1 Aconteceu que Jesus estava junto ao lago de Genesaré, e a multidão o apertava para ouvir a palavra de Deus. 2 Então ele viu dois barcos junto à praia do lago. Os pescadores tinham desembarcado e estavam lavando as redes. 3 Entrando num dos barcos, que era o de Simão, Jesus pediu-lhe que o afastasse um pouco da praia; e, assentando-se, do barco ensinava as multidões. 4 Quando acabou de falar, Jesus disse a Simão:

— Leve o barco para o lugar mais fundo do lago e então lancem as redes de vocês para pescar.

5 Em resposta, Simão disse:

— Mestre, havendo trabalhado toda a noite, nada apanhamos; mas, sob esta sua palavra, lançarei as redes.

6 Fazendo isso, apanharam grande quantidade de peixes; e as redes deles começaram a se romper. 7 Então fizeram sinais aos companheiros do outro barco, para que fossem ajudá-los. E foram e encheram ambos os barcos, a ponto de quase afundarem. 8 Vendo isto, Simão Pedro prostrou-se aos pés de Jesus, dizendo:

— Senhor, afaste-se de mim, porque sou pecador.

9 Pois, à vista da pesca que fizeram, a admiração se apoderou dele e de todos os seus companheiros, 10 bem como de Tiago e João, filhos de Zebedeu, que eram seus sócios. Então Jesus disse a Simão:

— Não tenha medo! De agora em diante você será pescador de gente.

11 E, arrastando eles os barcos para a praia, deixando tudo, o seguiram.

12 Aconteceu que, estando Jesus numa das cidades, um homem coberto de lepra veio à sua presença. Quando ele viu Jesus, prostrou-se com o rosto em terra e pediu:

— Senhor, se quiser, pode purificar-me.

13 E Jesus, estendendo a mão, tocou nele, dizendo:

— Quero, sim. Fique limpo!

E, no mesmo instante, a lepra daquele homem desapareceu. 14 Jesus ordenou-lhe que não contasse isso a ninguém. E acrescentou:

— Mas vá, apresente-se ao sacerdote e ofereça pela purificação o sacrifício que Moisés ordenou, para servir de testemunho ao povo.

15 Porém o que se dizia a respeito de Jesus se espalhava cada vez mais, e grandes multidões afluíam para o ouvir e para serem curadas de suas enfermidades. 16 Jesus, porém, se retirava para lugares solitários e orava.

17 E aconteceu que, num daqueles dias, Jesus estava ensinando, e achavam-se ali assentados fariseus e mestres da Lei, vindos de todas as aldeias da Galileia, da Judeia e de Jerusalém. E o poder do Senhor estava com ele para curar. 18 Vieram, então, alguns homens trazendo um paralítico deitado num leito. Eles procuravam levá-lo para dentro e colocá-lo diante de Jesus. 19 E, não encontrando uma forma de fazer isso por causa da multidão, subiram ao telhado e, por entre as telhas, desceram o paralítico no seu leito, deixando-o no meio das pessoas, diante de Jesus. 20 Vendo-lhes a fé, Jesus disse ao paralítico:

— Homem, os seus pecados estão perdoados.

21 E os escribas e fariseus começaram a pensar:

— Quem é este que diz blasfêmias? Quem pode perdoar pecados, a não ser um, que é Deus?

22 Jesus, porém, conhecendo os pensamentos deles, disse-lhes:

— O que vocês estão pensando em seu coração? 23 O que é mais fácil? Dizer: "Os seus pecados estão perdoados", ou dizer: "Levante-se e ande"? 24 Mas isto é para que vocês saibam que o Filho do Homem tem autoridade sobre a terra para perdoar pecados.

E disse ao paralítico:

— Eu digo a você: Levante-se, pegue o seu leito e vá para casa.

25 E imediatamente ele se levantou diante de todos e, pegando o leito em que até então estava deitado, voltou para casa, glorificando a Deus. 26 Todos ficaram muito admirados, davam glória a Deus e, cheios de temor, diziam:

— Hoje vimos coisas extraordinárias!

27 Depois disso, Jesus saiu e viu um publicano, chamado Levi, sentado na coletoria. E lhe disse:

— Siga-me!

28 Ele se levantou e, deixando tudo, o seguiu.

29 Então Levi lhe ofereceu um grande banquete em sua casa; e era grande o número de publicanos e outras pessoas que estavam com eles à mesa. 30 Os fariseus e seus escribas murmuravam contra os discípulos de Jesus, perguntando:

— Por que vocês comem e bebem com os publicanos e pecadores?

31 Jesus tomou a palavra e disse:

— Os sãos não precisam de médico, e sim os doentes. 32 Não vim chamar justos, e sim pecadores, ao arrependimento.

