1 Depois da epidemia, o Senhor disse a Moisés e a Eleazar, filho do sacerdote Arão, o seguinte:

2 — Façam a contagem de todos os homens israelitas de vinte anos para cima, família por família, isto é, todos os que já têm idade para o serviço militar.

3,4 Moisés e Eleazar obedeceram e reuniram todos os homens com idade para prestar serviço militar. Eles se reuniram nas planícies de Moabe, na beira do rio Jordão, na altura de Jericó, que ficava no outro lado do rio.

São estes os israelitas que saíram do Egito:

5 A tribo de Rúben (Rúben era o filho mais velho de Jacó): os grupos de famílias de Enoque, Palu, 6 Hezrom e Carmi. 7 Desses grupos de famílias foram contados quarenta e três mil setecentos e trinta homens. 8 Os descendentes de Palu eram Eliabe 9 e os seus filhos Nemuel, Datã e Abirão (Datã e Abirão foram escolhidos pelo povo. Eles se revoltaram contra Moisés e Arão e se juntaram com os seguidores de Corá, na revolta contra Deus, o Senhor. 10 A terra se abriu e os engoliu, e eles morreram com Corá e os seus seguidores. O fogo matou duzentos e cinquenta homens, e isso serviu como um aviso para o povo. 11 Mas os filhos de Corá não foram mortos.).

12 A tribo de Simeão: os grupos de famílias de Nemuel, Jamim, Jaquim, 13 Zera e Saul. 14 Desses grupos de famílias foram contados vinte e dois mil e duzentos homens.

15 A tribo de Gade: os grupos de famílias de Zefom, Hagui, Suni, 16 Ozni, Eri, 17 Arode e Areli. 18 Desses grupos de famílias foram contados quarenta mil e quinhentos homens.

19-21 A tribo de Judá: os grupos de famílias de Selá, Peres, Zera, Hezrom e Hamul (Dois filhos de Judá, isto é, Er e Onã, haviam morrido em Canaã.). 22 Desses grupos de famílias foram contados setenta e seis mil e quinhentos homens.

23 A tribo de Issacar: os grupos de famílias de Tolá, Puva, 24 Jasube e Sinrom. 25 Desses grupos de famílias foram contados sessenta e quatro mil e trezentos homens.

26 A tribo de Zebulom: os grupos de famílias de Serede, Elom e Jaleel. 27 Desses grupos de famílias foram contados sessenta mil e quinhentos homens.

28 As tribos de Manassés e Efraim, que eram filhos de José.

29 A tribo de Manassés: Maquir, filho de Manassés, era pai de Gileade, e os seguintes grupos de famílias são descendentes de Gileade: 30 os grupos de famílias de Iezer, Heleque, 31 Asriel, Siquém, 32 Semida e Héfer. 33 Zelofeade, filho de Héfer, não tinha filhos; somente filhas. Os nomes das filhas de Zelofeade eram: Macla, Noa, Hogla, Milca e Tirza. 34 Desses grupos de famílias foram contados cinquenta e dois mil e setecentos homens.

35 A tribo de Efraim: os grupos de famílias de Sutela, Bequer e Taã. 36 O grupo de famílias de Erã descendia de Sutela. 37 Desses grupos de famílias foram contados trinta e dois mil e quinhentos homens. São esses os grupos de famílias descendentes de José.

38 A tribo de Benjamim: os grupos de famílias de Belá, Asbel, Airão, 39 Sufã e Hufã. 40 Os grupos de famílias de Arde e Naamã eram descendentes de Belá. 41 Desses grupos de famílias foram contados quarenta e cinco mil e seiscentos homens.

42 A tribo de Dã: o grupo de famílias de Suão, 43 que tinha sessenta e quatro mil e quatrocentos homens.

44 A tribo de Aser: os grupos de famílias de Imna, Isvi e Berias. 45 Os grupos de famílias de Héber e Malquiel são descendentes de Berias. 46 A filha de Aser se chamava Sera. 47 Desses grupos de famílias foram contados cinquenta e três mil e quatrocentos homens.

48 A tribo de Naftali: os grupos de famílias de Jazeel, Guni, 49 Jezer e Silém. 50 Desses grupos de famílias foram contados quarenta e cinco mil e quatrocentos homens.

51 O número total dos homens israelitas era de seiscentos e um mil setecentos e trinta homens.

52 O Senhor Deus disse a Moisés:

53 — Divida a terra entre as tribos, conforme o tamanho delas. 54-56 Divida por sorteio e dê as partes maiores para as tribos maiores; e as partes menores, para as tribos menores.

