1 E Salomão exclamou: "O Senhor disse que habitaria numa nuvem escura!2 Na realidade construí para ti um templo magnífico, um lugar para nele habitares para sempre! "3 Depois o rei virou-se e abençoou toda a assembléia de Israel, que estava ali de pé.4 E disse: "Bendito seja o Senhor, o Deus de Israel, que por suas mãos cumpriu o que prometeu com sua própria boca a meu pai Davi, quando lhe disse:5 ‘Desde o dia em que tirei meu povo do Egito, não escolhi nenhuma cidade das tribos de Israel para nela construir um templo em honra do meu nome, nem escolhi ninguém para ser o líder do meu povo Israel.6 Mas, agora, escolhi Jerusalém para o meu nome ali estar e escolhi Davi para governar Israel, o meu povo’.7 "Meu pai Davi tinha no coração o propósito de construir um templo em honra do nome do Senhor, o Deus de Israel.8 Mas o Senhor lhe disse: ‘Você fez bem em ter no coração o plano de construir um templo em honra do meu nome;9 no entanto, não será você que o construirá, mas o seu filho, que procederá de você; ele construirá o templo em honra do meu nome’.10 "E o Senhor cumpriu a sua promessa. Sou o sucessor de meu pai Davi, e agora ocupo o trono de Israel, como o Senhor tinha prometido, e construí o templo em honra do nome do Senhor, o Deus de Israel.11 Coloquei nele a arca, na qual estão as tábuas da aliança do Senhor, aliança que ele fez com os israelitas".12 Depois Salomão colocou-se diante do altar do Senhor, diante de toda a assembléia de Israel, e levantou as mãos para orar.13 Ele havia mandado fazer uma plataforma de bronze com dois metros e vinte e cinco centímetros de comprimento e de largura, e um metro e trinta e cinco centímetros de altura, no centro do pátio externo. Ele ficou de pé na plataforma, depois ajoelhou-se diante de toda a assembléia de Israel, levantou as mãos para o céu,14 e orou: "Senhor, Deus de Israel, não há Deus como tu nos céus e na terra! Tu que guardas a tua aliança de amor com os teus servos que, de todo o coração, andam segundo a tua vontade.15 Cumpriste a tua promessa a teu servo Davi, meu pai; com tua boca prometeste e com tua mão a cumpriste, conforme hoje se vê.16 "Agora, Senhor, Deus de Israel, cumpre a outra promessa que fizeste a teu servo Davi, meu pai, quando disseste: ‘Você nunca deixará de ter, diante de mim, um descendente que se assente no trono de Israel, se tão-somente os seus descendentes tiverem o cuidado de, em tudo, andarem segundo a minha lei, como você tem feito’.17 Agora, ó Senhor, Deus de Israel, que se confirme a palavra que falaste a teu servo Davi.18 "Mas será possível que Deus habite na terra com os homens? Os céus, mesmo os mais altos céus, não podem conter-te. Muito menos este templo que construí!19 Ainda assim, atende à oração do teu servo e ao seu pedido de misericórdia, ó Senhor, meu Deus. Ouve o clamor e a oração que teu servo faz hoje na tua presença.20 Estejam os teus olhos voltados dia e noite para este templo, lugar do qual disseste que nele porias o teu nome, para que ouças a oração que o teu servo fizer voltado para este lugar.21 Ouve as súplicas do teu servo e de Israel, teu povo, quando orarem voltados para este lugar. Ouve desde os céus, lugar da tua habitação, e quando ouvires, dá-lhes o teu perdão.22 "Quando um homem pecar contra seu próximo e tiver que fazer um juramento, e vier jurar diante do teu altar neste