1 Another time Jesus went into the synagogue, and a man with a shriveled hand was there.2 Some of them were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, so they watched him closely to see if he would heal him on the Sabbath.3 Jesus said to the man with the shriveled hand, "Stand up in front of everyone."4 Then Jesus asked them, "Which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?" But they remained silent.5 He looked around at them in anger and, deeply distressed at their stubborn hearts, said to the man, "Stretch out your hand." He stretched it out, and his hand was completely restored.6 Then the Pharisees went out and began to plot with the Herodians how they might kill Jesus.7 Jesus withdrew with his disciples to the lake, and a large crowd from Galilee followed.8 When they heard about all he was doing, many people came to him from Judea, Jerusalem, Idumea, and the regions across the Jordan and around Tyre and Sidon.9 Because of the crowd he told his disciples to have a small boat ready for him, to keep the people from crowding him.10 For he had healed many, so that those with diseases were pushing forward to touch him.11 Whenever the impure spirits saw him, they fell down before him and cried out, "You are the Son of God."12 But he gave them strict orders not to tell others about him.13 Jesus went up on a mountainside and called to him those he wanted, and they came to him.14 He appointed twelve "that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach15 and to have authority to drive out demons.16 These are the twelve he appointed: Simon (to whom he gave the name Peter),17 James son of Zebedee and his brother John (to them he gave the name Boanerges, which means "sons of thunder"),18 Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Simon the Zealot19 and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.20 Then Jesus entered a house, and again a crowd gathered, so that he and his disciples were not even able to eat.21 When his family "heard about this, they went to take charge of him, for they said, "He is out of his mind."22 And the teachers of the law who came down from Jerusalem said, "He is possessed by Beelzebul! By the prince of demons he is driving out demons."23 So Jesus called them over to him and began to speak to them in parables: "How can Satan drive out Satan?24 If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.25 If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand.26 And if Satan opposes himself and is divided, he cannot stand; his end has come.27 In fact, no one can enter a strong man's house without first tying him up. Then he can plunder the strong man's house.28 Truly I tell you, people can be forgiven all their sins and every slander they utter,29 but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; they are guilty of an eternal sin."30 He said this because they were saying, "He has an impure spirit."31 Then Jesus' mother and brothers arrived. Standing outside, they sent someone in to call him.32 A crowd was sitting around him, and they told him, "Your mother and brothers are outside looking for you."33 "Who are my mother and my brothers?" he asked.34 Then he looked at those seated in a circle around him and said, "Here are my mother and my brothers!35 Whoever does God's will is my brother and sister and mother."

