Provérbios 31

1 Ditados do rei Lemuel; uma advertência que a sua mãe lhe fez:*31.1 Ou Ditados de Lemuel, rei de Massá, os quais a sua mãe lhe ensinou:.

2 "Ó meu filho, filho do meu ventre,

filho dos meus votos,*31.2 Ou resposta às minhas orações.

3 não gaste a sua força com mulheres

nem o seu vigor com aquelas que destroem reis.

4 "Não convém aos reis, ó Lemuel,

não convém aos reis beber vinho.

Não convém aos governantes desejar bebida fermentada,

5 para não suceder que bebam e se esqueçam do que a lei determina

e deixem de fazer justiça aos oprimidos.

6 Dê bebida fermentada aos que estão prestes a morrer

e vinho aos que estão angustiados,

7 para que bebam e se esqueçam da sua pobreza

e não se lembrem mais da sua infelicidade.

8 "Erga a voz em favor dos que não podem defender-se;

seja o defensor de todos os desamparados.

9 Erga a voz e julgue com justiça;

defenda os direitos dos pobres e dos necessitados".

10 * 31.10 Os versículos 10-31 são um poema acróstico no qual cada verso começa com uma letra em ordem sucessiva do alfabeto hebraico. Uma mulher de valor; feliz quem a encontrar!

É muito mais valiosa que os rubis.

11 O seu marido tem plena confiança nela,

e nunca lhe falta coisa alguma.

12 Ela só lhe faz bem, não mal,

todos os dias da sua vida.

13 Escolhe a lã e o linho

e com prazer trabalha com as mãos.

14 Como os navios mercantes,

ela traz de longe as suas provisões.

15 Antes de clarear o dia, ela se levanta,

prepara a comida para todos os da casa

e designa tarefas às suas servas.

16 Ela avalia um campo e o compra;

com o que ganha planta uma vinha.

17 Entrega-se com vontade ao seu trabalho;

os seus braços são fortes e vigorosos.

18 Ela percebe que o seu comércio é lucrativo,

e a sua lâmpada fica acesa durante a noite.

19 Nas mãos segura o fuso

e com os dedos pega a roca.

20 Acolhe os necessitados

e estende a mão aos pobres.

21 Não teme por seus familiares quando chega a neve,

pois todos eles se agasalham com roupas de cor escarlate.

22 Faz cobertas para a sua cama;

veste-se de linho fino e de púrpura.

23 O seu marido é respeitado na porta da cidade,

onde toma assento entre as autoridades da terra.

24 Ela faz vestes de linho e as vende

e fornece cintos aos comerciantes.

25 Reveste-se de força e dignidade;

sorri diante do futuro.

26 Fala com sabedoria

e ensina com amor.

27 Cuida dos negócios da sua casa

e não come o pão da preguiça.

28 Os seus filhos se levantam e a elogiam;

o seu marido também a elogia, dizendo:

29 "Muitas mulheres agem valorosamente,

mas você supera todas elas".

30 A beleza é enganosa, e a formosura é passageira,

mas a mulher que teme ao Senhor será elogiada.

31 Que ela receba a recompensa merecida,

e as suas obras sejam elogiadas à porta da cidade.

2 What, my son? and what, O son of my womb?

And what, O son of my vows?

3 Give not thy strength unto women,

Nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings.

4 It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine;

Nor for princes to say, Where is strong drink?

5 Lest they drink, and forget the law,

And pervert the justice due to any that is afflicted.

6 Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish,

And wine unto the bitter in soul:

7 Let him drink, and forget his poverty,

And remember his misery no more.

8 Open thy mouth for the dumb,

In the cause of all such as are left desolate.

9 Open thy mouth, judge righteously,

And minister justice to the poor and needy.

10 A worthy woman who can find?

For her price is far above rubies.

11 The heart of her husband trusteth in her,

And he shall have no lack of gain.

12 She doeth him good and not evil

All the days of her life.

13 She seeketh wool and flax,

And worketh willingly with her hands.

14 She is like the merchant-ships;

She bringeth her bread from afar.

15 She riseth also while it is yet night,

And giveth food to her household,

And their task to her maidens.

16 She considereth a field, and buyeth it;

With the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.

17 She girdeth her loins with strength,

And maketh strong her arms.

18 She perceiveth that her merchandise is profitable;

Her lamp goeth not out by night.

19 She layeth her hands to the distaff,

And her hands hold the spindle.

20 She stretcheth out her hand to the poor;

Yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.

21 She is not afraid of the snow for her household;

For all her household are clothed with scarlet.

22 She maketh for herself carpets of tapestry;

Her clothing is fine linen and purple.

23 Her husband is known in the gates,

When he sitteth among the elders of the land.

24 She maketh linen garments and selleth them,

And delivereth girdles unto the merchant.

25 Strength and dignity are her clothing;

And she laugheth at the time to come.

26 She openeth her mouth with wisdom;

And the law of kindness is on her tongue.

27 She looketh well to the ways of her household,

And eateth not the bread of idleness.

28 Her children rise up, and call her blessed;

Her husband also, and he praiseth her, saying:

29 Many daughters have done worthily,

But thou excellest them all.

30 Grace is deceitful, and beauty is vain;

But a woman that feareth Jehovah, she shall be praised.

31 Give her of the fruit of her hands;

And let her works praise her in the gates.