templo,23 ouve dos céus e age. Julga os teus servos; retribui ao culpado, fazendo recair sobre a sua própria cabeça o resultado da sua conduta, e declara sem culpa o inocente, dando-lhe o que a sua inocência merece.24 "Quando Israel, o teu povo, for derrotado por um inimigo por ter pecado contra ti, e voltar-se para ti e invocar o teu nome, orando e suplicando a ti neste templo,25 ouve dos céus e perdoa o pecado de Israel, teu povo, e traze-o de volta à terra que deste a ele e aos seus antepassados.26 "Quando fechar-se o céu, e não houver chuva por haver o teu povo pecado contra ti, e, se o teu povo, voltado para este lugar, invocar o teu nome e afastar-se do seu pecado por o haveres castigado,27 ouve dos céus e perdoa o pecado dos teus servos, do teu povo Israel. Ensina-lhes o caminho certo e envia chuva sobre a tua terra, que deste por herança ao teu povo.28 "Quando houver fome ou praga no país, ferrugem e mofo, gafanhotos peregrinos e gafanhotos devastadores, ou quando inimigos sitiarem suas cidades, quando, em meio a qualquer praga ou epidemia,29 uma oração ou uma súplica por misericórdia for feita por um israelita ou por todo o teu povo Israel, cada um sentindo as suas próprias aflições e dores, estendendo as mãos na direção deste templo,30 ouve dos céus, o lugar da tua habitação. Sim, só tu conheces o coração do homem.31 Assim eles te temerão, e andarão segundo a tua vontade durante todo o tempo em que viverem na terra que deste aos nossos antepassados.32 "Quanto ao estrangeiro, que não pertence a teu povo Israel, e que veio de uma terra distante por causa do teu grande nome, da tua mão poderosa e do teu braço forte; quando ele vier e orar voltado para este templo,33 ouve dos céus, lugar da tua habitação, e atende o pedido do estrangeiro, a fim de que todos os povos da terra conheçam o teu nome e te temam, como faz Israel, teu povo, e saibam que este templo que construí traz o teu nome.34 "Quando o teu povo for à guerra contra os seus inimigos, por onde quer que tu o enviares, e orar a ti, voltado para a cidade que escolheste e para o templo que construí em honra do teu nome,35 então ouve dos céus a sua oração e a sua súplica, e defende a sua causa.36 "Quando pecarem contra ti, pois não há ninguém que não peque, e ficares irado com eles e os entregares ao inimigo, que os leve prisioneiros para uma terra distante ou próxima;37 se eles caírem em si, na terra para a qual foram deportados, e se arrependerem e lá orarem: ‘Pecamos, praticamos o mal e fomos rebeldes’;38 e se lá eles se voltarem para ti de todo o coração e de toda a sua alma, na terra de seu cativeiro para onde foram levados, e orarem voltados para a terra que deste aos seus antepassados, para a cidade que escolheste e para o templo que construí em honra do teu nome,39 então, dos céus, lugar da tua habitação, ouve a sua oração e a sua súplica, e defende a sua causa. Perdoa o teu povo, que pecou contra ti.40 "Assim, meu Deus, que os teus olhos estejam abertos e teus ouvidos atentos às orações feitas neste lugar.41 "Agora, levanta-te, ó Senhor, ó Deus, e vem para o teu lugar de descanso, tu e a arca do teu poder. Estejam os teus sacerdotes vestidos de salvação, ó Senhor, ó Deus; que os teus santos se regozijem em tua bondade.42 Ó Senhor, ó Deus, não rejeites o teu ungido. Lembra-te da fidelidade prometida a teu servo Davi".

