  1. KJV King James Version

3 As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine, 4 Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.

  2. NIV New International Version

3 As I urged you when I went into Macedonia, stay there in Ephesus so that you may command certain people not to teach false doctrines any longer 4 or to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies. Such things promote controversial speculations rather than advancing God’s work—which is by faith.

  3. ESV English Standard Version

3 [Titus 1:5] As I urged you when I was going to Macedonia, remain at Ephesus so that you may charge certain persons not ch. 6:3;[Gal. 1:6,7]to teach any different doctrine, 4 nor ch. 4:7;2 Tim. 4:4;Titus 1:14;2 Pet. 1:16to devote themselves to myths and endless Titus 3:9genealogies, which promote ch. 6:4speculations rather than the stewardship1:4 Or good order from God that is by faith.

  4. NLT New Living Translation

3 When I left for Macedonia, I urged you to stay there in Ephesus and stop those whose teaching is contrary to the truth. 4 Don’t let them waste their time in endless discussion of myths and spiritual pedigrees. These things only lead to meaningless speculations,1:4a Greek in myths and endless genealogies, which cause speculation. which don’t help people live a life of faith in God.1:4b Greek a stewardship of God in faith.

3 As I urged you when I went to Macedonia,  1:3 Ac 16:9 remain in Ephesus  1:3 Eph 1:1 so that you may instruct certain people  1:3 Jd 4 not to teach false doctrine 4 or to pay attention to myths  1:4 1Tm 4:7; 2Tm 4:4; Ti 1:14; 2Pt 1:16 and endless genealogies. These promote empty speculations rather than God’s plan,  1:4 Eph 1:10; 3:2,9; Col 1:25 which operates by faith.

  7. DRA Douay-Rheims American 1899

3 As I desired thee to remain at Ephesus when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some not to teach otherwise, 4 Not to give heed to fables and endless genealogies: which furnish questions rather than the edification of God, which is in faith.

  8. MSG The Message

3,4 On my way to the province of Macedonia, I advised you to stay in Ephesus. Well, I haven’t changed my mind. Stay right there on top of things so that the teaching stays on track. Apparently some people have been introducing fantasy stories and fanciful family trees that digress into silliness instead of pulling the people back into the center, deepening faith and obedience.
