Eclesiastes 11

Sábios conselhos

1 Atire o seu pão sobre as águas;*11.1 Possível referência à generosidade ou ao comércio marítimo.

depois de muitos dias você tornará a encontrá-lo.

2 Reparta o que você tem com sete, até mesmo com oito,

pois você não sabe que desgraça poderá cair sobre a terra.

3 Quando as nuvens estão carregadas,

derramam chuva sobre a terra.

Quer uma árvore caia para o sul, quer para o norte,

no lugar em que cair, ficará.

4 Quem fica observando o vento não plantará,

e quem fica olhando para as nuvens não colherá.

5 Assim como você não conhece o caminho do vento,

nem como o corpo é formado*11.5 Ou não sabe como a vida (ou o espírito) entra no corpo que está se formando. no ventre de uma mulher,

tampouco pode compreender o que Deus faz,

o Criador de todas as coisas.

6 Plante de manhã a sua semente

e à tarde não fique de braços cruzados,

pois você não sabe qual semente crescerá,

se esta ou aquela,

ou se ambas serão igualmente boas.

Conselho para os jovens

7 A luz é agradável,

e faz bem aos olhos ver o sol.

8 Mesmo que um homem viva muitos anos,

deve desfrutar de todos eles.

Lembre-se, porém, dos dias de trevas,

pois serão muitos.

Tudo o que virá é inútil.

9 Alegre-se, jovem, na sua mocidade!

Seja feliz o seu coração nos dias da sua juventude!

Ande pelos caminhos do seu coração,

e conforme tudo o que agradar aos seus olhos,

mas saiba que por todas essas coisas

Deus o trará a julgamento.

10 Afaste do coração a ira

e remova o sofrimento do seu corpo,

pois a juventude e o vigor são passageiros.

1 Cast thy bread upon the waters; for thou shalt find it after many days. 2 Give a portion to seven, yea, even unto eight; for thou knowest not what evil shall be upon the earth. 3 If the clouds be full of rain, they empty themselves upon the earth; and if a tree fall toward the south, or toward the north, in the place where the tree falleth, there shall it be. 4 He that observeth the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap. 5 As thou knowest not what is the way of the wind, nor how the bones do grow in the womb of her that is with child; even so thou knowest not the work of God who doeth all. 6 In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thy hand; for thou knowest not which shall prosper, whether this or that, or whether they both shall be alike good. 7 Truly the light is sweet, and a pleasant thing it is for the eyes to behold the sun. 8 Yea, if a man live many years, let him rejoice in them all; but let him remember the days of darkness, for they shall be many. All that cometh is vanity.

9 Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth, and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thy heart, and in the sight of thine eyes; but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment. 10 Therefore remove sorrow from thy heart, and put away evil from thy flesh; for youth and the dawn of life are vanity.
