1 Depois que os dois filhos de Arão foram mortos quando apresentavam a Deus, o Senhor, uma oferta de incenso que não estava de acordo com a lei, o Senhor falou de novo com Moisés. 2 Ele disse:

— Diga ao seu irmão Arão que não é a qualquer hora que ele pode entrar no Lugar Santíssimo, que fica atrás da cortina da Tenda Sagrada. Se ele entrar, morrerá, pois é ali que eu apareço numa nuvem acima da tampa da arca da aliança, que é o lugar onde os pecados são perdoados. 3 Arão só poderá entrar no Lugar Santíssimo depois de ter matado um touro novo como oferta para tirar pecados e um carneiro como oferta que será completamente queimada. 4 Antes de entrar, Arão tomará um banho e vestirá as roupas sacerdotais, todas feitas de linho, isto é, os calções, a túnica e o cinto; e na cabeça ele colocará a mitra, também feita de linho.

5 E Deus deu a Moisés as seguintes leis para o Dia do Perdão:

O povo de Israel entregará a Arão dois bodes para a oferta para tirar pecados e um carneiro para a oferta que será completamente queimada. 6 Arão pegará o touro novo da sua própria oferta para tirar pecados e com ela conseguirá o perdão dos seus próprios pecados e dos da sua família. 7 Depois levará os dois bodes até a entrada da Tenda Sagrada. Ali, na presença de Deus, o Senhor, 8 Arão tirará a sorte entre os dois bodes, usando duas pedras, uma com o nome do Senhor, e a outra com o nome de Azazel . 9 O bode que pertence ao Senhor será morto por Arão como oferta para tirar pecados, 10 e o bode que pertence a Azazel será oferecido vivo ao Senhor. Depois Arão mandará esse bode para o deserto, a fim de conseguir o perdão dos pecados do povo.

11 Arão pegará o touro novo da sua oferta para tirar pecados e com ela conseguirá o perdão dos seus próprios pecados e dos da sua família. Depois de matar o touro, 12 Arão pegará um queimador de incenso cheio de brasas tiradas do altar que está na presença de Deus, o Senhor, e dois punhados de incenso cheiroso bem moído e entrará no Lugar Santíssimo. 13 Ali, na presença do Senhor, ele porá o incenso no fogo para que a fumaça cubra a tampa da arca da aliança. Assim, Arão não morrerá. 14 Ele pegará um pouco do sangue do touro novo e com o dedo borrifará a parte da tampa que dá para o leste; depois borrifará o sangue sete vezes em frente da arca da aliança.

15 Em seguida Arão matará o bode do sacrifício para tirar os pecados do povo, levará o sangue para dentro do Lugar Santíssimo e borrifará com ele a tampa da arca e em frente da arca, como fez com o sangue do touro novo. 16 Assim, Arão purificará o Lugar Santíssimo de todos os pecados, faltas e impurezas do povo de Israel. E fará a mesma coisa para purificar a Tenda Sagrada, que fica no meio do povo impuro. 17 Enquanto Arão estiver no Lugar Santíssimo para fazer a cerimônia de purificação, ninguém deverá entrar na Tenda. Depois que Arão conseguir o perdão dos seus próprios pecados, dos pecados da sua família e dos do povo, 18 então sairá da Tenda, irá até o altar que está em frente dela e fará a cerimônia da purificação do altar. Pegará um pouco do sangue do touro novo e do sangue do bode e o porá nas quatro pontas do altar. 19 Com o dedo borrifará o sangue sete vezes sobre o altar, e assim o purificará das impurezas dos israelitas, e o dedicará ao serviço de Deus.

20 Quando Arão terminar a cerimônia da purificação do Lugar Santíssimo, da Tenda Sagrada e do altar, então pegará o bode para Azazel, 21 porá as mãos na cabeça do animal e confessará todas as culpas e faltas e todos os pecados dos israelitas. Assim, Arão passará para a cabeça do bode os pecados do povo e então mandará o bode para o deserto. Será escolhido um homem para levar o animal, 22 e ele o soltará no deserto. Assim, o bode irá para um lugar onde não mora ninguém, levando os pecados do povo.

