1 Representantes de todas as tribos de Israel foram dizer a Davi, em Hebrom: "Somos sangue do teu sangue.2 No passado, mesmo quando Saul era rei, eras tu quem liderava Israel em suas batalhas. E o Senhor te disse: ‘Você pastoreará o meu povo Israel, e será o seu governante’ ".3 Então todas as autoridades de Israel foram ao encontro do rei Davi em Hebrom, e ele fez um acordo com eles em Hebrom perante o Senhor, e eles ungiram Davi rei de Israel.4 Davi tinha trinta anos de idade quando começou a reinar, e reinou durante quarenta anos.5 Em Hebrom, reinou sobre Judá sete anos e meio, e em Jerusalém reinou sobre todo o Israel e Judá trinta e três anos.6 O rei e seus soldados marcharam para Jerusalém para atacar os jebuseus que viviam lá. E os jebuseus disseram a Davi: "Você não entrará aqui! Até os cegos e os aleijados podem se defender de você". Eles achavam que Davi não conseguiria entrar,7 mas, Davi conquistou a fortaleza de Sião, que veio a ser a cidade de Davi.8 Naquele dia disse Davi: "Quem quiser vencer os jebuseus terá que utilizar a passagem de água para chegar àqueles cegos e aleijados, inimigos de Davi". É por isso que dizem: "Os ‘cegos e aleijados’ não entrarão no palácio".9 Davi passou a morar na fortaleza e chamou-a cidade de Davi. Construiu defesas na parte interna da cidade desde os muros de arrimo.10 E foi se tornando cada vez mais poderoso, pois o Senhor Deus dos Exércitos estava com ele.11 Pouco depois Hirão, rei de Tiro, enviou a Davi uma delegação, que trouxe toras de cedro, e também carpinteiros e pedreiros que construíram um palácio para Davi.12 Então Davi teve certeza de que o Senhor o confirmara como rei de Israel e que seu reino estava prosperando por amor de seu povo Israel.13 Depois de mudar-se de Hebrom para Jerusalém, Davi tomou mais concubinas e esposas, e gerou mais filhos e filhas.14 Estes são os nomes dos que lhe nasceram ali: Samua, Sobabe, Natã, Salomão,15 Ibar, Elisua, Nefegue, Jafia,16 Elisama, Eliada e Elifelete.17 Ao saber que Davi tinha sido ungido rei de Israel, os filisteus foram com todo o exército prendê-lo, mas Davi soube disso e foi para a fortaleza.18 Tendo os filisteus se espalhado pelo vale de Refaim,19 Davi perguntou ao Senhor: "Devo atacar os filisteus? Tu os entregarás nas minhas mãos? " O Senhor lhe respondeu: "Vá, eu os entregarei nas suas mãos".20 Então Davi foi a Baal-Perazim e lá os derrotou. E disse: "Assim como as águas de uma enchente causam destruição, pelas minhas mãos o Senhor destruiu os meus inimigos diante de mim". Então aquele lugar passou a ser chamado Baal-Perazim.21 Como os filisteus haviam abandonado os seus ídolos ali, Davi e seus soldados os apanharam.22 Mais uma vez os filisteus marcharam e se espalharam pelo vale de Refaim;23 então Davi consultou o Senhor de novo, que lhe respondeu: "Não ataque pela frente, mas dê a volta por trás deles e ataque-os em frente das amoreiras.24 Assim que você ouvir um som de passos por cima das amoreiras, saia rapidamente, pois este é o sinal de que o Senhor saiu à sua frente para ferir o exército filisteu".25 Davi fez como o Senhor lhe tinha ordenado, e derrotou os filisteus por todo o caminho, desde Gibeom até Gezer.

1 Then all the tribes of Israel came to David to Hebron, and spoke, saying, Behold, we are thy bone and thy flesh.2 In times past, when Saul was king over us, it was thou who led out and brought in Israel. And LORD said to thee, Thou shall be shepherd of my people Israel, and thou shall be prince over Israel.3 So all the elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron. And king David made a covenant with them in Hebron before LORD, and they anointed David king over Israel.4 David was thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years.5 In Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months, and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty-three years over all Israel and Judah.6 And the king and his men went to Jerusalem against the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land, who spoke to David, saying, Unless thou take away the blind and the lame, thou shall not come in here, thinking, David cannot come in he7 Nevertheless David took the stronghold of Zion; the same is the city of David.8 And David said on that day, Whoever smites the Jebusites, let him get up to the watercourse, and [smite] the lame and the blind, the hated by David's soul, because the blind and the lame say, He cannot come into the house.9 And David dwelt in the stronghold, and called it the city of David. And David built round about from Millo and inward.10 And David grew greater and greater, for LORD, the God of hosts, was with him.11 And Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and cedar trees, and carpenters, and masons, and they built David a house.12 And David perceived that LORD had established him king over Israel, and that he had exalted his kingdom for his people Israel's sake.13 And David took for him more concubines and wives out of Jerusalem, after he came from Hebron, and there were yet sons and daughters born to David.14 And these are the names of those who were born to him in Jerusalem: Shammua, and Shobab, and Nathan, and Solomon,15 and Ibhar, and Elishua, and Nepheg, and Japhia,16 and Elishama, and Eliada, and Eliphelet.17 And when the Philistines heard that they had anointed David king over Israel, all the Philistines went up to seek David. And David heard of it, and went down to the stronghold.18 Now the Philistines had come and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim.19 And David inquired of LORD, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will thou deliver them into my hand? And LORD said to David, Go up, for I will certainly deliver the Philistines into thy hand.20 And David came to Baal-perazim, and David smote them there. And he said, LORD has broken my enemies before me, like the breach of waters. Therefore he called the name of that place Baal-perazim.21 And they left their images there, and David and his men took them away.22 And the Philistines came up yet again, and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim.23 And when David inquired of LORD, he said, Thou shall not go up. Make a circuit behind them, and come upon them opposite the mulberry trees.24 And it shall be, when thou hear the sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then thou shall bestir thyself, for then LORD has gone out before thee to smite the army of the Philistines.25 And David did so, as LORD commanded him, and smote the Philistines from Geba until thou come to Gezer.
