Zacarias 7

Justiça e misericórdia em vez de jejuns

1 No quarto ano do reinado do rei Dario, a palavra do Senhor veio a Zacarias, no quarto dia do nono mês, o mês de quisleu.*7.1 Aproximadamente novembro/dezembro.2 Foi quando o povo de Betel enviou Sarezer e Regém-Meleque com os seus homens, para suplicarem ao Senhor, 3 perguntando aos sacerdotes do templo do Senhor dos Exércitos e aos profetas:

— Devemos lamentar e jejuar no quinto mês, como já estamos fazendo há tantos anos?

4 Então, a palavra do Senhor dos Exércitos veio a mim:

5 — Pergunte a todo o povo da terra e aos sacerdotes: "Quando vocês jejuaram e choraram no quinto e no sétimo meses durante os últimos setenta anos, foi de fato para mim que jejuaram? 6 E, quando comiam e bebiam, não era para vocês mesmos que o faziam? 7 Não são estas as palavras do Senhor proclamadas pelos antigos profetas quando Jerusalém e as cidades ao seu redor estavam em paz e prosperavam, e o Neguebe e a Sefelá*7.7 Pequena faixa de terra de relevo variável entre a planície costeira e as montanhas. eram habitados?".

8 A palavra do Senhor veio novamente a Zacarias:

9 — Assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos: "Administrem a verdadeira justiça, mostrem misericórdia e compaixão uns para com os outros. 10 Não oprimam a viúva, nem o órfão, nem o estrangeiro, nem o necessitado. Não tramem maldades uns contra os outros no coração".

11 — Eles, porém, recusaram-se a dar atenção; teimosamente, viraram as costas e taparam os ouvidos. 12 Endureceram o coração feito pedra e não ouviram a lei e as palavras que o Senhor dos Exércitos enviou, pelo seu Espírito, por meio dos antigos profetas. Por isso, o Senhor dos Exércitos irou-se muito. 13 "Quando eu os chamei, não me deram ouvidos; por isso, quando eles me chamarem, também não os ouvirei", diz o Senhor dos Exércitos. 14 "Eu os espalhei com um vendaval entre as nações que eles nem conhecem. A terra que deixaram para trás ficou tão destruída que ninguém podia atravessá-la. Foi assim que transformaram a terra desejável em ruínas."

1 And it came to pass in the fourth year of king Darius, that the word of the LORD came unto Zechariah in the fourth day of the ninth month, even in Chisleu; 2 When they had sent unto the house of God Sherezer and Regem-melech, and their men, to pray before the LORD,*7.2 pray…: Heb. intreat the face of 3 And to speak unto the priests which were in the house of the LORD of hosts, and to the prophets, saying, Should I weep in the fifth month, separating myself, as I have done these so many years?

4 Then came the word of the LORD of hosts unto me, saying, 5 Speak unto all the people of the land, and to the priests, saying, When ye fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh month, even those seventy years, did ye at all fast unto me, even to me? 6 And when ye did eat, and when ye did drink, did not ye eat for yourselves, and drink for yourselves?*7.6 did not ye: or, be not ye they that 7 Should ye not hear the words which the LORD hath cried by the former prophets, when Jerusalem was inhabited and in prosperity, and the cities thereof round about her, when men inhabited the south and the plain?*7.7 Should…: or, Are not these the words*7.7 by: Heb. by the hand of

8 And the word of the LORD came unto Zechariah, saying, 9 Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Execute true judgment, and shew mercy and compassions every man to his brother:*7.9 Execute…: Heb. Judge judgment of truth 10 And oppress not the widow, nor the fatherless, the stranger, nor the poor; and let none of you imagine evil against his brother in your heart. 11 But they refused to hearken, and pulled away the shoulder, and stopped their ears, that they should not hear.*7.11 pulled…: Heb. they gave a backsliding shoulder*7.11 stopped: Heb. made heavy 12 Yea, they made their hearts as an adamant stone, lest they should hear the law, and the words which the LORD of hosts hath sent in his spirit by the former prophets: therefore came a great wrath from the LORD of hosts.*7.12 by: Heb. by the hand of 13 Therefore it is come to pass, that as he cried, and they would not hear; so they cried, and I would not hear, saith the LORD of hosts: 14 But I scattered them with a whirlwind among all the nations whom they knew not.
