The Government of the Promised Son
1 Nevertheless Is. 8:22the gloom will not be upon her who is distressed,
As when at 2 Kin. 15:29; 2 Chr. 16:4first He lightly esteemed
The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali,
And Matt. 4:13–16afterward more heavily oppressed her,
By the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan,
In Galilee of the Gentiles.
2 Matt. 4:16; Luke 1:79; 2 Cor. 4:6; Eph. 5:8The people who walked in darkness
Have seen a great light;
Those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death,
Upon them a light has shined.
3 You have multiplied the nation
And increased its joy;
They rejoice before You
According to the joy of harvest,
As men rejoice Judg. 5:30when they divide the spoil.
4 For You have broken the yoke of his burden
And the staff of his shoulder,
The rod of his oppressor,
As in the day of Judg. 7:22Midian.
5 For every warrior’s sandal from the noisy battle,
And garments rolled in blood,
Is. 66:15Will be used for burning and fuel of fire.
6 (Is. 7:14; Luke 2:11); John 1:45For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Luke 2:7; (John 3:16; 1 John 4:9)Son is given;
And (Matt. 28:18; 1 Cor. 15:25); Rev. 12:5the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Judg. 13:18Wonderful, Counselor, Titus 2:13Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Eph. 2:14Prince of Peace.
