1 In the fifth month of that same year, the fourth year, early in the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, the prophet Hananiah son of Azzur, who was from Gibeon, said to me in the house of the LORD in the presence of the priests and all the people:2 "This is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: 'I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon.3 Within two years I will bring back to this place all the articles of the LORD's house that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon removed from here and took to Babylon.4 I will also bring back to this place Jehoiachin "son of Jehoiakim king of Judah and all the other exiles from Judah who went to Babylon,' declares the LORD, 'for I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon.'"5 Then the prophet Jeremiah replied to the prophet Hananiah before the priests and all the people who were standing in the house of the LORD.6 He said, "Amen! May the LORD do so! May the LORD fulfill the words you have prophesied by bringing the articles of the LORD's house and all the exiles back to this place from Babylon.7 Nevertheless, listen to what I have to say in your hearing and in the hearing of all the people:8 From early times the prophets who preceded you and me have prophesied war, disaster and plague against many countries and great kingdoms.9 But the prophet who prophesies peace will be recognized as one truly sent by the LORD only if his prediction comes true."10 Then the prophet Hananiah took the yoke off the neck of the prophet Jeremiah and broke it,11 and he said before all the people, "This is what the LORD says: 'In the same way I will break the yoke of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon off the neck of all the nations within two years.'" At this, the prophet Jeremiah went on his way.12 After the prophet Hananiah had broken the yoke off the neck of the prophet Jeremiah, the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah:13 "Go and tell Hananiah, 'This is what the LORD says: You have broken a wooden yoke, but in its place you will get a yoke of iron.14 This is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: I will put an iron yoke on the necks of all these nations to make them serve Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and they will serve him. I will even give him control over the wild animals.'"15 Then the prophet Jeremiah said to Hananiah the prophet, "Listen, Hananiah! The LORD has not sent you, yet you have persuaded this nation to trust in lies.16 Therefore this is what the LORD says: 'I am about to remove you from the face of the earth. This very year you are going to die, because you have preached rebellion against the LORD.'"17 In the seventh month of that same year, Hananiah the prophet died.

1 Cũng năm ấy, lúc Sê-đê-kia, vua Giu-đa, bắt đầu trị vì, tháng năm về năm thứ tư, Ha-na-nia, con trai A-xua, tiên tri ở Ga-ba-ôn, nói với tôi trong nhà Đức Giê-hô-va, trước mặt các thầy tế lễ và cả dân sự rằng:2 Đức Giê-hô-va vạn quân, Đức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên, phán như vầy: Ta đã bẻ ách của vua Ba-by-lôn.3 Trong hai năm trọn, mọi khí mạnh của nhà Đức Giê-hô-va mà Nê-bu-cát-nết-sa, vua Ba-by-lôn, đã cất đi khỏi chỗ nầy và dời qua Ba-by-lôn, thì ta sẽ lại đem về trong nơi nầy.4 Đức Giê-hô-va phán: Ta lại sẽ đem Giê-cô-nia, con trai Giê-hô-gia-kim, vua Giu-đa, và mọi người Giu-đa bị bắt làm phu tù qua Ba-by-lôn, cũng đều trở về trong nơi nầy nữa; vì ta sẽ bẻ ách của vua Ba-by-lôn.5 Bấy giờ, tiên tri Giê-rê-mi đáp cùng tiên tri Ha-na-nia, trước mặt các thầy tế lễ và cả dân sự đương đứng trong nhà Đức Giê-hô-va.6 Tiên tri Giê-rê-mi nói rằng: A-men, nguyền xin Đức Giê-hô-va làm như vậy! Nguyền xin Đức Giê-hô-va làm những lời ngươi đã nói tiên tri, đem những khí mạnh của nhà Đức Giê-hô-va và hết thảy những kẻ phu tù từ Ba-by-lôn trở về trong chốn nầy!7 Dầu vậy, hãy nghe lời tôi nói vào tai ngươi và vào tai cả dân sự rằng:8 Các tiên tri ở trước tôi và trước ngươi, từ xưa đã nói tiên tri về giặc giã, tai vạ, và ôn dịch cho nhiều xứ và các nước lớn.9 Nếu tiên tri được ứng nghiệm, thì sẽ biết tiên tri đó là thật bởi Đức Giê-hô-va sai đến!10 Tiên tri Ha-na-nia bèn cất cái ách khỏi cổ tiên tri Giê-rê-mi, và bẻ đi.11 Đoạn, Ha-na-nia nói trước mặt cả dân sự rằng: Đức Giê-hô-va phán như vầy: Trong hai năm trọn, ta cũng sẽ bẻ cái ách của Nê-bu-cát-nết-sa, vua Ba-by-lôn, khỏi cổ mọi nước như vầy. Tiên tri Giê-rê-mi bèn đi.12 Sai khi tiên tri Ha-na-nia đã cất cái ách khỏi cổ Giê-rê-mi, thì có lời Đức Giê-hô-va phán cùng Giê-rê-mi như vầy:13 Ngươi khá đi nói với Ha-na-nia rằng: Đức Giê-hô-va phán như vầy: Ngươi đã bẻ ách bằng săng: song làm ách bằng sắt mà thế lại.14 Vì Đức Giê-hô-va vạn quân, Đức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên, phán như vầy: Ta đã để ách bằng sắt trên cổ mọi nước nầy, đặng chúng nó phải làm tôi Nê-bu-cát-nết-sa, vua Ba-by-lôn. Vả, chúng nó phải làm tôi người, và ta đã ban các loài thú đồng cho người nữa.15 Đoạn, tiên tri Giê-rê-mi nói với tiên tri Ha-na-nia rằng: Hỡi Ha-na-nia, hãy nghe! Đức Giê-hô-va chưa hề sai ngươi, nhưng ngươi làm cho dân nầy trông cậy sự giả dối.16 Vậy nên, Đức Giê-hô-va phán như vầy: Nầy, ta sẽ duồng ngươi khỏi mặt đất, năm nay ngươi sẽ chết vì đã nói ra sự bạn nghịch Đức Giê-hô-va.17 Cũng năm ấy, tháng bảy, thì tiên tri Ha-na-nia chết.
