Atos 2

A vinda do Espírito Santo no dia de Pentecoste

1 Quando chegou o dia de Pentecoste, estavam todos reunidos em um só lugar. 2 De repente, veio do céu um som, como de um vento muito forte, e encheu toda a casa na qual estavam sentados. 3 Apareceram línguas de fogo, que se separaram e pousaram sobre cada um deles. 4 Todos ficaram cheios do Espírito Santo e começaram a falar em outras línguas, conforme o Espírito permitia que se expressassem.

5 Havia em Jerusalém judeus piedosos que procediam de todas as nações do mundo. 6 Ouvindo-se o som, ajuntou-se uma multidão, que ficou perplexa, pois cada um os ouvia falar em seu próprio idioma. 7 Atônitos e maravilhados, perguntavam:

— Não são galileus todos estes que estão falando? 8 Então, como os ouvimos, cada um de nós, na nossa língua materna? 9 Partos, medos e elamitas; habitantes da Mesopotâmia, da Judeia e da Capadócia, do Ponto e da província da Ásia, 10 da Frígia e da Panfília, do Egito e das partes da Líbia próximas a Cirene; visitantes vindos de Roma, 11 tanto judeus como convertidos ao judaísmo; cretenses e árabes. Nós os ouvimos declarar as maravilhas de Deus na nossa própria língua!

12 Atônitos e perplexos, todos perguntavam uns aos outros:

— Que significa isto?

13 Outros, contudo, zombavam e diziam:

— Eles beberam vinho demais.

Pedro se dirige à multidão

14 Então, Pedro levantou-se com os Onze e, em alta voz, dirigiu-se à multidão:

— Homens da Judeia e todos os que vivem em Jerusalém, deixem-me explicar isto! Ouçam com atenção: 15 estes homens não estão bêbados, como vocês supõem. Ainda são nove horas da manhã!*2.15 Grego: Esta é ainda a terceira hora do dia!16 Ao contrário, isto é o que foi predito pelo profeta Joel:

17 "Nos últimos dias, diz Deus,

derramarei do meu Espírito sobre todas as pessoas.

Os seus filhos e as suas filhas profetizarão,

os jovens terão visões

e os velhos terão sonhos.

18 Sobre os meus servos e as minhas servas

derramarei do meu Espírito naqueles dias,

e eles profetizarão.

19 Mostrarei prodígios em cima, no céu,

e sinais embaixo, na terra:

sangue, fogo e nuvens de fumaça.

20 O sol se tornará em trevas,

e a lua, em sangue,

antes que venha o grande e glorioso dia do Senhor.

21 E todo aquele que invocar

o nome do Senhor será salvo!".*2.17-21 Jl 2.28-32.

22 — Israelitas, ouçam estas palavras: Jesus de Nazaré foi aprovado por Deus diante de vocês por meio de milagres, maravilhas e sinais que Deus fez entre vocês por intermédio dele, como bem sabem. 23 Este homem foi entregue por propósito determinado e presciência de Deus; e vocês, com a ajuda de homens transgressores da lei,*2.23 Ou daqueles que não possuem a lei (isto é, os gentios). o mataram, pregando-o na cruz. 24 No entanto, Deus o ressuscitou dentre os mortos, rompendo os laços da morte, porque era impossível que a morte o retivesse. 25 A respeito dele, Davi disse:

"Eu sempre via o Senhor diante de mim.

Porque ele está à minha direita,

não serei abalado.

26 Por isso, o meu coração está alegre

e a minha língua exulta;

o meu corpo também repousará em esperança,

27 porque tu não me abandonarás no Hades*2.27 Também no versículo 31. Essa palavra também pode ser traduzida por inferno, morte ou profundezas.

nem permitirás que o teu Santo sofra decomposição.

28 Tu me fizeste conhecer os caminhos da vida

e me encherás de alegria na tua presença".*2.25-28 Sl 16.8-11.

29 — Irmãos, posso dizer com franqueza que o patriarca Davi morreu e foi sepultado, e o seu túmulo está entre nós até o dia de hoje. 30 Ele, porém, era profeta e sabia que Deus lhe prometera sob juramento que faria um dos seus descendentes assentar no seu trono. 31 Prevendo isso, falou da ressurreição do Cristo,*2.31 Ou Messias. Tanto Cristo (grego) como Messias (hebraico) significam Ungido; também em todo o livro de Atos. que não foi abandonado no Hades nem seu corpo sofreu decomposição. 32 Deus ressuscitou este Jesus, e todos nós somos testemunhas desse fato. 33 Exaltado à direita de Deus, ele recebeu do Pai o Espírito Santo prometido e derramou o que vocês agora veem e ouvem. 34 Pois Davi não subiu aos céus, mas ele mesmo declarou:

"O Senhor disse ao meu Senhor:

‘Assente-se à minha direita

35 até que eu faça dos seus inimigos

um estrado para os seus pés’ ".*2.34,35 Sl 110.1.