33 Então eles disseram a Jesus:

— Os discípulos de João frequentemente jejuam e fazem orações, e os discípulos dos fariseus fazem o mesmo; mas os seus discípulos comem e bebem.

34 Jesus, porém, lhes disse:

— Será que vocês podem fazer com que os convidados para o casamento jejuem enquanto o noivo está com eles? 35 No entanto, virão dias em que o noivo lhes será tirado, e então, naqueles dias, eles vão jejuar.

36 Também lhes contou uma parábola:

— Ninguém tira um pedaço de uma roupa nova para colocar sobre roupa velha; pois, se o fizer, rasgará a roupa nova, e, além disso, o remendo da roupa nova não combinará com a roupa velha. 37 E ninguém põe vinho novo em odres velhos, porque, se fizer isso, o vinho novo romperá os odres, o vinho se derramará, e os odres se estragarão. 38 Pelo contrário, vinho novo deve ser posto em odres novos. 39 E ninguém, tendo bebido o vinho velho, prefere o novo, porque diz: "O velho é excelente."

1 Jesus stood by the Lake of Gennesaret as the crowds pressed in upon him in order to hear the word of God.2 He saw two boats docked by the shore. The fishermen had gone away from them and were washing their nets.3 He boarded one of the boats. It was Simon’s boat. He asked him to put out a little from the land. And he sat down and taught the crowds from the boat.4 When he finished speaking he asked Simon to put into deep water and let down the nets for a catch.5 Simon answered, Master we worked all night and caught nothing. At your word I will let down the nets.6 When they did this they caught a large number of fish and their nets were breaking.7 They called their partners in the other boat to come and help them. They filled both boats until they began to sink.8 When Simon Peter saw this he fell down at Jesus’ knees. He said: »Depart from me for I am a sinful man, O Lord.«9 He and all who were with him were amazed at the catch of fish.10 So were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. Jesus said to Simon: »Do not fear. From now on you will catch men.«11 After they brought their boats to land they left all and followed him.12 One time while he was in one of the cities a man full of leprosy fell on his face before Jesus. He said: »Lord, if you want to you can make me clean.«13 He stretched forth his hand and touched him, saying: »I want to, be made clean.« Immediately the leprosy departed from him.14 He told him to tell no one and go and show himself to the priest. Then he was to make a cleansing offering, just as Moses commanded, for a testimony to them.15 The news about him spread far away and large crowds gathered to hear him and to be healed of their infirmities.16 He withdrew to a quiet place and prayed.17 One day when he was teaching, Pharisees and doctors of the Law were in the crowd. People came from every village of Galilee, Judea and Jerusalem. God’s power was with him to heal.18 Men brought a man on a bed. He was paralyzed. They tried to bring him in and lay him before Jesus.19 They could not find a way to bring him in because of the crowd. So they went up to the housetop and let the man and the bed down through the tiles to Jesus.20 Seeing their faith, Jesus said: »Man your sins are forgiven you.«21 The scribes and the Pharisees reasoned saying: »Who is this that speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone?«22 Jesus perceived their reasoning and said to them: »Why do you reason in your hearts?23 »Which is easier to say your sins are forgiven or arise and walk?24 »So you may know that the Son of man has authority on earth to forgive sins,« he said to the man who was paralyzed, »I say to you, arise, take up your bed and go to your house.«25 Immediately he rose up before them, took his bed and departed to his house, glorifying God.26 Everyone was amazed and they glorified God. They were filled with fear. They said: »We have seen strange things today.«27 After that he met a tax collector named Levi sitting at his place of business. He told him: »Follow me.«28 He gave up everything and followed him.29 Levi made him a great feast in his house. There was a large group of tax collectors and of others that were sitting at the meal with them.30 And the Pharisees and their scribes complained to Jesus disciples. They asked: »Why do you eat and drink with the tax collectors and sinners?«31 Jesus answered them: »Those who have good health do not need a physician. The sick do.32 »I did not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.«33 They said: »The disciples of John fast often and make supplications. So do the disciples of the Pharisees. But yours eat and drink.«34 Jesus replied: »Could you make the sons of the bride-chamber fast while the bridegroom is with them?35 »The days will come and when the bridegroom will be taken away from them. Then they will fast.«36 He told an illustration to them: »No one takes a piece of cloth from a new garment and puts it on an old garment. Otherwise he will tear the new. Also the new will not match the old.37 »No one puts new wine in old wine skins. The new wine will burst the old skins and spill the wine.38 »But new wine must be put into fresh wine skins.39 »After drinking old wine no one desires the new for the old is better.«
