1. KJV King James Version

6 He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. 7 Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. 8 For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.

2. NIV New International Version

6 He replied, "Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written:

" ‘These people honor me with their lips,

but their hearts are far from me.

   7 They worship me in vain;

their teachings are merely human rules.’* 7:7 Isaiah 29:13

8 You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to human traditions."

4. NLT New Living Translation

6 Jesus replied, "You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you, for he wrote,

‘These people honor me with their lips,

but their hearts are far from me.

7 Their worship is a farce,

for they teach man-made ideas as commands from God.’* 7:7 Isa 29:13 (Greek version).

8 For you ignore God’s law and substitute your own tradition."

5. NASB New American Standard Bible 2020

‘This people honors Me with their lips,

But their heart is far away from Me.

7 ‘And in vain do they worship Me,

Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’

8 Neglecting the commandment of God, you hold to the tradition of men."

6 But he answering, said to them: Well did Isaias prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written: This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. 7 And in vain to they worship me, teaching doctrines and precepts of men. 8 For leaving the commandment of God, you hold the tradition of men, the washing of pots and of cups: and many other things you do like to these.

8. MSG The Message

6-8 Jesus answered, "Isaiah was right about frauds like you, hit the bull’s-eye in fact:

These people make a big show of saying the right thing,

but their heart isn’t in it.

They act like they are worshiping me,

   but they don’t mean it.

They just use me as a cover

for teaching whatever suits their fancy,

   Ditching God’s command

and taking up the latest fads."
