17 Everyone will hate you because of me.
18 But not a hair of your head will perish.
19 Stand firm, and you will win life.
17 A horse is a vain hope for deliverance; despite all its great strength it cannot save.
18 But the eyes of the LORD are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love,
19 to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine.
and receive from him anything we ask, because we keep his commands and do what pleases him.
"Here I will make a horn "grow for David and set up a lamp for my anointed one.
I will clothe his enemies with shame, but his head will be adorned with a radiant crown."
The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but victory rests with the LORD.
The LORD will vindicate me; your love, LORD, endures forever — do not abandon the works of your hands.
If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the good things of the land;
but if you resist and rebel, you will be devoured by the sword." For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.
Righteousness guards the person of integrity, but wickedness overthrows the sinner.
Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.
But you, LORD, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high.
"'Follow my decrees and be careful to obey my laws, and you will live safely in the land.
The LORD is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.
Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.
For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.

It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in humans.
"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.
For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.
You open your hand and satisfy the desires of every living thing.
So we say with confidence, "The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?" [^2]
Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes.
I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power of "your name, the name you gave me, so that they may be one as we are one.
While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by "that name you gave me. None has been lost except the one doomed to destruction so that Scripture would be fulfilled.
Keep me safe, my God, for in you I take refuge.
But let all who take refuge in you be glad; let them ever sing for joy. Spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may rejoice in you.
Surely, LORD, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield.

The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still."
But the king will rejoice in God; all who swear by God will glory in him, while the mouths of liars will be silenced.
Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.

The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms. He will drive out your enemies before you, saying, 'Destroy them!'
The LORD is my light and my salvation — whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life — of whom shall I be afraid?
6 For the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
7 He holds success in store for the upright, he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless,
8 for he guards the course of the just and protects the way of his faithful ones.
7 For the king trusts in the LORD; through the unfailing love of the Most High he will not be shaken.
8 Your hand will lay hold on all your enemies; your right hand will seize your foes.
9 At the time of your appearing you will make them like a fiery furnace. In his wrath the LORD will swallow them up, and his fire will consume them.
God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.
As for God, his way is perfect: The LORD's word is flawless; he shields all who take refuge in him.
The righteous eat to their hearts' content, but the stomach of the wicked goes hungry.
Sing to God, sing in praise of his name, extol him who rides on the clouds "; rejoice before him —his name is the LORD.
A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling.
1 I lift up my eyes to the mountains — where does my help come from?
2 My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.
3 He will not let your foot slip — he who watches over you will not slumber;
4 indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The LORD watches over you — the LORD is your shade at your right hand;
6 the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.
7 The LORD will keep you from all harm — he will watch over your life;
8 the LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.
The LORD will rescue his servants; no one who takes refuge in him will be condemned.
"Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.
no weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and this is their vindication from me," declares the LORD.
Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes.
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
I keep my eyes always on the LORD. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
Now be pleased to bless the house of your servant, that it may continue forever in your sight; for you, Sovereign LORD, have spoken, and with your blessing the house of your servant will be blessed forever."
Like birds hovering overhead, the LORD Almighty will shield Jerusalem; he will shield it and deliver it, he will 'pass over' it and will rescue it."
Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. "Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow.
For who is God besides the LORD? And who is the Rock except our God?
The LORD is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him,

May the LORD answer you when you are in distress; may the name of the God of Jacob protect you.
May he send you help from the sanctuary and grant you support from Zion.

31 So don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.
Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you."
I am the LORD your God, who brought you up out of Egypt. Open wide your mouth and I will fill it.
If you say, "The LORD is my refuge," and you make the Most High your dwelling,
no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent.
Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
