A arca é levada de volta para Jerusalém

1 Depois que Davi construiu casas*15.1 Ou um palácio. para si na Cidade de Davi, ele preparou um lugar para a arca de Deus e armou uma tenda para ela. 2 Então, disse:

— Somente os levitas poderão carregar a arca de Deus, pois para isso o Senhor os escolheu e também para ficarem sempre ao seu serviço.

3 Davi reuniu todo o Israel em Jerusalém para trazer a arca do Senhor até o lugar que ele lhe havia preparado.

4 Reuniu também os descendentes de Arão e os levitas:

5 dos descendentes de Coate,

Uriel, líder de cento e vinte;

6 dos descendentes de Merari,

Asaías, líder de duzentos e vinte;

7 dos descendentes de Gérson,

Joel, líder de cento e trinta;

8 dos descendentes de Elisafã,

Semaías, líder de duzentos;

9 dos descendentes de Hebrom,

Eliel, líder de oitenta;

10 dos descendentes de Uziel,

Aminadabe, líder de cento e doze.

11 Em seguida, Davi convocou os sacerdotes Zadoque e Abiatar, os levitas Uriel, Asaías, Joel, Semaías, Eliel e Aminadabe, e 12 lhes disse:

— Vocês são os chefes das famílias levitas; vocês e os seus companheiros levitas deverão se consagrar e trazer a arca do Senhor, o Deus de Israel, para o local que preparei para ela. 13 Pelo fato de vocês não terem carregado a arca na primeira vez, a ira do Senhor, o nosso Deus, causou destruição entre nós. Nós não o tínhamos consultado sobre como proceder.

14 Então, os sacerdotes e os levitas se consagraram para transportar a arca do Senhor, o Deus de Israel. 15 Os levitas carregaram a arca de Deus apoiando as varas da arca sobre os ombros, conforme Moisés tinha ordenado, de acordo com a palavra do Senhor.

16 Davi também ordenou aos líderes dos levitas que encarregassem os músicos que havia entre eles de cantar músicas alegres, acompanhados por instrumentos musicais: liras, harpas e címbalos sonoros.

17 Assim, os levitas escolheram Hemã, filho de Joel, e Asafe, filho de Berequias, um dos parentes dele; dentre os meraritas, parentes deles, escolheram Etã, filho de Cuxaías; 18 com eles, os seus parentes que estavam no segundo escalão: Zacarias,*15.18 Conforme três manuscritos do Texto Massorético e a Septuaginta. 19 Os músicos Hemã, Asafe e Etã deviam tocar os címbalos de bronze; 20 Zacarias, Aziel, Semiramote, Jeiel, Uni, Eliabe, Maaseias e Benaia deviam tocar as liras, de acordo com alamot;*15.20 Provavelmente uma indicação musical.21 Matitias, Elifeleu, Micneias, Obede-Edom, Jeiel e Azazias deviam tocar as harpas em oitava, marcando o ritmo. 22 Quenanias, o chefe dos levitas, ficou encarregado dos cânticos; esta era a sua responsabilidade, pois ele tinha competência para isso.

23 Berequias e Elcana seriam porteiros e deveriam proteger a arca. 24 Os sacerdotes Sebanias, Josafá, Natanael, Amasai, Zacarias, Benaia e Eliézer deviam tocar as trombetas diante da arca de Deus. Obede-Edom e Jeías também deviam ser porteiros e vigiar a arca.

25 Assim, com grande festa, Davi, as autoridades de Israel e os líderes dos batalhões de mil foram buscar a arca da aliança do Senhor, que estava na casa de Obede-Edom. 26 Como Deus havia poupado os levitas que carregavam a arca da aliança do Senhor, sete novilhos e sete carneiros foram sacrificados. 27 Davi vestia um manto de linho fino, como também todos os levitas que carregavam a arca, os músicos e Quenanias, chefe dos músicos. Davi vestia também o colete sacerdotal de linho. 28 Assim, todo o Israel acompanhou a arca da aliança do Senhor com gritos de alegria e ao som de trombetas, cornetas e címbalos e ao toque de liras e de harpas.

