14 Then said Zeresh his wife and all his friends unto him, Let a gallows be made of fifty cubits high, and to morrow speak thou unto the king that Mordecai may be hanged thereon: then go thou in merrily with the king unto the banquet. 4 "If it pleases the king," replied Esther, "let the king, together with Haman, come today to a banquet I have prepared for him."

8 If the king regards me with favor and if it pleases the king to grant my petition and fulfill my request, let the king and Haman come tomorrow to the banquet I will prepare for them. Then I will answer the king’s question."

Then go with the king to the banquet and enjoy yourself." This suggestion delighted Haman, and he had the pole set up.

The counsel pleased him, and he commanded a high gibbet to be prepared.

8. MSG The Message

1-3 Three days later Esther dressed in her royal robes and took up a position in the inner court of the palace in front of the king’s throne room. The king was on his throne facing the entrance. When he noticed Queen Esther standing in the court, he was pleased to see her; the king extended the gold scepter in his hand. Esther approached and touched the tip of the scepter. The king asked, "And what’s your desire, Queen Esther? What do you want? Ask and it’s yours—even if it’s half my kingdom!"

4 "If it please the king," said Esther, "let the king come with Haman to a dinner I’ve prepared for him."

7,8 Esther answered, "Here’s what I want. If the king favors me and is pleased to do what I desire and ask, let the king and Haman come again tomorrow to the dinner that I will fix for them. Then I’ll give a straight answer to the king’s question."

Haman liked that. He had the gallows built.