1 Then Solomon proclaimed: »Jehovah said he would live in a dark cloud.2 »But I have built you a high Temple. It is a home for you to live in permanently.«3 Then the king turned around and blessed the entire assembly from Israel while they were standing.4 »Thanks be to Jehovah God of Israel. With his mouth he made a promise to my father David. With his hand he carried it out.« He said:5 »Since I brought my people Israel out of Egypt, I did not choose any city from the tribes of Israel as a place to build a Temple for my name. And I did not choose any man to be prince over my people Israel.6 »Now I have chosen Jerusalem to be a place for my name. I have chosen David to rule my people Israel.7 »My father David had his heart set on building a Temple for the name of Jehovah the God of Israel.8 »However, Jehovah said to my father David: Since you had your heart set on building a Temple for my name, your intentions were good.9 »You must not build the Temple. Instead, your own son will build the Temple for my name.10 »Jehovah has kept the promise he made. I have taken my father David’s place. I sit on the throne of Israel as Jehovah promised. I have built the Temple for the name of Jehovah God of Israel.11 »I put the Ark that contains Jehovah’s promise to Israel there.«12 In the presence of the entire assembly of Israel, Solomon stood in front of Jehovah’s altar. He stretched out his hands to pray.13 Solomon had made a copper platform seven and one half feet long, seven and one half feet wide, and four and one half feet high. He put it in the middle of the courtyard. He stood on the platform, knelt in front of the entire assembly, and stretched out his hands toward heaven.14 He said: »Jehovah God of Israel, there is no god like you in heaven or on earth. You keep your promise of mercy to your servants, who obey you wholeheartedly.15 »You have kept your promise to my father David, your servant. With your mouth you promised it. With your hand you carried it out as it is today.16 »Now then, O Jehovah, God of Israel, keep your promise to my father David, your servant. You said: You will never fail to have an heir sitting in front of me on the throne of Israel if your descendants are faithful to me as you have been faithful to me.17 »Therefore, Jehovah, God of Israel, may the promise you made to David, your servant, come true.18 »Does God really live on earth with people? If heaven and the highest heaven cannot hold you, then how can this Temple that I have built?19 »Nevertheless, O Jehovah my God, please pay attention to my prayer for mercy. Listen to my cry for help as I pray to you.20 »Day and night may your eyes be on this Temple, the place where you said your name will be. Listen to me as I pray toward this place.21 »Hear the plea for mercy that your people Israel and I pray toward this place. Hear us in heaven, the place where you live. Hear and forgive.22 »If anyone sins against another person and is required to take an oath and comes to take the oath in front of your altar in this temple,23 then hear that person in heaven, take action, and make a decision. Repay the guilty person with the proper punishment, but declare the innocent person innocent.24 »An enemy may defeat your people Israel because they have sinned against you. But when your people return, praise your name, pray, and plead with you in this Temple,25 then hear them in heaven, forgive the sins of your people Israel, and bring them back to the land that you gave to them and their ancestors.26 »When the sky is shut and there is no rain because they are sinning against you and they pray toward this place, praise your name, and turn away from their sin because you made them suffer,27 then hear them in heaven. Forgive the sins of your servants, your people Israel. Teach them the proper way to live. Then send rain on the land, which you gave to your people as an inheritance.28 »There may be famine in the land. Plant diseases, heat waves, funguses, locusts, or grasshoppers may destroy crops. Enemies may blockade Israel’s city gates. During every plague or sickness29 hear every prayer for mercy made by one person or by all the people in Israel, all who know suffering or pain, who stretch out their hands toward this Temple.30 »Hear them in heaven, where you live. Forgive them and give people the proper reply. You know what is in their hearts, because you alone can read hearts.31 as long as they live in the land that you gave to our ancestors, they will reverence you and follow you.32 »People who are not Israelites will come from distant countries because of your great name, mighty hand, and powerful arm. When they come to pray facing this Temple,33 then hear them in heaven, the place where you live. Do everything they ask so that all the people of the world may know your name and respect you like your people Israel and learn that this Temple that I built bears your name.34 »When your people go to war against their enemies, you send them and they pray to you toward this city you have chosen and the Temple I built for your name,35 then hear their prayer for mercy in heaven, and do what is right for them.36 »They may sin against you. There is no man who is without sin. You may become angry with them and hand them over to an enemy who takes them to another country as captives, whether it is far or near.37 »If they come to their senses, are sorry for what they’ve done, and plead with you in the land where they are captives, saying: We have sinned. We have done wrong. We have been wicked.38 »If they change their attitude toward you in the land where they are captives. If they pray to you toward the land that you gave their ancestors, and the city you have chosen, and the Temple I have built for your name,39 then in heaven, the place where you live, hear their prayer for mercy. Do what is right for them. Forgive your people, who have sinned against you.40 »Finally, my God, may your eyes be open and your ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place.41 »Now arise, and come to your resting place, Jehovah our God, you and the ark of your power. Clothe your priests, Jehovah God, with salvation. Let your godly ones rejoice in what is good.42 »O Jehovah our God, do not reject your anointed one. Remember your mercy to your servant David!«
