1 Naquele dia, o Senhor pegará a espada,

a sua espada enorme, forte e pesada,

e ferirá o monstro Leviatã,

a serpente que se torce e se enrola;

o Senhor matará o monstro que vive no mar.

2 Naquele dia, o Senhor dirá:

"Cantem louvores à minha bela plantação de uvas !

3 Eu cuido dela e sempre a rego;

eu a vigio de dia e de noite

para que ninguém a estrague.

4 Não estou mais irado com ela;

se os espinheiros e o mato a ameaçarem,

eu os atacarei e destruirei com fogo.

5 Se os inimigos do meu povo querem a minha proteção,

então que façam as pazes comigo,

sim, que façam as pazes comigo."

6 Chegará o dia em que o povo de Israel,

como uma árvore viçosa,

criará raízes, brotará, e florescerá,

e dará frutas que encherão o mundo inteiro.

7 O Senhor não castigou os israelitas tão duramente

como castigou os inimigos deles;

os israelitas que Deus matou foram poucos,

mas os assassinos deles que ele matou foram muitos.

8 Ele castigou o seu povo,

enviando-os como prisioneiros para outro país.

Ele os expulsou com o seu sopro forte,

tão forte como o vento leste.

9 Mas os pecados do povo serão perdoados,

e a sua culpa será tirada.

Isso acontecerá quando o povo destruir os altares pagãos

e fizer as suas pedras virarem pó,

como se fossem pedras de cal,

e quando destruir todos os postes da deusa Aserá e os altares de incenso.

10 A cidade protegida por muralhas está vazia;

ninguém mais mora ali,

e ela parece um deserto.

Virou pasto para o gado,

onde os animais pastam e descansam.

11 Os galhos das árvores estão secos e quebrados;

as mulheres os apanham para fazer fogo.

Esse povo não entende nada,

e por isso Deus, o seu Criador,

não terá dó nem piedade deles.

12 Naquele dia, o Senhor Deus vai tirar o seu povo do meio de todos os outros povos, desde o rio Eufrates até a fronteira do Egito. Como o trigo é malhado e os grãos são separados da palha, assim os israelitas serão todos separados e ajuntados um por um.

13 Naquele dia, uma grande trombeta será tocada, e os israelitas que estavam perdidos na Assíria e os que tinham sido levados como prisioneiros para o Egito voltarão para a sua terra e adorarão a Deus, o Senhor, no monte sagrado de Jerusalém.

1 In that day the LORD with his sore and great and strong sword shall punish leviathan the swift serpent, and leviathan the crooked serpent; and he shall slay the dragon that is in the sea. 2 In that day: A vineyard of wine, sing ye unto it. 3 I the LORD do keep it; I will water it every moment: lest any hurt it, I will keep it night and day. 4 Fury is not in me: would that the briers and thorns were against me in battle! I would march upon them, I would burn them together. 5 Or else let him take hold of my strength, that he may make peace with me; yea, let him make peace with me. 6 In days to come shall Jacob take root; Israel shall blossom and bud: and they shall fill the face of the world with fruit. 7 Hath he smitten him as he smote those that smote him? or is he slain according to the slaughter of them that were slain by him? 8 In measure, when thou sendest her away, thou dost contend with her; he hath removed her with his rough blast in the day of the east wind. 9 Therefore by this shall the iniquity of Jacob be purged, and this is all the fruit of taking away his sin; when he maketh all the stones of the altar as chalkstones that are beaten in sunder, so that the Asherim and the sun-images shall rise no more. 10 For the defenced city is solitary, an habitation deserted and forsaken, like the wilderness: there shall the calf feed, and there shall he lie down, and consume the branches thereof. 11 When the boughs thereof are withered, they shall be broken off; the women shall come, and set them on fire: for it is a people of no understanding; therefore he that made them will not have compassion upon them, and he that formed them will shew them no favour. 12 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall beat off his fruit, from the flood of the River unto the brook of Egypt, and ye shall be gathered one by one, O ye children of Israel. 13 And it shall come to pass in that day, that a great trumpet shall be blown; and they shall come which were ready to perish in the land of Assyria, and they that were outcasts in the land of Egypt; and they shall worship the LORD in the holy mountain at Jerusalem.
