1 Esta é a mensagem que o Senhor Deus deu a Obadias a respeito do país de Edom.

O Senhor mandou um mensageiro a todas as nações,

e nós ouvimos a sua mensagem:

"Preparem-se! Vamos lutar contra Edom!"

2 O Senhor diz a Edom:

"Eu vou fazer de você uma nação fraca,

e ninguém o respeitará.

3 O seu orgulho o enganou.

Você vive nas cavernas das rochas,

lá no alto das montanhas,

e por isso pensa assim:

‘Ninguém é capaz de me derrubar daqui.’

4 Ainda que você voe tão alto como a águia

e faça o seu ninho entre as estrelas,

eu o derrubarei dali.

5 "Quando ladrões chegam de noite,

levam apenas o que lhes interessa.

Quando alguém colhe uvas,

sempre deixa algumas nas parreiras.

Mas os seus inimigos destruíram você completamente!

6 Povo de Edom, todos os seus bens foram roubados;

levaram embora todos os seus tesouros.

7 Os seus aliados o traíram

e o expulsaram do seu próprio país.

Povos com quem você tinha acordos de paz conquistaram a sua terra.

Os seus amigos mais chegados fizeram planos contra você.

Eles dizem: ‘Os edomitas são uns tolos!’ "

8 O Senhor Deus diz:

"No dia em que eu castigar Edom,

acabarei com todos os seus sábios;

não ficará uma só pessoa inteligente no país.

9 Os soldados de Temã tremerão de medo;

todos os guerreiros de Edom serão mortos."

10 O Senhor diz ao povo de Edom:

"Vocês maltrataram e mataram os seus irmãos ,

os descendentes de Jacó.

Por isso, vocês serão destruídos,

e a desgraça os acompanhará para sempre.

11 Quando o inimigo derrubou os portões de Jerusalém,

entrou na cidade e tirou todas as coisas de valor,

vocês não se importaram com isso.

Quando aqueles estrangeiros tiraram a sorte

para ver quem ficava com as riquezas,

vocês fizeram a mesma coisa.

12 "Mas vocês não deviam ter ficado alegres

com a desgraça dos seus irmãos de Judá;

não deviam ter olhado com prazer

quando eles foram destruídos;

não deviam ter zombado deles

quando eles estavam aflitos.

13 Quando o meu povo foi derrotado,

vocês não deviam ter entrado em Jerusalém,

nem deviam ter ficado alegres com a desgraça deles.

Quando eles sofreram a derrota,

vocês não deviam ter roubado os seus bens;

14 não deviam ter esperado nas encruzilhadas

para matar os que procuravam fugir,

nem deviam ter entregado ao inimigo os que escaparam com vida."

15 O Senhor Deus diz:

"Está chegando o dia em que eu vou julgar todas as nações.

Aí vocês, edomitas, pagarão pelas suas maldades;

aquilo que vocês fizeram com outros

será feito com vocês.

16 O meu povo já foi duramente castigado no meu monte santo.

Todas as nações vizinhas sofrerão um castigo ainda mais duro;

serão castigadas e desaparecerão."

17 O Senhor diz:

"Mas no monte Sião, o lugar santo, alguns conseguirão escapar.

O povo de Israel possuirá de novo a terra que eu lhe dei.

18 Os povos de Judá e de Israel serão como labaredas de fogo.

Eles destruirão os descendentes de Esaú,

como o fogo devora a palha;

nenhum dos edomitas escapará.

Eu, o Senhor, falei."

19 Os israelitas do sul de Judá conquistarão o país de Edom, e os que moram nas planícies de Judá tomarão posse do território dos filisteus. Os israelitas conquistarão o território de Efraim e de Samaria, e o povo da tribo de Benjamim tomará a região de Gileade. 20 Os que foram levados como prisioneiros para fora do Reino de Israel voltarão e conquistarão a região da Fenícia até a cidade de Sarepta, no Norte; e os que foram levados de Jerusalém e que estão em Sefarade conquistarão a região do sul de Judá. 21 O povo de Deus, vitorioso, subirá o monte Sião e dali governará o povo de Edom. E o Senhor será o Rei.

1 The vision of Obadiah. Thus says the Lord GOD concerning Edom; We have heard a message from the LORD, and an ambassador is sent among the nations, Arise you, and let us rise up against her in battle.2 Behold, I have made you small among the nations: you are greatly despised.3 The pride of your heart has deceived you, you that dwell in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high; that says in his heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground?4 Though you exalt yourself as the eagle, and though you set your nest among the stars, from there will I bring you down, says the LORD.5 If thieves came to you, if robbers by night, (how are you cut off!) would they not have stolen till they had enough? if the grape gatherers came to you, would they not leave some grapes?6 How are the things of Esau searched out! how are his treasures sought out!7 All the men in your confederacy have forced you even to the border: the men that were at peace with you have deceived you, and prevailed against you; they that eat your bread have laid a trap under you: there is no understanding of it.8 Shall I not in that day, says the LORD, even destroy the wise men out of Edom, and understanding out of the mountains of Esau?9 And your mighty men, O Teman, shall be dismayed, to the end that every one of the mountains of Esau may be cut off by slaughter.10 For your violence against your brother Jacob shame shall cover you, and you shall be cut off forever.11 In the day that you stood on the other side, in the day that the strangers carried away captive his forces, and foreigners entered into his gates, and cast lots upon Jerusalem, even you were as one of them.12 But you should not have looked down on the day of your brother in the day that he became a stranger; neither should you have rejoiced over the children of Judah in the day of their destruction; neither should you have spoken proudly in the day of distress.13 You should not have entered into the gate of my people in the day of their calamity; yea, you should not have looked down on their affliction in the day of their calamity, nor have laid hands on their substance in the day of their calamity;14 Neither should you have stood at the crossroads, to cut off those of his that did escape; neither should you have delivered up those of his that did remain in the day of distress.15 For the day of the LORD is near upon all the nations: as you have done, it shall be done unto you: your reward shall return upon your own head.16 For as you have drunk upon my holy mountain, so shall all the nations drink continually, yea, they shall drink, and they shall swallow down, and they shall be as though they had never been.17 But upon mount Zion shall be deliverance, and there shall be holiness; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions.18 And the house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau for stubble, and they shall kindle them, and devour them; and there shall not be any remaining of the house of Esau; for the LORD has spoken it.19 And they of the south shall possess the mountains of Esau; and they of the lowlands the Philistines: and they shall possess the fields of Ephraim, and the fields of Samaria: and Benjamin shall possess Gilead.20 And the captives of this host of the children of Israel shall possess the land of the Canaanites, even unto Zarephath; and the captives of Jerusalem, who are in Sepharad, shall possess the cities of the south.21 And saviors shall come up on mount Zion to judge the mountains of Esau; and the kingdom shall be the LORD'S.
