1 O Senhor Todo-Poderoso diz:

— Sacerdotes, eu estou falando com vocês. 2 Se não obedecerem ao meu mandamento e se não resolverem me honrar, então eu farei cair sobre vocês uma maldição e amaldiçoarei tudo o que vocês recebem pelo trabalho que fazem. Aliás, já os amaldiçoei porque vocês não resolveram me honrar. 3 Vou castigar os seus filhos e esfregar na cara de vocês as fezes dos animais que vocês oferecem em sacrifício. E além disso vocês serão levados para o lugar onde as fezes são jogadas. 4 Assim vocês saberão que eu estou dando esta ordem a fim de que a minha aliança com os sacerdotes, os descendentes de Levi, não seja quebrada. Sou eu, o Senhor Todo-Poderoso, quem está falando.

5 — Na aliança que fiz com eles, eu lhes prometi vida e paz. Fiz o que tinha prometido, para que eles me respeitassem; e, de fato, eles me respeitaram e temeram. 6 Ensinavam sempre o que era direito e nunca o que era errado. Viviam em paz comigo, faziam o que é certo e ajudaram muitos a deixarem o caminho da maldade. 7 Os sacerdotes devem ensinar a verdade a meu respeito, e todos devem pedir conselho a eles para saber o que é direito, pois os sacerdotes são os mensageiros do Senhor Todo-Poderoso.

8 — Mas agora vocês, sacerdotes, estão saindo do caminho certo, e os seus ensinamentos já fizeram muitas pessoas pecarem. Vocês estão quebrando a aliança que fiz com os sacerdotes. 9 Por isso, eu vou fazer com que o povo os despreze e rejeite, pois vocês não me obedecem e, quando julgam causas, não tratam a todos com justiça. Eu, o Senhor Todo-Poderoso, estou falando.

10 Não é verdade que todos temos o mesmo Pai? Não fomos todos criados pelo mesmo Deus? Por que, então, enganamos uns aos outros, desprezando assim a aliança que Deus fez com os nossos antepassados? 11 O povo de Judá tem sido infiel a Deus, e o povo de Israel e os moradores de Jerusalém fizeram coisas nojentas. O povo de Judá profanou o Templo, que o Senhor ama, e os homens casaram com mulheres que adoram ídolos. 12 Que o Senhor expulse do nosso país as pessoas que fazem isso, sejam quem forem, mesmo que apresentem ofertas ao Senhor Todo-Poderoso!

13 Existe outra coisa que vocês fazem: gemem e choram, cobrindo de lágrimas o altar de Deus porque ele já não aceita mais os sacrifícios que vocês oferecem. 14 E cada um de vocês pergunta: "Por quê?" É porque Deus sabe que você tem sido infiel à sua esposa, a mulher com quem casou quando era moço. Ela era sua companheira, mas você quebrou a promessa que fez na presença de Deus de que seria fiel a ela. 15 Não é verdade que Deus criou um único ser, feito de carne e de espírito? E o que é que Deus quer dele? Que tenha filhos que sejam dedicados a Deus. Portanto, tenham cuidado para que nenhum de vocês seja infiel à sua mulher. 16 Pois o Senhor Todo-Poderoso de Israel diz:

— Eu odeio o divórcio; eu odeio o homem que faz uma coisa tão cruel assim. Portanto, tenham cuidado, e que ninguém seja infiel à sua mulher.

17 Vocês falam demais, e o Senhor está cansado de toda essa conversa. Mas vocês ainda perguntam: "Como foi que fizemos com que Deus ficasse cansado?" Foi por dizerem assim: "O Senhor Deus pensa que os que fazem maldades são bons e, de fato, Deus gosta deles." Ou então vocês perguntam: "Onde está o Deus justo?"

1 "Now, you priests, this commandment is for you.2 If you will not listen, and if you will not lay it to heart, to give glory to my name," says the Lord of hosts, "then will I send the curse on you, and I will curse your blessings. Indeed, I have cursed them already, because you do not lay it to heart.3 Behold, I will rebuke your seed, and will spread dung on your faces, even the dung of your feasts; and you will be taken away with it.4 You will know that I have sent this commandment to you, that my covenant may be with Levi," says the Lord of hosts.5 "My covenant was with him of life and peace; and I gave them to him that he might be reverent toward me; and he was reverent toward me, and stood in awe of my name.6 The law of truth was in his mouth, and unrighteousness was not found in his lips. He walked with me in peace and uprightness, and turned many away from iniquity.7 For the priest's lips should keep knowledge, and they should seek the law at his mouth; for he is the messenger of the Lord of hosts.8 But you have turned aside out of the way. You have caused many to stumble in the law. You have corrupted the covenant of Levi," says the Lord of hosts.9 "Therefore I have also made you contemptible and base before all the people, according to the way you have not kept my ways, but have had respect for persons in the law.10 Do we not all have one father? Hasn't one God created us? Why do we deal treacherously every man against his brother, profaning the covenant of our fathers?11 Judah has dealt treacherously, and an abomination is committed in Israel and in Jerusalem; for Judah has profaned the holiness of the Lord which he loves, and has married the daughter of a foreign god.12 The Lord will cut off, to the man who does this, him who wakes and him who answers, out of the tents of Jacob, and him who offers an offering to the Lord of hosts.13 This again you do: you cover the altar of the Lord with tears, with weeping, and with sighing, because he doesn't regard the offering any more, neither receives it with good will at your hand.14 Yet you say, 'Why?' Because the Lord has been witness between you and the wife of your youth, against whom you have dealt treacherously, though she is your companion, and the wife of your covenant.15 Did he not make one, although he had the residue of the Spirit? Why one? He sought a godly seed. Therefore take heed to your spirit, and let none deal treacherously against the wife of his youth.16 For I hate divorce," says the Lord, the God of Israel, "and him who covers his garment with violence!" says the Lord of hosts. "Therefore take heed to your spirit, that you do not deal treacherously.17 You have wearied the Lord with your words. Yet you say, 'How have we wearied him?' In that you say, 'Everyone who does evil is good in the sight of the Lord, and he delights in them;' or 'Where is the God of justice?'