1 Lần khác, Đức Chúa Jêsus vào nhà hội, ở đó có một người nam teo bàn tay.2 Chúng rình xem thử Ngài có chữa người đó trong ngày Sa-bát chăng, đặng cáo Ngài.3 Ngài phán cùng người teo tay rằng: hãy dậy, đứng chính giữa đây.4 rồi Ngài hỏi họ rằng: trong ngày Sa-bát, nên làm việc lành hay việc dữ, cứu người hay giết người? Nhưng họ đều nín lặng.5 Bấy giờ, Ngài lấy mắt liếc họ, vừa giận vừa buồn vì lòng họ cứng cỏi, rồi phán cùng người nam rằng: hãy giơ tay ra. Người giơ ra, thì tay được lành.6 Các người Pha-ri-si đi ra, tức thì bàn luận với phe Hê-rốt nghịch cùng Ngài, đặng giết Ngài đi.7 Đức Chúa Jêsus cùng môn đồ Ngài lánh ra nơi bờ biển, có đoàn dân đông lắm từ xứ Ga-li-lê đến theo Ngài. Từ xứ Giu-đê,8 thành Giê-ru-sa-lem, xứ Y-đu-mê, xứ bên kia sông Giô-đanh, miền xung quanh thành Ty-rơ và thành Si-đôn cũng vậy, dân đông lắm, nghe nói mọi việc Ngài làm, thì đều đến cùng Ngài.9 Bởi cớ dân đông, nên Ngài biểu môn đồ sắm cho mình một chiếc thuyền nhỏ sẵn sàng, đặng cho khỏi bị chúng lấn ép Ngài quá.10 Vì Ngài đã chữa lành nhiều kẻ bịnh, nên nỗi ai nấy có bịnh chi cũng đều áp đến gần để rờ Ngài.11 Khi tà ma thấy Ngài, bèn sấp mình xuống nơi chơn Ngài mà kêu lên rằng: Thầy là Con Đức Chúa Trời!12 Song Ngài nghiêm cấm chúng nó chớ tỏ cho ai biết mình.13 Kế đó, Đức Chúa Jêsus lên trên núi, đòi những người Ngài muốn, thì những người ấy đến kề Ngài.14 Ngài bèn lập mười hai người, gọi là sứ đồ, để ở cùng Ngài và sai đi giảng đạo,15 lại ban cho quyền phép đuổi quỉ.16 Nầy là mười hai sứ đồ Ngài đã lập: Si-môn, Ngài đặt tên là Phi -e-rơ;17 Gia-cơ con Xê-bê-đê, và Giăng em Gia-cơ, Ngài đặt tên hai người là Bô -a-nẹt, nghĩa là con trai của sấm sét;18 Anh-rê, Phi-líp, Ba-thê-lê-my, Ma-thi -ơ, Thô-ma, Gia-cơ con A-phê, Tha-đê, Si-môn là người Ca-na-an,19 và Giu-đa Ích-ca-ri-ốt, chính tên nầy đã phản Ngài.20 Đức Chúa Jêsus cùng môn đồ vào trong một cái nhà; đoàn dân lại nhóm họp tại đó, đến nỗi Ngài và môn đồ không ăn được.21 Những bạn hữu Ngài nghe vậy, bèn đến để cầm giữ Ngài; vì người ta nói Ngài đã mất trí khôn.22 Có các thầy thông giáo ở thành Giê-ru-sa-lem xuống, nói rằng: Người bị quỉ Bê-ên-xê-bun ám, và nhờ phép chúa quỉ mà trừ quỉ.23 Song Đức Chúa Jêsus kêu họ đến, dùng lời thí dụ mà phán rằng: Sao quỉ Sa-tan đuổi được quỉ Sa-tan?24 Nếu một nước tự chia nhau, thì nước ấy không thể còn được;25 lại nếu một nhà tự chia nhau, thì nhà ấy không thể còn được.26 Vậy, nếu quỉ Sa-tan tự dấy lên nghịch cùng mình, tất nó bị chia xẻ ra, không thể còn được; song nó đã gần đến cùng rồi.27 Chẳng ai có thể vào nhà một người mạnh sức cướp lấy của người, mà trước hết không trói người lại; phải trói người lại, rồi mới cướp nhà người được.28 Quả thật, ta nói cùng các ngươi, mọi tội lỗi sẽ tha cho con cái loài người, và hết thảy những lời phạm thượng họ sẽ nói ra cũng vậy;29 nhưng ai sẽ nói phạm đến Đức Thánh Linh thì chẳng hề được tha, phải mắc tội đời đời.30 Ngài phán như vậy, vì họ nói rằng: Người bị tà ma ám.31 Mẹ và anh em Ngài đến, đứng ngoài sai kêu Ngài. Đoàn dân vẫn ngồi chung quanh Ngài.32 Có kẻ thưa rằng: Nầy, mẹ và anh em thầy ở ngoài kia đương tìm thầy.33 Song Ngài phán cùng họ rằng: Ai là mẹ ta, ai là anh em ta?34 Ngài đưa mắt liếc những kẻ ngồi chung quanh mình mà phán rằng: Kìa là mẹ ta và anh em ta!35 Ai làm theo ý muốn Đức Chúa Trời, nấy là anh em, chị em, và mẹ ta vậy.