36 — Portanto, que todo o Israel fique certo de que este Jesus, a quem vocês crucificaram, Deus o fez Senhor e Cristo.

37 Quando ouviram isso, ficaram profundamente aflitos e perguntaram a Pedro e aos outros apóstolos:

— Irmãos, que faremos?

38 Pedro respondeu:

— Arrependam-se, e cada um de vocês seja batizado em nome de Jesus Cristo para perdão dos seus pecados, e receberão o dom do Espírito Santo. 39 Pois a promessa é para vocês, para os seus filhos e para todos os que estão longe, para todos quantos o Senhor, o nosso Deus, chamar.

40 Com muitas outras palavras os advertia e insistia com eles:

— Salvem-se desta geração perversa!

41 Os que aceitaram a mensagem foram batizados, e naquele dia houve um acréscimo ao número de seguidores de aproximadamente três mil pessoas.

A comunhão dos que creram

42 Eles se dedicavam ao ensino dos apóstolos e à comunhão, ao partir do pão e às orações. 43 Todos estavam cheios de temor, e muitas maravilhas e sinais eram feitos pelos apóstolos. 44 Os que criam mantinham-se unidos e tinham tudo em comum. 45 Vendiam suas propriedades e bens e os distribuíam conforme a necessidade de cada um. 46 Todos os dias, continuavam a reunir-se no pátio do templo. Partiam o pão em casa e juntos participavam das refeições com alegria e sinceridade de coração, 47 louvando a Deus e tendo a simpatia de todo o povo. E o Senhor lhes acrescentava diariamente os que iam sendo salvos.

The Holy Spirit Comes at Pentecost

1 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues*2:4 Or languages; also in verse 11 as the Spirit enabled them.

5 Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. 6 When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken. 7 Utterly amazed, they asked: "Aren’t all these who are speaking Galileans? 8 Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language? 9 Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,*2:9 That is, the Roman province by that name10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome 11 (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs—we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!" 12 Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, "What does this mean?"

13 Some, however, made fun of them and said, "They have had too much wine."

Peter Addresses the Crowd

14 Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: "Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say. 15 These people are not drunk, as you suppose. It’s only nine in the morning! 16 No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:

17 " ‘In the last days, God says,

I will pour out my Spirit on all people.

Your sons and daughters will prophesy,

your young men will see visions,

your old men will dream dreams.

18 Even on my servants, both men and women,

I will pour out my Spirit in those days,

and they will prophesy.

19 I will show wonders in the heavens above

and signs on the earth below,

blood and fire and billows of smoke.

20 The sun will be turned to darkness

and the moon to blood

before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord.

21 And everyone who calls

on the name of the Lord will be saved.’*2:21 Joel 2:28-32

22 "Fellow Israelites, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know. 23 This man was handed over to you by God’s deliberate plan and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men,*2:23 Or of those not having the law (that is, Gentiles) put him to death by nailing him to the cross. 24 But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him. 25 David said about him:

" ‘I saw the Lord always before me.

Because he is at my right hand,

I will not be shaken.

26 Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices;

my body also will rest in hope,

27 because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead,

you will not let your holy one see decay.

28 You have made known to me the paths of life;

you will fill me with joy in your presence.’*2:28 Psalm 16:8-11 (see Septuagint)

29 "Fellow Israelites, I can tell you confidently that the patriarch David died and was buried, and his tomb is here to this day. 30 But he was a prophet and knew that God had promised him on oath that he would place one of his descendants on his throne. 31 Seeing what was to come, he spoke of the resurrection of the Messiah, that he was not abandoned to the realm of the dead, nor did his body see decay. 32 God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of it. 33 Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear. 34 For David did not ascend to heaven, and yet he said,

" ‘The Lord said to my Lord:

"Sit at my right hand

35 until I make your enemies

a footstool for your feet." ’*2:35 Psalm 110:1

36 "Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah."

37 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, "Brothers, what shall we do?"

38 Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call."

40 With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, "Save yourselves from this corrupt generation." 41 Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.

The Fellowship of the Believers

42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. 46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