57 A tribo de Levi era formada pelos grupos de famílias de Gérson, Coate e Merari. 58 Os grupos de famílias de Libni, Hebrom, Mali, Musi e Corá eram descendentes de Levi. Coate era o pai de Anrão. 59 A mulher de Anrão era Joquebede, filha de Levi; ela havia nascido no Egito. Joquebede deu a Anrão dois filhos: Arão e Moisés, e uma filha, chamada Míriam. 60 Arão tinha quatro filhos: Nadabe, Abiú, Eleazar e Itamar. 61 Porém Nadabe e Abiú morreram quando ofereceram a Deus, o Senhor, fogo que não era sagrado. 62 Foram contados vinte e três mil levitas do sexo masculino, de um mês de idade para cima. Eles foram contados separadamente dos outros israelitas porque não receberam nenhuma propriedade em Israel.

63 São esses os que foram contados por Moisés e pelo sacerdote Eleazar, que fizeram a contagem dos israelitas nas planícies de Moabe, na beira do rio Jordão, na altura de Jericó, que ficava no outro lado do rio. 64 Entre esses da segunda contagem não havia nenhum dos que tinham sido contados por Moisés e pelo sacerdote Arão, quando fizeram a primeira contagem dos israelitas no deserto do Sinai. 65 O Senhor Deus tinha dito que todos eles certamente morreriam no deserto; e todos morreram, menos Calebe, filho de Jefoné, e Josué, filho de Num.

These are the sons of Joseph by their families.38 The sons of Benjamin by their families: of Bela, the family of the Belaites: of Ashbel, the family of the Ashbelites: of Ahiram, the family of the Ahiramites:39 Of Shephupham, the family of the Shuphamites: and of Hupham, the family of the Huphamites.40 And the sons of Bela were Ard and Naaman: of Ard, the family of the Ardites: of Naaman, the family of the Naamites.41 These are the sons of Benjamin by their families: and those who were numbered of them were forty-five thousand, six hundred.42 These are the sons of Dan by their families: of Shuham, the family of the Shuhamites. These are the families of Dan by their families.43 All the families of the Shuhamites, as they were numbered, were sixty-four thousand, four hundred.44 The sons of Asher by their families: of Imnah, the family of the Imnites: of Ishvi, the family of the Ishvites: of Beriah, the family of the Beriites.45 Of the sons of Beriah: of Heber, the family of the Heberites: of Malchiel, the family of the Malchielites:46 And the name of the daughter of Asher was Serah.47 These are the families of the sons of Asher as they were numbered, fifty-three thousand, four hundred.48 The sons of Naphtali by their families: of Jahzeel, the family of the Jahzeelites: of Guni, the family of the Gunites:49 Of Jezer, the family of the Jezerites: of Shillem, the family of the Shillemites.50 These are the families of Naphtali by their families: and those who were numbered of them were forty-five thousand, four hundred.51 Those who were numbered of the children of Israel were six hundred and one thousand, seven hundred and thirty.52 And the Lord said to Moses,53 Let there be a division of the land among these, for their heritage, in relation to the number of names.54 To those families who are more in number, give a greater heritage; to those who are less in number, a smaller part: to every one let the heritage be given in relation to the number in his family.55 But let the distribution of the land be made by the decision of the Lord: by the names of the tribes of their fathers let their heritage be given them.56 As it is ordered by the decision of the Lord, let distribution be made between those who are more in number and those who are less.57 These were those of the Levites who were numbered by their families: of Gershon, the family of the Gershonites: of Kohath, the family of the Kohathites: of Merari, the family of the Merarites.58 These are the families of Levi: the family of the Libnites, the family of the Hebronites, the family of the Mahlites, the family of the Mushites, the family of the Korahites. And Kohath was the father of Amram.59 Amram's wife was Jochebed, the daughter of Levi, whom he had in Egypt: by Amram she had Moses and Aaron and their sister Miriam.60 Aaron's sons were Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.61 Death overtook Nadab and Abihu when they made an offering of strange fire before the Lord.62 Of these, twenty-three thousand males, from one month old and over, were numbered: they were not numbered with the rest of the children of Israel, for they had no heritage among the children of Israel.63 All these were numbered by Moses and Eleazar the priest when the children of Israel were numbered in the lowlands of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho.64 But among all these was not one of those numbered by Moses and Aaron the priest when the children of Israel were numbered in the waste land of Sinai.65 For the Lord had said of them, Death will certainly overtake them in the waste land.
