Isaías 64

Os montes tremeriam diante de ti!

2 Como quando o fogo acende os gravetos

e faz a água ferver,

desce para que os teus inimigos conheçam o teu nome

e as nações tremam diante de ti!

3 Pois, quando fizeste coisas tremendas, coisas que não esperávamos,

tu desceste, e os montes tremeram diante de ti.

4 Desde os tempos antigos, ninguém ouviu,

nenhum ouvido percebeu

e olho nenhum viu outro Deus além de ti,

que trabalha para aqueles que nele esperam.

5 Vens ajudar aqueles que praticam a justiça com alegria,

que se lembram de ti e dos teus caminhos.

Contudo, ao prosseguirmos em pecado,

tu te iraste.

Como, então, seremos salvos?

6 Somos como o impuro — todos nós!

Todos os nossos atos de justiça são como trapo imundo.*64.6 Hebraico: roupa de menstruações.

Murchamos como folhas,

e, como o vento, as iniquidades de todos nós arrastam-nos para longe.

7 Não há ninguém que clame pelo teu nome,

que se anime a apegar-se a ti,

pois escondeste de nós o teu rosto e nos deixaste perecer

por causa das nossas iniquidades.

8 Contudo, Senhor, tu és o nosso Pai.

Nós somos o barro; tu és o oleiro.

Todos nós somos obra das tuas mãos.

9 Não te ires demais, ó Senhor!

Não te lembres constantemente das nossas maldades.

Olha para nós!

Somos o teu povo!

10 As tuas cidades sagradas transformaram-se em deserto.

Até Sião virou um deserto, e Jerusalém, uma desolação!

11 O nosso templo santo e glorioso, onde os nossos antepassados te louvavam,

foi destruído pelo fogo,

e tudo o que nos era precioso está em ruínas.

12 Depois disso tudo, Senhor, ainda irás te conter?

Ficarás calado e nos castigarás além da conta?

1 Oh that thou wouldest rend the heavens, that thou wouldest come down, that the mountains might flow down at thy presence, 2 As when the melting fire burneth, the fire causeth the waters to boil, to make thy name known to thine adversaries, that the nations may tremble at thy presence!*64.2 the melting…: Heb. the fire of meltings 3 When thou didst terrible things which we looked not for, thou camest down, the mountains flowed down at thy presence. 4 For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, what he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him.*64.4 seen…: or, seen a God beside thee, which doeth so for him, etc 5 Thou meetest him that rejoiceth and worketh righteousness, those that remember thee in thy ways: behold, thou art wroth; for we have sinned: in those is continuance, and we shall be saved.

6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away. 7 And there is none that calleth upon thy name, that stirreth up himself to take hold of thee: for thou hast hid thy face from us, and hast consumed us, because of our iniquities.*64.7 consumed: Heb. melted*64.7 because: Heb. by the hand 8 But now, O LORD, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.

9 Be not wroth very sore, O LORD, neither remember iniquity for ever: behold, see, we beseech thee, we are all thy people. 10 Thy holy cities are a wilderness, Zion is a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation. 11 Our holy and our beautiful house, where our fathers praised thee, is burned up with fire: and all our pleasant things are laid waste. 12 Wilt thou refrain thyself for these things, O LORD? wilt thou hold thy peace, and afflict us very sore?
