1 Now the main point of what we are saying is this: We do have such a high priest, who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven,2 and who serves in the sanctuary, the true tabernacle set up by the Lord, not by a mere human being.3 Every high priest is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices, and so it was necessary for this one also to have something to offer.4 If he were on earth, he would not be a priest, for there are already priests who offer the gifts prescribed by the law.5 They serve at a sanctuary that is a copy and shadow of what is in heaven. This is why Moses was warned when he was about to build the tabernacle: "See to it that you make everything according to the pattern shown you on the mountain." [^1]6 But in fact the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant of which he is mediator is superior to the old one, since the new covenant is established on better promises.7 For if there had been nothing wrong with that first covenant, no place would have been sought for another.8 But God found fault with the people and said ": "The days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the people of Israel and with the people of Judah.9 It will not be like the covenant I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt, because they did not remain faithful to my covenant, and I turned away from them, declares the Lord.10 This is the covenant I will establish with the people of Israel after that time, declares the Lord. I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.11 No longer will they teach their neighbor, or say to one another, 'Know the Lord,' because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest.12 For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more." [^3]13 By calling this covenant "new," he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and outdated will soon disappear.

1 Đại ý điều chúng ta mới nói đó, là chúng ta có một thầy tế lễ thượng phẩm, ngồi bên hữu ngai của Đấng tôn nghiêm trong các từng trời,2 làm chức việc nơi thánh và đền tạm thật, bởi Chúa dựng lên, không phải bởi một người nào.3 Phàm thầy tế lễ thượng phẩm đã được lập lên là để dâng lễ vật và hi sinh; vậy thì Đấng nầy cũng cần phải dâng vật gì.4 Nếu Ngài còn ở thế gian, thì Ngài chẳng phải là thầy tế lễ, vì ở thế gian có những thầy tế lễ dâng lễ vật theo luật pháp dạy,5 và giữ sự thờ phượng, sự thờ phượng đó chẳng qua là hình và bóng của những sự trên trời mà thôi, cũng như khi Môi-se gần dựng đền tạm, thì Đức Chúa Trời phán bảo rằng: Hãy cẩn thận, làm mọi việc theo như kiểu mẫu đã chỉ cho ngươi tại trên núi.6 Nhưng thầy tế lễ thượng phẩm chúng ta đã được một chức vụ rất tôn trọng hơn, vì Ngài là Đấng trung bảo của giao ước tốt hơn, mà giao ước ấy lập lên trên lời hứa tốt hơn.7 Vì nếu ước thứ nhứt không thiếu gì, thì chẳng có chỗ nào lập ước thứ hai.8 Vả, trong những lời nầy thật có ý trách, là lời Đức Chúa Trời phán cùng dân Giu-đa rằng: Chúa phán: kìa, nhựt kỳ đến, Khi đó ta sẽ cùng nhà Y-sơ-ra-ên và nhà Giu-đa lập một ước mới,9 Không phải như ước ta đã lập với tổ tiên chúng nó, Trong ngày ta cầm tay họ dẫn ra khỏi xứ Ê-díp-tô. Vì họ không bền giữ lời ước ta, Nên ta không đoái xem họ, ấy là lời Chúa phán.10 Chúa lại phán: Nầy là lời ước mà ta sẽ lập với nhà Y-sơ-ra-ên Sau những ngày đó: Ta sẽ để luật pháp ta trong trí họ Và ghi tạc vào lòng; Ta sẽ làm Đức Chúa Trời họ, Họ sẽ làm dân ta.11 Trong vòng họ sẽ chẳng có ai dạy bảo công dân mình Và anh em mình, rằng: Hãy nhìn biết Chúa; Vì hết thảy trong vòng họ, Từ kẻ rất nhỏ cho đến kẻ rất lớn đều sẽ biết ta,12 Nhơn ta sẽ tha sự gian ác của họ, Và không nhớ đến tội lỗi họ nữa.13 Gọi ước đó là ước mới, thì đã xưng ước trước là cũ; vả, điều chi đã cũ đã già, thì gần tiêu mất đi.
