9 Now He also told this parable to some people who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and viewed others with contempt: 14 I tell you, this man went to his house justified rather than the other one; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted."
9 And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: 14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
9 To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everyone else, Jesus told this parable:
14 "I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted."
9 He also told this parable to some ch. 16:15;[Matt. 5:20] who trusted 2 Cor. 1:9in themselves that they were righteous, Prov. 30:12;Isa. 65:5;John 7:48,49and treated others with contempt: 14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified, rather than the other. For See ch. 14:11everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted."
9 Then Jesus told this story to some who had great confidence in their own righteousness and scorned everyone else:
14 I tell you, this sinner, not the Pharisee, returned home justified before God. For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted."
9 Also He spoke this parable to some Prov. 30:12; Luke 10:29; 16:15who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: 14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; Job 22:29; Matt. 23:12; Luke 14:11; (James 4:6; 1 Pet. 5:5)for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."
9 He 18:9–14 Mt 18:4; 23:12; Lk 14:11 also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves 18:9 Mt 5:20; 2Co 1:9 that they were righteous 18:9 Lk 16:15 and looked down 18:9 Lk 23:11; Ac 4:11; Rm 14:3,10 on everyone else:
14 I tell you, this one went down to his house justified 18:14 Lk 16:15; Php 3:8rather than the other, because everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted." 18:14 Is 2:11; Lk 1:52; 3:5; 14:11
9 And to some who trusted in themselves as just, and despised others, he spoke also this parable: 14 I say to you, this man went down into his house justified rather that the other: because every one that exalteth himself, shall be humbled: and he that humbleth himself, shall be exalted.
9-12 He told his next story to some who were complacently pleased with themselves over their moral performance and looked down their noses at the common people: "Two men went up to the Temple to pray, one a Pharisee, the other a tax man. The Pharisee posed and prayed like this: ‘Oh, God, I thank you that I am not like other people—robbers, crooks, adulterers, or, heaven forbid, like this tax man. I fast twice a week and tithe on all my income.’
14 Jesus commented, "This tax man, not the other, went home made right with God. If you walk around with your nose in the air, you’re going to end up flat on your face, but if you’re content to be simply yourself, you will become more than yourself."
