19 "All right," Jesus replied. "Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up."
20 "What!" they exclaimed. "It has taken forty-six years to build this Temple, and you can rebuild it in three days?" 21 But when Jesus said "this temple," he meant his own body.
19 Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. 20 Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days? 21 But he spake of the temple of his body.
19 Jesus answered them, "Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days."
20 They replied, "It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and you are going to raise it in three days?" 21 But the temple he had spoken of was his body.
19 Jesus answered them, [Matt. 26:61;27:40;Mark 14:58;15:29] "Destroy this temple, and in three days ch. 10:18I will raise it up."20 The Jews then said, "It has taken forty-six years to build this temple,2:20 Or This temple was built forty-six years ago and will you raise it up in three days?" 21 But he was speaking about [ch. 1:14;1 Cor. 6:19;Col. 2:9]the temple of his body.
19 Jesus answered and said to them, Matt. 26:61; 27:40; (Mark 14:58; 15:29); Luke 24:46; Acts 6:14; 10:40; 1 Cor. 15:4"Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up."
20 Then the Jews said, "It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and will You raise it up in three days?"
21 But He was speaking (1 Cor. 3:16; 6:19; 2 Cor. 6:16; Col. 2:9; Heb. 8:2)of the temple of His body.
19 Jesus answered them, "Destroy this 2:19 Or sanctuarytemple, and in three days I will raise it up."20 The Jews then said, "It took forty-six years to build this 2:20 Or sanctuarytemple, and yet You will raise it up in three days?" 21 But He was speaking about the 2:21 Or sanctuarytemple of His body.
19 Jesus answered, "Destroy this temple, 2:19 Or sanctuary, also in vv. 20,21, 2:19 Lk 1:21and I will raise it up in three days." 2:19 Lk 9:22
20 Therefore the Jews said, "This temple took forty-six years to build, 2:20 Or was built forty-six years ago and will you raise it up in three days? " 2:20 Mk 15:29
21 But he was speaking about the temple of his body. 2:21 Mt 26:26; 27:52,58; Mk 14:22; 15:43; Lk 12:4; 22:19; 23:52,55; Jn 19:31,38,40; 20:12; 1Co 10:16; 11:23–26; Heb 10:5,10; 1Pt 2:24
19 Jesus answered, and said to them: Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. 20 The Jews then said: Six and forty years was this temple in building; and wilt thou raise it up in three days? 21 But he spoke of the temple of his body.
18,19 But the Jews were upset. They asked, "What credentials can you present to justify this?" Jesus answered, "Tear down this Temple and in three days I’ll put it back together."
20-22 They were indignant: "It took forty-six years to build this Temple, and you’re going to rebuild it in three days?" But Jesus was talking about his body as the Temple. Later, after he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered he had said this. They then put two and two together and believed both what was written in Scripture and what Jesus had said.