23 Em seguida Arão entrará na Tenda, tirará as roupas de sacerdote que havia vestido antes de entrar no Lugar Santíssimo e as deixará ali. 24 Naquele lugar sagrado ele tomará um banho e, depois de se vestir, sairá para apresentar a Deus a sua própria oferta, que será completamente queimada, e a oferta do povo, que também será completamente queimada. Assim, ele conseguirá o perdão dos seus próprios pecados e dos pecados do povo. 25 E queimará no altar a gordura do animal oferecido em sacrifício para tirar pecados.

26 O homem que tiver levado o bode para o deserto deverá lavar a roupa que estiver vestindo e tomar um banho antes de entrar de novo no acampamento.

27 Depois de terminados o sacrifício para tirar os pecados do povo e a cerimônia da purificação do Lugar Santíssimo, feita com o sangue do touro novo e do bode, os corpos desses dois animais serão levados para um lugar fora do acampamento, e o couro, a carne e as tripas serão queimados. 28 O homem que os queimar deverá lavar a roupa que estiver vestindo e tomar um banho antes de entrar de novo no acampamento.

29 A seguinte lei deverá ser obedecida para sempre:

No dia dez do sétimo mês todos os israelitas e os estrangeiros que moram no meio do povo não comerão nada o dia inteiro e não farão nenhum trabalho, 30 pois nesse dia será feito o sacrifício para conseguir o perdão dos pecados do povo. Assim, o povo ficará puro na presença de Deus, o Senhor. 31 Este é um dia especial e será para sempre um dia em que ninguém comerá nada, nem trabalhará. 32 O Grande Sacerdote que for ungido e ordenado para tomar o lugar do pai vestirá as roupas sacerdotais de linho 33 e fará a cerimônia para purificar o Lugar Santíssimo, a Tenda Sagrada, o altar, os sacerdotes e todo o povo. 34 Essa lei será obedecida para sempre, e uma vez por ano haverá a cerimônia para conseguir o perdão dos pecados de todo o povo.

E tudo foi feito como o Senhor havia ordenado a Moisés.

