A manifestação do homem da iniquidade

1 Irmãos, quanto à vinda do nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo e à nossa reunião com ele, rogamos a vocês 2 que não se deixem abalar nem alarmar tão facilmente, quer por espírito,*2.2 Ou por profecia. quer por palavra, quer por carta, supostamente enviada por nós, afirmando que o dia do Senhor já chegou. 3 Que ninguém os engane de modo algum, porque aquele dia não acontecerá sem que primeiro venha a apostasia e seja revelado o homem da iniquidade*2.3 Há manuscritos que trazem do pecado., o filho da perdição. 4 Este se opõe e se exalta acima de tudo o que se chama Deus ou é objeto de culto, chegando até a sentar no templo de Deus, fazendo-se passar por Deus.

5 Não se lembram de que eu costumava falar dessas coisas quando ainda estava com vocês? 6 Agora, vocês sabem o que o está detendo, para que ele seja revelado no devido tempo. 7 A verdade é que o mistério da iniquidade já está em atuação, faltando apenas ser afastado aquele que agora o detém. 8 Então, será revelado o iníquo, a quem o Senhor Jesus matará com o sopro da sua boca e destruirá pela manifestação da sua vinda. 9 A vinda desse iníquo é segundo a ação de Satanás, com todo tipo de poder, sinais e prodígios falsos, 10 bem como toda forma de injustiça, para enganar os que perecem, pois não acolheram o amor à verdade a fim de serem salvos. 11 Por essa razão, Deus envia a eles um poder sedutor, a fim de que creiam na mentira 12 e sejam condenados todos os que não creram na verdade, mas tiveram prazer na injustiça.

Exortação à perseverança

13 Contudo, devemos sempre dar graças a Deus por vocês, irmãos amados pelo Senhor, porque Deus os escolheu como primeiros frutos,*2.13 Há manuscritos que trazem escolheu desde o princípio. para serem salvos pela obra santificadora do Espírito e pela fé na verdade. 14 Ele os chamou para isso por meio do nosso evangelho, a fim de que se tornem participantes da glória do nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo. 15 Portanto, irmãos, permaneçam firmes e apeguem-se às tradições que foram ensinadas a vocês, quer de viva voz, quer por carta nossa.

16 Que o próprio Senhor Jesus Cristo e Deus, o nosso Pai, que nos amou e nos deu eterna consolação e boa esperança pela graça, 17 deem ânimo ao coração de vocês e os fortaleçam para que tantos os seus atos como as suas palavras sejam bons.

1 Now we beseech you, brethren, touching the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and our gathering together unto him; 2 to the end that ye be not quickly shaken from your mind, nor yet be troubled, either by spirit, or by word, or by epistle as from us, as that the day of the Lord is just at hand; 3 let no man beguile you in any wise: for it will not be, except the falling away come first, and the man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition, 4 he that opposeth and exalteth himself against all that is called God or that is worshipped; so that he sitteth in the temple of God, setting himself forth as God. 5 Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things? 6 And now ye know that which restraineth, to the end that he may be revealed in his own season. 7 For the mystery of lawlessness doth already work: only there is one that restraineth now, until he be taken out of the way. 8 And then shall be revealed the lawless one, whom the Lord Jesus shall slay with the breath of his mouth, and bring to nought by the manifestation of his coming; 9 even he, whose coming is according to the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, 10 and with all deceit of unrighteousness for them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 And for this cause God sendeth them a working of error, that they should believe a lie: 12 that they all might be judged who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

13 But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, for that God chose you from the beginning unto salvation in sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth: 14 whereunto he called you through our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. 15 So then, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye were taught, whether by word, or by epistle of ours.

16 Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace, 17 comfort your hearts and establish them in every good work and word.
