Jonah 4:1-4,10,11

NMV New Messianic Version Bible

1 But it displeased Yonah [dove] exceedingly, and he was very angry.

2 And he prayed unto the LORD-Yehōvah (Messiah Pre-Incarnate), and said, I pray youi, O LORD-Yehōvah (Messiah Pre-Incarnate), [was] not this my saying, when I was yet in my country? Therefore I fled before unto Tarshish [yellow jasper]: for I knew that youi [are] a gracious God-Elōhīm (The Living Word) [The Many Powered], and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repent youi of the evil.

3 Therefore now, O LORD-Yehōvah (Messiah Pre-Incarnate), take, I beseech (to call upon; appeal; beg) youi, my life from me; for [it is] better for me to die than to live.

4 Then said the LORD-Yehōvah (Messiah Pre-Incarnate), Do youi well to be angry?

10 Then said the LORD-Yehōvah (Messiah Pre-Incarnate), youi have had pity on the gourd, for the which youi have not laboured, neither made it grow; which came up in a night, and perished in a night:

11 And should not I spare Nineveh [abode of Ninus, or Offspring’s Habitation], that great city, wherein are more than sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and [also] much cattle?

  2. NIV New International Version

1 But to Jonah this seemed very wrong, and he became angry. 2 He prayed to the Lord, "Isn’t this what I said, Lord, when I was still at home? That is what I tried to forestall by fleeing to Tarshish. I knew that you are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abounding in love, a God who relents from sending calamity. 3 Now, Lord, take away my life, for it is better for me to die than to live."

4 But the Lord replied, "Is it right for you to be angry?"

10 But the Lord said, "You have been concerned about this plant, though you did not tend it or make it grow. It sprang up overnight and died overnight. 11 And should I not have concern for the great city of Nineveh, in which there are more than a hundred and twenty thousand people who cannot tell their right hand from their left—and also many animals?"

1 This change of plans greatly upset Jonah, and he became very angry. 2 So he complained to the Lord about it: "Didn’t I say before I left home that you would do this, Lord? That is why I ran away to Tarshish! I knew that you are a merciful and compassionate God, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. You are eager to turn back from destroying people. 3 Just kill me now, Lord! I’d rather be dead than alive if what I predicted will not happen."

4 The Lord replied, "Is it right for you to be angry about this?"

10 Then the Lord said, "You feel sorry about the plant, though you did nothing to put it there. It came quickly and died quickly. 11 But Nineveh has more than 120,000 people living in spiritual darkness,4:11 Hebrew people who don’t know their right hand from their left. not to mention all the animals. Shouldn’t I feel sorry for such a great city?"

1 And Jonas was exceedingly troubled, and was angry: 2 And he prayed to the Lord, and said: I beseech thee, O Lord, is not this what I said, when I was yet in my own country? therefore I went before to flee into Tharsis: for I know that thou art a gracious and merciful God, patient, and of much compassion, and easy to forgive evil. 3 And now, O Lord, I beseech thee take my life from me: for it is better for me to die than to live. 4 And the Lord said: Dost thou think thou hast reason to be angry? 10 And the Lord said: Thou art grieved for the ivy, for which thou hast not laboured, nor made it to grow, which in one night came up, and in one night perished. 11 And shall not I spare Ninive, that great city, in which there are more than a hundred and twenty thousand persons that know not how to distinguish between their right hand and their left, and many beasts?
