Litígios entre os irmãos

1 Se algum de vocês tem queixa contra outro irmão, como ousa apresentar a causa para ser julgada pelos injustos em vez de levá-la aos santos? 2 Vocês não sabem que os santos hão de julgar o mundo? Se vocês hão de julgar o mundo, acaso não são capazes de julgar causas de menor importância? 3 Vocês não sabem que haveremos de julgar os anjos? Quanto mais as coisas desta vida! 4 Portanto, quando vocês têm questões relativas às coisas desta vida, nomeiam juízes os que são rejeitados nas questões relativas aos valores da igreja? 5 Digo isso para envergonhá-los. Acaso não há entre vocês alguém suficientemente sábio para julgar uma causa entre irmãos? 6 Em vez disso, porém, um irmão vai ao tribunal contra outro irmão, e isso diante de descrentes!

7 O fato de haver ações judiciais entre vocês já significa uma completa derrota. Por que não preferem sofrer a injustiça? Por que não preferem sofrer o prejuízo? 8 Em vez disso, vocês mesmos causam injustiças e prejuízos, e isso contra irmãos!

9 Vocês não sabem que os injustos não herdarão o reino de Deus? Não se deixem enganar: nem os sexualmente imorais, nem os idólatras, nem os adúlteros, nem homens que têm relações sexuais com outros homens,*6.9 A expressão homens que têm relações sexuais com outros homens traduz dois termos gregos que descrevem homens em diversos tipos de ato sexual voluntário com outros homens.10 nem os ladrões, nem os avarentos, nem os alcoólatras, nem os caluniadores, nem os trapaceiros herdarão o reino de Deus. 11 Alguns de vocês foram assim. Contudo, foram lavados, foram santificados, foram justificados no nome do Senhor Jesus Cristo e pelo Espírito do nosso Deus.

A imoralidade sexual

12 "Tudo me é permitido", mas nem tudo convém. "Tudo me é permitido", mas eu não deixarei que nada me domine. 13 "Os alimentos são para o estômago, e o estômago, para os alimentos", mas Deus destruirá ambos. O corpo, porém, não é para a imoralidade sexual, mas para o Senhor, e o Senhor, para o corpo. 14 Deus, pelo seu poder, ressuscitou o Senhor e também nos ressuscitará. 15 Vocês não sabem que o corpo de cada um de vocês é membro de Cristo? Tomarei eu os membros de Cristo e os unirei a uma prostituta? De maneira nenhuma! 16 Vocês não sabem que aquele que se une a uma prostituta é um corpo com ela? Pois está escrito: "Os dois se tornarão uma só carne".*6.16 Gn 2.24.17 Aquele, porém, que se une ao Senhor é um espírito com ele.

18 Fujam da imoralidade sexual. Todos os outros pecados que alguém comete são cometidos fora do corpo, mas quem comete imoralidade sexual peca contra o próprio corpo. 19 Acaso não sabem que o corpo de vocês é templo do Espírito Santo, que está em vocês, o qual receberam de Deus? Vocês não são de vocês mesmos; 20 foram comprados por um preço. Portanto, glorifiquem a Deus com o corpo de vocês.*6.20 Há manuscritos que acrescentam e no espírito de vocês, que são de Deus.

Lawsuits Among Believers

1 If any of you has a dispute with another, do you dare to take it before the ungodly for judgment instead of before the Lord’s people? 2 Or do you not know that the Lord’s people will judge the world? And if you are to judge the world, are you not competent to judge trivial cases? 3 Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more the things of this life! 4 Therefore, if you have disputes about such matters, do you ask for a ruling from those whose way of life is scorned in the church? 5 I say this to shame you. Is it possible that there is nobody among you wise enough to judge a dispute between believers? 6 But instead, one brother takes another to court—and this in front of unbelievers!

7 The very fact that you have lawsuits among you means you have been completely defeated already. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be cheated? 8 Instead, you yourselves cheat and do wrong, and you do this to your brothers and sisters. 9 Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men*6:9 The words men who have sex with men translate two Greek words that refer to the passive and active participants in homosexual acts.10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

Sexual Immorality

12 "I have the right to do anything," you say—but not everything is beneficial. "I have the right to do anything"—but I will not be mastered by anything. 13 You say, "Food for the stomach and the stomach for food, and God will destroy them both." The body, however, is not meant for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. 14 By his power God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise us also. 15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never! 16 Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, "The two will become one flesh."*6:16 Gen. 2:2417 But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit.*6:17 Or in the Spirit

18 Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. 19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.
