1 Há muito tempo Deus falou muitas vezes e de várias maneiras aos nossos antepassados por meio dos profetas,2 mas nestes últimos dias falou-nos por meio do Filho, a quem constituiu herdeiro de todas as coisas e por meio de quem fez o universo.3 O Filho é o resplendor da glória de Deus e a expressão exata do seu ser, sustentando todas as coisas por sua palavra poderosa. Depois de ter realizado a purificação dos pecados, ele se assentou à direita da Majestade nas alturas,4 tornando-se tão superior aos anjos quanto o nome que herdou é superior ao deles.5 Pois a qual dos anjos Deus alguma vez disse: "Tu és meu Filho; eu hoje te gerei"? E outra vez: "Eu serei seu Pai, e ele será meu Filho"?6 E ainda, quando Deus introduz o Primogênito no mundo, diz: "Todos os anjos de Deus o adorem".7 Quanto aos anjos, ele diz: "Ele faz dos seus anjos ventos, e dos seus servos, clarões reluzentes".8 Mas a respeito do Filho, diz: "O teu trono, ó Deus, subsiste para todo o sempre; cetro de eqüidade é o cetro do teu Reino.9 Amas a justiça e odeias a iniqüidade; por isso, Deus, o teu Deus, escolheu-te dentre os teus companheiros, ungindo-te com óleo de alegria".10 E também diz: "No princípio, Senhor, firmaste os fundamentos da terra, e os céus são obras das tuas mãos.11 Eles perecerão, mas tu permanecerás; envelhecerão como vestimentas.12 Tu os enrolarás como um manto, como roupas eles serão trocados. Mas tu permaneces o mesmo, e os teus dias jamais terão fim".13 A qual dos anjos Deus alguma vez disse: "Senta-te à minha direita, até que eu faça dos teus inimigos um estrado para os teus pés"?14 Os anjos não são, todos eles, espíritos ministradores enviados para servir aqueles que hão de herdar a salvação?

1 God, who formerly spoke in many portions and in many ways to the fathers by the prophets, spoke to us in these last days by a Son,2 whom he appointed heir of all things, through whom also he made the ages.3 Who, being the radiance of his glory, and the exact image of his essence, and upholding all things by the word of his power, having made purification of our sins through himself, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in the4 Having become so much better than the heavenly agents, as he has inherited a more excellent name than they.5 For to which of the heavenly agents did he ever say, Thou are my Son, today I have begotten thee? And again, I will be to him for a Father, and he will be to me for a Son?6 And again when he brings the firstborn into the world he says, And let all the agents of God worship him.7 And indeed toward the heavenly agents he says, He who makes his agents spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire.8 But toward the Son, Thy throne, O God, is into the age of the age. The scepter of thy kingdom is a scepter of straightness.9 Thou have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness. Because of this, God, thy God, anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy companions.10 And thou, Lord, at the beginnings founded the earth, and the heavens are the works of thy hands.11 They will perish, but thou are permanent. And they will all become old as a garment.12 And thou will roll them up as a mantle, and they will be changed. But thou are the same, and thy years will not cease.13 But to which of the heavenly agents has he ever said, Sit thou by my right hand until I place thine enemies a footstool of thy feet?14 Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth for service for the sake of those who are going to inherit salvation?
