1 Antes de tudo, recomendo que se façam súplicas, orações, intercessões e ação de graças por todos os homens;2 pelos reis e por todos os que exercem autoridade, para que tenhamos uma vida tranqüila e pacífica, com toda a piedade e dignidade.3 Isso é bom e agradável perante Deus, nosso Salvador,4 que deseja que todos os homens sejam salvos e cheguem ao conhecimento da verdade.5 Pois há um só Deus e um só mediador entre Deus e os homens: o homem Cristo Jesus,6 o qual se entregou a si mesmo como resgate por todos. Esse foi o testemunho dado em seu próprio tempo.7 Para isso fui designado pregador e apóstolo mestre da verdadeira fé aos gentios. Digo-lhes a verdade, não minto.8 Quero, pois, que os homens orem em todo lugar, levantando mãos santas, sem ira e sem discussões.9 Da mesma forma quero que as mulheres se vistam modestamente, com decência e discrição, não se adornando com tranças, nem ouro, nem pérolas, nem roupas caras,10 mas com boas obras, como convém a mulheres que professam adorar a Deus.11 A mulher deve aprender em silêncio, com toda a sujeição.12 Não permito que a mulher ensine, nem que tenha autoridade sobre o homem. Esteja, porém, em silêncio.13 Porque primeiro foi formado Adão, e depois Eva.14 E Adão não foi enganado, mas sim a mulher, que, tendo sido enganada, tornou-se transgressora.15 Entretanto, a mulher será salva dando à luz filhos — se elas permanecerem na fé, no amor e na santidade, com bom senso.

1 I exhort therefore, first of all, that supplications, prayers, intercessions, thanksgivings, be made for all men;2 for kings and all who are in high place; that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and gravity.3 This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior;4 who would have all men to be saved, and come to the knowledge of the truth.5 For there is [only] one God, and [only] one mediator between God and men, [the] man Christ Jesus,6 who gave himself a ransom for all; the testimony [to be borne] in its own times;7 to which I was appointed a preacher and an apostle (I speak the truth, I don't lie), a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.8 I desire therefore that the men pray in every place, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and disputing.9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefastness and sobriety; not with braided hair, and gold or pearls or costly raiment;10 but (which becomes women professing godliness) through good works.11 Let a woman learn in quietness with all subjection.12 But I don't permit a woman to teach, nor to have dominion over a man, but to be in quietness.13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve;14 and Adam wasn't beguiled, but the woman being beguiled has fallen into transgression:15 but she will be saved through her childbearing, if they stay in faith and love and sanctification with sobriety.
