Exodus 17:9,11-13,15

NMV New Messianic Version Bible

9 And Moshe [He Who Draws Out Of The Waters] said unto Y’hoshua [Yehovah is Salvation], Choose us out men, and go out, fight with ‘Amalek [Dweller in a Valley]: tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God-Elōhīm (The Living Word) [The Many Powered] in my hand.

11 And it came to pass, when Moshe [He Who Draws Out Of The Waters] held up his hand, that Yisra’el [He Holds Onto The Heel Of God] prevailed: and when he let down his hand, ‘Amalek [Dweller in a Valley] prevailed.

12 But Moshe [He Who Draws Out Of The Waters]’ hands [were] heavy; and they took a stone, and put [it] under him, and he sat thereon; and Aharon [Bright, Very High] and Hur [Liberty] detained (held) up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.

13 And Y’hoshua [Yehovah is Salvation] scattered (defeated in battle) ‘Amalek [Dweller in a Valley] and his people with the edge of the sword.

15 And Moshe [He Who Draws Out Of The Waters] built an altar, and called the name of it Yehovah-Nissi [God is My Banner/Miracle]:

9 Moses said to Joshua, "Choose some of our men and go out to fight the Amalekites. Tomorrow I will stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hands."

  4. NLT New Living Translation

9 Moses commanded Joshua, "Choose some men to go out and fight the army of Amalek for us. Tomorrow, I will stand at the top of the hill, holding the staff of God in my hand."

11 As long as Moses held up the staff in his hand, the Israelites had the advantage. But whenever he dropped his hand, the Amalekites gained the advantage. 12 Moses’ arms soon became so tired he could no longer hold them up. So Aaron and Hur found a stone for him to sit on. Then they stood on each side of Moses, holding up his hands. So his hands held steady until sunset. 13 As a result, Joshua overwhelmed the army of Amalek in battle.

15 Moses built an altar there and named it Yahweh-Nissi (which means "the Lord is my banner").
