Jeremias 22

Juízo sobre os reis maus

1 Assim diz o Senhor:

— Desça ao palácio do rei de Judá e proclame ali esta mensagem: 2 "Ouve a palavra do Senhor, ó rei de Judá, você que se assenta no trono de Davi; você, seus servos e o seu povo que passa por estas portas. 3 Assim diz o Senhor: ‘Administrem a justiça e o direito. Livrem o explorado das mãos do opressor. Não oprimam nem maltratem o estrangeiro, o órfão ou a viúva. Não derramem sangue inocente neste lugar. 4 Porque, se vocês tiverem o cuidado de cumprir essas ordens, então os reis que se assentarem no trono de Davi entrarão pelas portas deste palácio em carruagens e cavalos, acompanhados dos seus servos e do seu povo. 5 Mas, se vocês desobedecerem a essas ordens, juro por mim mesmo’, declara o Senhor, ‘que este palácio ficará deserto’ ".

6 Porque assim diz o Senhor a respeito do palácio real de Judá:

"Apesar de você ser para mim como Gileade

e como o cume do Líbano,

certamente farei de você um deserto,

uma cidade desabitada.

7 Prepararei destruidores contra você,

cada um com as suas armas;

eles cortarão o melhor dos seus cedros

e o lançarão ao fogo".

8 — Muitos, de numerosas nações, passarão por esta cidade e perguntarão uns aos outros: "Por que o Senhor fez uma coisa dessa a esta grande cidade?". 9 E lhes responderão: "Foi porque abandonaram a aliança do Senhor, o seu Deus, adoraram outros deuses e lhes prestaram culto".

10 Não chorem pelo morto, nem lamentem a sua perda.

Chorem amargamente, porém,

por aquele que está indo para o exílio,

porque jamais voltará

nem verá a sua terra natal.

11 Porque assim diz o Senhor acerca de Salum, filho de Josias, rei de Judá, sucessor de Josias, o seu pai, que partiu deste lugar:

— Ele jamais voltará. 12 Morrerá no lugar para onde o levaram prisioneiro; não verá novamente esta terra.

13 "Ai daquele que constrói o seu palácio por meios corruptos,

e as suas salas superiores, pela injustiça,

fazendo os seus compatriotas trabalharem por nada,

sem pagar-lhes o devido salário.

14 Ele diz: ‘Construirei para mim

um grande palácio, com salas superiores espaçosas’.

Faz amplas janelas,

reveste de cedro o palácio

e pinta-o de vermelho.

15 "Você acha que acumular cedro

faz de você um rei?

O seu pai não teve comida e bebida?

Ele fez o que era justo e direito,

e tudo ia bem com ele.

16 Ele defendeu a causa do pobre e do necessitado,

e, assim, tudo corria bem.

Não é isso que significa conhecer-me?",

declara o Senhor.

17 "Mas você não vê nem pensa em outra coisa

além de lucro desonesto,

em derramar sangue inocente

e em praticar opressão e extorsão".

18 Portanto, assim diz o Senhor a respeito de Jeoaquim, filho de Josias, rei de Judá:

"Não se lamentarão por ele, clamando:

‘Ah, meu irmão!’ ou ‘Ah, minha irmã!’.

Nem se lamentarão, clamando:

‘Ah, meu senhor!’ ou ‘Ah, Sua Majestade!’.

19 Ele terá o enterro de um jumento:

será arrastado e lançado

fora das portas de Jerusalém!

20 "Suba ao Líbano e clame;

seja ouvida a sua voz em Basã,

e clame desde Abarim,

pois todos os seus aliados foram esmagados.

21 Eu a adverti quando você se sentia segura,

mas você disse: ‘Não ouvirei!’.

Esse foi sempre o seu procedimento,

pois desde a sua juventude você não me obedece.

22 O vento conduzirá para longe todos os seus pastores,

e os seus aliados irão para o exílio.

Então, você será envergonhada e humilhada

por causa de todas as suas maldades.

23 Você, que está entronizada no Líbano,*22.23 Isto é, no palácio de Jerusalém. Veja 1Rs 7.2.

que está aninhada nos cedros,

como vai gemer quando vierem as dores de parto,

dores como as de uma mulher que está para dar à luz!".

24 — Tão certo como eu vivo — declara o Senhor —, ainda que você, Joaquim,*22.24 Hebraico: Conias, variante de Joaquim; também no versículo 28. filho de Jeoaquim, rei de Judá, fosse um anel de selar na minha mão direita, eu o arrancaria de lá. 25 Eu o entregarei nas mãos daqueles que querem tirar a sua vida e nas mãos daqueles a quem você teme, nas mãos de Nabucodonosor, rei da Babilônia, e dos babilônios.*22.25 Ou caldeus.26 Expulsarei você e a sua mãe, a mulher que o deu à luz, para outro país, onde vocês não nasceram e no qual morrerão. 27 Jamais retornarão à terra para a qual anseiam voltar.

