1 Irmãos, quanto aos tempos e épocas, não precisamos escrever-lhes,2 pois vocês mesmos sabem perfeitamente que o dia do Senhor virá como ladrão à noite.3 Quando disserem: "Paz e segurança", então, de repente, a destruição virá sobre eles, como dores à mulher grávida; e de modo nenhum escaparão.4 Mas vocês, irmãos, não estão nas trevas, para que esse dia os surpreenda como ladrão.5 Vocês todos são filhos da luz, filhos do dia. Não somos da noite nem das trevas.6 Portanto, não durmamos como os demais, mas estejamos atentos e sejamos sóbrios;7 pois os que dormem, dormem de noite, e os que se embriagam, embriagam-se de noite.8 Nós, porém, que somos do dia, sejamos sóbrios, vestindo a couraça da fé e do amor e o capacete da esperança da salvação.9 Porque Deus não nos destinou para a ira, mas para recebermos a salvação por meio de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo.10 Ele morreu por nós para que, quer estejamos acordados quer dormindo, vivamos unidos a ele.11 Por isso, exortem-se e edifiquem-se uns aos outros, como de fato vocês estão fazendo.12 Agora lhes pedimos, irmãos, que tenham consideração para com os que se esforçam no trabalho entre vocês, que os lideram no Senhor e os aconselham.13 Tenham-nos na mais alta estima, com amor, por causa do trabalho deles. Vivam em paz uns com os outros.14 Exortamos vocês, irmãos, a que advirtam os ociosos, confortem os desanimados, auxiliem os fracos, sejam pacientes para com todos.15 Tenham cuidado para que ninguém retribua o mal com o mal, mas sejam sempre bondosos uns para com os outros e para com todos.16 Alegrem-se sempre.17 Orem continuamente.18 Dêem graças em todas as circunstâncias, pois esta é a vontade de Deus para vocês em Cristo Jesus.19 Não apaguem o Espírito.20 Não tratem com desprezo as profecias,21 mas ponham à prova todas as coisas e fiquem com o que é bom.22 Afastem-se de toda forma de mal.23 Que o próprio Deus da paz os santifique inteiramente. Que todo o espírito, alma e corpo de vocês seja conservado irrepreensível na vinda de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo.24 Aquele que os chama é fiel, e fará isso.25 Irmãos, orem por nós.26 Saúdem todos os irmãos com beijo santo.27 Responsabilizo-os diante do Senhor para que esta carta seja lida a todos os irmãos.28 A graça de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo seja com vocês.

1 But about the times and the seasons, brothers, ye have no need to be written to you.2 For ye yourselves know accurately that the day of Lord so comes as a thief in the night.3 For when they say, Peace and safety, then sudden destruction approaches them, as the woman having birth pangs in her womb, and they will, no, not escape.4 But ye, brothers, are not in darkness, so that the day would seize you as a thief.5 Ye are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness.6 So then let us not sleep, as also the others, but let us watch and be sober.7 For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who are intoxicated get drunk at night.8 But we, being of the day, should be sober, putting on a breastplate of faith and love, and a helmet, the hope of salvation.9 Because God appointed us not for wrath, but for an acquired possession of salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us.10 So that, whether we are awake or sleep, we should live together with him.11 Therefore encourage each other, and build ye up one by one, just as ye also are doing.12 And we ask you, brothers, to acknowledge those who labor among you, and who lead you in Lord, and who admonish you,13 and to esteem them with exceptional love because of their work. Live peaceably among yourselves.14 And we encourage you, brothers, admonish the unruly, strengthen the weak-spirited, help the infirmed, be patient toward all.15 See that not any man repays evil for evil to any man, but always pursue the good, both for each other and for all.16 Rejoice always.17 Pray without ceasing.18 In everything express thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.19 Do not quench the Spirit.20 Do not disdain prophecies,21 but examine all things. Hold firm the good.22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.23 And may the God of peace himself sanctify you thoroughly. And may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, blamelessly at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.24 Faithful is he who calls you, who also will do it.25 Brothers, pray about us.26 Salute all the brothers by a holy kiss.27 I adjure you by the Lord that the letter be read to all the holy brothers.28 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ is with you.