29 Quando a arca da aliança do Senhor estava entrando na Cidade de Davi, Mical, filha de Saul, observava de uma janela. Ao ver o rei Davi dançando e celebrando, ela o desprezou em seu coração.

The Ark Brought to Jerusalem

1 After David had constructed buildings for himself in the City of David, he prepared a place for the ark of God and pitched a tent for it. 2 Then David said, "No one but the Levites may carry the ark of God, because the Lord chose them to carry the ark of the Lord and to minister before him forever."

3 David assembled all Israel in Jerusalem to bring up the ark of the Lord to the place he had prepared for it. 4 He called together the descendants of Aaron and the Levites:

5 From the descendants of Kohath,

Uriel the leader and 120 relatives;

6 from the descendants of Merari,

Asaiah the leader and 220 relatives;

7 from the descendants of Gershon,*15:7 Hebrew Gershom, a variant of Gershon

Joel the leader and 130 relatives;

8 from the descendants of Elizaphan,

Shemaiah the leader and 200 relatives;

9 from the descendants of Hebron,

Eliel the leader and 80 relatives;

10 from the descendants of Uzziel,

Amminadab the leader and 112 relatives.

11 Then David summoned Zadok and Abiathar the priests, and Uriel, Asaiah, Joel, Shemaiah, Eliel and Amminadab the Levites. 12 He said to them, "You are the heads of the Levitical families; you and your fellow Levites are to consecrate yourselves and bring up the ark of the Lord, the God of Israel, to the place I have prepared for it. 13 It was because you, the Levites, did not bring it up the first time that the Lord our God broke out in anger against us. We did not inquire of him about how to do it in the prescribed way." 14 So the priests and Levites consecrated themselves in order to bring up the ark of the Lord, the God of Israel. 15 And the Levites carried the ark of God with the poles on their shoulders, as Moses had commanded in accordance with the word of the Lord.

16 David told the leaders of the Levites to appoint their fellow Levites as musicians to make a joyful sound with musical instruments: lyres, harps and cymbals.

17 So the Levites appointed Heman son of Joel; from his relatives, Asaph son of Berekiah; and from their relatives the Merarites, Ethan son of Kushaiah; 18 and with them their relatives next in rank: Zechariah,*15:18 Three Hebrew manuscripts and most Septuagint manuscripts (see also verse 20 and 16:5); most Hebrew manuscripts Zechariah son and or Zechariah, Ben and Jaaziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, Obed-Edom and Jeiel,*15:18 Hebrew; Septuagint (see also verse 21) Jeiel and Azaziah the gatekeepers.

23 Berekiah and Elkanah were to be doorkeepers for the ark. 24 Shebaniah, Joshaphat, Nethanel, Amasai, Zechariah, Benaiah and Eliezer the priests were to blow trumpets before the ark of God. Obed-Edom and Jehiah were also to be doorkeepers for the ark.

25 So David and the elders of Israel and the commanders of units of a thousand went to bring up the ark of the covenant of the Lord from the house of Obed-Edom, with rejoicing. 26 Because God had helped the Levites who were carrying the ark of the covenant of the Lord, seven bulls and seven rams were sacrificed. 27 Now David was clothed in a robe of fine linen, as were all the Levites who were carrying the ark, and as were the musicians, and Kenaniah, who was in charge of the singing of the choirs. David also wore a linen ephod. 28 So all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the Lord with shouts, with the sounding of rams’ horns and trumpets, and of cymbals, and the playing of lyres and harps.

29 As the ark of the covenant of the Lord was entering the City of David, Michal daughter of Saul watched from a window. And when she saw King David dancing and celebrating, she despised him in her heart.
