A oração de Habacuque

2 Senhor, ouvi falar da tua fama;

tremo diante dos teus atos, Senhor.

Realiza de novo, na nossa época, as mesmas obras,

faz que sejam conhecidas no nosso tempo;

na tua ira, lembra-te da misericórdia.

3 Deus veio de Temã;

o Santo veio do monte Parã. Pausa*3.3 Em hebraico, selá. O significado dessa expressão em hebraico é incerto; provavelmente uma indicação musical; também nos versículos 9 e 13.

A sua glória cobriu os céus,

e o seu louvor encheu a terra.

4 O seu esplendor era como a luz do sol;

raios lampejavam da sua mão,

onde se escondia o seu poder.

5 Pragas iam adiante dele;

doenças terríveis seguiam os seus passos.

6 Ele parou, e a terra tremeu;

olhou, e fez estremecer as nações.

Montes antigos desmoronaram;

colinas antiquíssimas se desfizeram.

Os caminhos dele são eternos.

7 Vi a aflição das tendas de Cuchã;

tremiam as cortinas das tendas de Midiã.

8 Era com os rios que estavas irado, Senhor?

Era contra os riachos o teu furor?

Foi contra o mar que a tua fúria transbordou

quando cavalgaste com os teus cavalos

e com os teus carros de guerra vitoriosos?

9 Preparaste o teu arco;

pediste muitas flechas.*3.9 A Septuaginta traz contra os cetros, diz o Senhor; um manuscrito grego traz tu saciaste as flechas das tuas aljavas. O significado desse versículo em hebraico é incerto.Pausa

Fendeste a terra com rios;

10 os montes te viram e se contorceram.

Torrentes de água desceram com violência;

o abismo estrondou,

erguendo as suas ondas.

11 O sol e a lua pararam nas suas moradas,

diante do reflexo das tuas flechas voadoras,

diante do lampejo da tua lança reluzente.

12 Com ira andaste a passos largos por toda a terra

e com indignação pisoteaste as nações.

13 Saíste para salvar o teu povo,

para libertar o teu ungido.

Esmagaste o líder do povo ímpio,

desnudando-o da cabeça aos pés. Pausa

14 Com as suas próprias flechas atravessaste a cabeça dele,

quando os seus guerreiros saíram

como um furacão para nos espalhar

com maldoso prazer,

como se estivessem prestes a devorar

o necessitado no seu esconderijo.

15 Pisaste o mar com os teus cavalos,

agitando as grandes águas.

16 Ouvi isso, e o meu íntimo estremeceu;

os meus lábios tremeram;

os meus ossos apodreceram;

as minhas pernas vacilaram.

Tranquilo esperarei o dia da desgraça,

que virá sobre o povo que nos ataca.

17 Mesmo que a figueira não floresça

nem haja fruto na videira;

mesmo que a safra de azeitonas decepcione

e os campos não produzam alimento;

mesmo que não haja ovelhas no curral

nem bois nos estábulos,

18 ainda assim eu exultarei no Senhor

e me alegrarei no Deus da minha salvação.

19 O Senhor, o Soberano, é a minha força;

ele faz os meus pés como os do cervo

e faz-me andar nos meus lugares altos.

2 O Jehovah, I have heard the report of thee, and am afraid:

O Jehovah, revive thy work in the midst of the years;

In the midst of the years make it known;

In wrath remember mercy.

3 God came from Teman,

And the Holy One from mount Paran. [Selah

His glory covered the heavens,

And the earth was full of his praise.

4 And his brightness was as the light;

He had rays coming forth from his hand;

And there was the hiding of his power.

5 Before him went the pestilence,

And fiery bolts went forth at his feet.

6 He stood, and measured the earth;

He beheld, and drove asunder the nations;

And the eternal mountains were scattered;

The everlasting hills did bow;

His goings were as of old.

7 I saw the tents of Cushan in affliction;

The curtains of the land of Midian did tremble.

8 Was Jehovah displeased with the rivers?

Was thine anger against the rivers,

Or thy wrath against the sea,

That thou didst ride upon thy horses,

Upon thy chariots of salvation?

9 Thy bow was made quite bare;

The oaths to the tribes were a sure word. [Selah

Thou didst cleave the earth with rivers.

10 The mountains saw thee, and were afraid;

The tempest of waters passed by;

The deep uttered its voice,

And lifted up its hands on high.

11 The sun and moon stood still in their habitation,

At the light of thine arrows as they went,

At the shining of thy glittering spear.

12 Thou didst march through the land in indignation;

Thou didst thresh the nations in anger.

13 Thou wentest forth for the salvation of thy people,

For the salvation of thine anointed;

Thou woundedst the head out of the house of the wicked man,

Laying bare the foundation even unto the neck. [Selah

14 Thou didst pierce with his own staves the head of his warriors:

They came as a whirlwind to scatter me;

Their rejoicing was as to devour the poor secretly.

15 Thou didst tread the sea with thy horses,

The heap of mighty waters.

16 I heard, and my body trembled,

My lips quivered at the voice;

Rottenness entereth into my bones, and I tremble in my place;

Because I must wait quietly for the day of trouble,

For the coming up of the people that invadeth us.

17 For though the fig-tree shall not flourish,

Neither shall fruit be in the vines;

The labor of the olive shall fail,

And the fields shall yield no food;

The flock shall be cut off from the fold,

And there shall be no herd in the stalls:

18 Yet I will rejoice in Jehovah,

I will joy in the God of my salvation.

19 Jehovah, the Lord, is my strength;

And he maketh my feet like hinds’ feet,

And will make me to walk upon my high places.