28 É Conias*22.28 Referência a Joaquim. um vaso desprezível e quebrado,

um utensílio que ninguém quer?

Por que ele e os seus descendentes serão expulsos e lançados

em um país que não conhecem?

29 Ó terra, terra, terra,

ouça a palavra do Senhor!

30 Assim diz o Senhor:

"Registrem esse homem como homem sem filhos.

Ele não prosperará em toda a sua vida;

nenhum dos seus descendentes prosperará

nem se assentará no trono de Davi

nem governará jamais em Judá".

Judgment Against Wicked Kings

1 This is what the Lord says: "Go down to the palace of the king of Judah and proclaim this message there: 2 ‘Hear the word of the Lord to you, king of Judah, you who sit on David’s throne—you, your officials and your people who come through these gates. 3 This is what the Lord says: Do what is just and right. Rescue from the hand of the oppressor the one who has been robbed. Do no wrong or violence to the foreigner, the fatherless or the widow, and do not shed innocent blood in this place. 4 For if you are careful to carry out these commands, then kings who sit on David’s throne will come through the gates of this palace, riding in chariots and on horses, accompanied by their officials and their people. 5 But if you do not obey these commands, declares the Lord, I swear by myself that this palace will become a ruin.’ "

6 For this is what the Lord says about the palace of the king of Judah:

"Though you are like Gilead to me,

like the summit of Lebanon,

I will surely make you like a wasteland,

like towns not inhabited.

7 I will send destroyers against you,

each man with his weapons,

and they will cut up your fine cedar beams

and throw them into the fire.

8 "People from many nations will pass by this city and will ask one another, ‘Why has the Lord done such a thing to this great city?’ 9 And the answer will be: ‘Because they have forsaken the covenant of the Lord their God and have worshiped and served other gods.’ "

10 Do not weep for the dead king or mourn his loss;

rather, weep bitterly for him who is exiled,

because he will never return

nor see his native land again.

11 For this is what the Lord says about Shallum*22:11 Also called Jehoahaz son of Josiah, who succeeded his father as king of Judah but has gone from this place: "He will never return. 12 He will die in the place where they have led him captive; he will not see this land again."

13 "Woe to him who builds his palace by unrighteousness,

his upper rooms by injustice,

making his own people work for nothing,

not paying them for their labor.

14 He says, ‘I will build myself a great palace

with spacious upper rooms.’

So he makes large windows in it,

panels it with cedar

and decorates it in red.

15 "Does it make you a king

to have more and more cedar?

Did not your father have food and drink?

He did what was right and just,

so all went well with him.

16 He defended the cause of the poor and needy,

and so all went well.

Is that not what it means to know me?"

declares the Lord.

17 "But your eyes and your heart

are set only on dishonest gain,

on shedding innocent blood

and on oppression and extortion."

18 Therefore this is what the Lord says about Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah:

"They will not mourn for him:

‘Alas, my brother! Alas, my sister!’

They will not mourn for him:

‘Alas, my master! Alas, his splendor!’

19 He will have the burial of a donkey—

dragged away and thrown

outside the gates of Jerusalem."

20 "Go up to Lebanon and cry out,

let your voice be heard in Bashan,

cry out from Abarim,

for all your allies are crushed.

21 I warned you when you felt secure,

but you said, ‘I will not listen!’

This has been your way from your youth;

you have not obeyed me.

22 The wind will drive all your shepherds away,

and your allies will go into exile.

Then you will be ashamed and disgraced

because of all your wickedness.

23 You who live in ‘Lebanon,*22:23 That is, the palace in Jerusalem (see 1 Kings 7:2)’

who are nestled in cedar buildings,

how you will groan when pangs come upon you,

pain like that of a woman in labor!

24 "As surely as I live," declares the Lord, "even if you, Jehoiachin*22:24 Hebrew Koniah, a variant of Jehoiachin; also in verse 28 son of Jehoiakim king of Judah, were a signet ring on my right hand, I would still pull you off. 25 I will deliver you into the hands of those who want to kill you, those you fear—Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and the Babylonians.*22:25 Or Chaldeans26 I will hurl you and the mother who gave you birth into another country, where neither of you was born, and there you both will die. 27 You will never come back to the land you long to return to."

28 Is this man Jehoiachin a despised, broken pot,

an object no one wants?

Why will he and his children be hurled out,

cast into a land they do not know?

29 O land, land, land,

hear the word of the Lord!

30 This is what the Lord says:

"Record this man as if childless,

a man who will not prosper in his lifetime,

for none of his offspring will prosper,

none will sit on the throne of David

or rule anymore in Judah."
