not by it;

Turn from it, and pass on.

16 For they sleep not, except they do evil;

And their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall.

17 For they eat the bread of wickedness,

And drink the wine of violence.

18 But the path of the righteous is as the dawning light,

That shineth more and more unto the perfect day.

19 The way of the wicked is as darkness:

They know not at what they stumble.

20 My son, attend to my words;

Incline thine ear unto my sayings.

21 Let them not depart from thine eyes;

Keep them in the midst of thy heart.

22 For they are life unto those that find them,

And health to all their flesh.

23 Keep thy heart with all diligence;

For out of it are the issues of life.

24 Put away from thee a wayward mouth,

And perverse lips put far from thee.

25 Let thine eyes look right on,

And let thine eyelids look straight before thee.

26 Make level the path of thy feet,

And let all thy ways be established.

27 Turn not to the right hand nor to the left:

Remove thy foot from evil.