1 And the Lord spak to Moises, aftir the deeth of the twei sones of Aaron, whanne thei offriden alien fier, and weren slayn, and comaundide to hym,2 and seide, Speke thou to Aaron, thi brother, that he entre not in al tyme in to the seyntuarie, which is with ynne the veil bifor the propiciatorie, bi which the arke is hilid, that he die not; for Y schal appere in a cloude on Goddis answeryng place;3 `no but he do these thingis bifore. He schal offer a calf for synne, and a ram in to brent sacrifice;4 he schal be clothid with a lynnun coote, he schal hide the schamefast membris with pryuy lynnun clothis; he schal be gird with a lynnun girdil, he schal putte a lynnun mytre on his heed; for these clothis ben hooli, with whiche alle he schal be clothid, whanne he is waischun.5 And he schal take of al the multitude of the sones of Israel twei kidis for synne, and o ram in to brent sacrifice;6 and whanne he offrith a calf, and preieth for hym,7 and for his hows, he schal make twei `buckis of geet to stonde bifor the Lord, in the dore of the tabernacle of witnessyng;8 and he schal sende `on euer eithir, o lot to the Lord, and another lot to the goot that schal be sent out.9 Whos lot goith out to the Lord, he schal offre it for synne;10 sotheli whos lot goith out in to goot that schal be sent out, he schal sette hym quyk bifor the Lord, that he sende preyers `on hym, and sende hym out in to wildirnesse.11 Whanne these thingis ben doon riytfuli, he schal offre the calf, and `he schal preye for hym silf, and for his hows, and schal offre the calf.12 And whanne he hath take the censeer, which he hath fillid of the coolis of the auter, and `he hath take in hond the `swete smellynge spicery maad into encense, he schal entre ouer the veil in to the hooli thingis;13 that whanne swete smellynge spiceries ben put on the fier, the cloude and `vapour of tho hile Goddis answeryng place, which is on the witnessyng, and he die not.14 Also he schal take of the `blood of the calf, and he schal sprenge seuensithis with the fyngur ayens `the propiciatorie, `to the eest.15 And whanne he hath slayn the `buk of geet, for synne of the puple, he schal brynge in the blood therof with ynne the veil, as it is comaundid of the `blood of the calf, that he sprynge euene ayens Goddis answeryng place,16 and he schal clense the seyntuarie fro vnclennessis of the sones of Israel, and fro her trespassyngis, and alle synnes. Bi this custom he schal do in the tabernacle of witnessyng, which is set among hem, in the myddis of partis of the abitacioun `of hem.17 No man be in the tabernacle, whanne the bischop schal entre in to the seyntuarie, that he preye for hym silf, and for his hows, and for al the cumpeny of Israel, til he go out of the tabernacle.18 Sotheli whanne he hath go out to the auter which is bifor the Lord, preye he for hym silf, and schede he on the hornes therof, bi cumpas, the blood `that is takun of the calf, and of the `buk of geet;19 and sprynge he seuensithis with the fyngur, and clense he, and halewe the autir fro vnclennessis of the sones of Israel.20 Aftir that he hath clensid the seyntuarie, and tabernacle, and auter, thanne offre he the lyuynge `buc of geet;21 and whanne euer eithir hond is set on the heed therof, knowleche the preest alle the wickidnessis of the sones of Israel, and alle the trespassis and synnes `of hem, whiche the preest schal wische to the heed therof, and schal sende hym out in to deseert bi a man maad redi.22 And whanne the `buc of geet hath bore alle the wickidnessis `of hem in to a deseert lond,23 and is left `in deseert, Aaron schal turn ayen in to the tabernacle of witnessyng; and whanne the clothis ben put of, in whiche he was clothid bifore, whanne he entrid in to the seyntuarie of God, and ben left there,24 he schal waische his fleisch in the hooli place, and he schal be clothid in his owen clothis, and aftir that he hath go out, and hath offrid the brent sacrifice of hym silf, and of the puple, he schal preye as wel for hym silf, as for the puple;25 and he schal brenne on the auter the innere fatnesse which is offrid for synne.26 Sotheli he that leet go the `buk of geet able to be sent out, schal waische hise clothis and bodi with water, and so he schal entre in to the castels.27 Forsothe thei schulen bere out of the castels the calf and `buk of geet, that weren offrid for synne, and whos blood was brouyt in to the seyntuarie, that the clensyng were fillid; and thei schulen brenne bi fier as well the skynnys, as the fleischis and dung of tho.28 And who euer brenneth tho, schal waische hise clothis and fleisch in watir, and so he schal entre in to the castels.29 And this schal be to you a lawful thing euerlastynge; in the seuenthe monethe, in the tenthe dai of the monethe, ye schulen turment youre soulis, and ye schulen not do ony werk, nethir a man borun in the lond, nether a comelyng which is a pilgrym among you.30 The delyueryng fro synne, and the clensyng of you schal be in this dai, ye schulen be clensid bifore the Lord fro alle youre synnes;31 for it is sabat of restyng, and ye schulen turment youre soulis bi euerlastynge religioun.32 Sotheli the preest schal clense, which is anoyntid, and whos hondis ben halewid, that he be set in preesthod for his fadir; and he schal be clothid in a lynnun stoole, and in hooli clothis,33 and he schal clense the seyntuarie, and the tabernacle of witnessyng, and the auter, and the preestis, and al the puple.34 And this schal be to you a lawful thing euerlastynge, that ye preye for the sones of Israel, and for alle the synnes `of hem, onys in the yeer. Therfor he dide, as the Lord comaundide to Moises.
