1 Certa ocasião Davi perguntou: "Resta ainda alguém da família de Saul, a quem eu possa mostrar lealdade por causa de minha amizade com Jônatas? "2 Então chamaram Ziba, um dos servos de Saul, para apresentar-se a Davi, e o rei lhe perguntou: "Você é Ziba? " "Sou teu servo", respondeu ele.3 Perguntou-lhe Davi: "Resta ainda alguém da família de Saul, a quem eu possa mostrar a lealdade de Deus? " Respondeu Ziba: "Ainda há um filho de Jônatas, aleijado dos pés".4 "Onde está ele? ", perguntou o rei. Ziba respondeu: "Na casa de Maquir, filho de Amiel, em Lo-Debar".5 Então o rei Davi mandou trazê-lo de Lo-Debar.6 Quando Mefibosete, filho de Jônatas e neto de Saul, compareceu diante de Davi, prostrou-se, rosto em terra. "Mefibosete? ", perguntou Davi. Ele respondeu: "Sim, sou teu servo".7 "Não tenha medo", disse-lhe Davi, "pois é certo que eu tratarei com bondade por causa de minha amizade com Jônatas, seu pai. Vou devolver-lhe todas as terras que pertenciam a seu avô Saul; e você comerá sempre à minha mesa".8 Mefibosete prostrou-se e disse: "Quem é o teu servo, para que te preocupes com um cão morto como eu? "9 Então o rei convocou Ziba e disse-lhe: "Devolvi ao neto de Saul, seu senhor, tudo o que pertencia a ele e à família dele.10 Você, seus filhos e seus servos cultivarão a terra para ele. Você trará a colheita para que haja provisões na casa do neto de seu senhor. Mas, Mefibosete comerá sempre à minha mesa". Ziba tinha quinze filhos e vinte servos.11 Então Ziba disse ao rei: "O teu servo fará tudo o que o rei, meu senhor, ordenou". Assim, Mefibosete passou a comer à mesa de Davi como se fosse um dos seus filhos.12 Mefibosete tinha um filho ainda jovem chamado Mica. E todos os que moravam na casa de Ziba tornaram-se servos de Mefibosete.13 Então Mefibosete foi morar em Jerusalém, pois passou a comer sempre à mesa do rei. E era aleijado dos pés.

1 And David said, Is there yet any who is left of the house of Saul, that I may show him kindness for Jonathan's sake?2 And there was of the house of Saul a slave whose name was Ziba, and they called him to David; and the king said to him, Are you Ziba? And he said, Your slave is he.3 And the king said, Is there not yet any of the house of Saul, that I may show the kindness of God to him? And Ziba said to the king, Jonathan has yet a son, who is lame of his feet.4 And the king said to him, Where is he? And Ziba said to the king, Look, he is in the house of Machir the son of Ammiel, in Lo-debar.5 Then King David sent, and fetched him out of the house of Machir the son of Ammiel, from Lo-debar.6 And Mephibaal, the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, came to David, and fell on his face, and did obeisance. And David said, Mephibaal. And he answered, Look, your slave!7 And David said to him, Don't be afraid; for I will surely show you kindness for Jonathan your father's sake, and will restore you all the land of Saul your father; and you will eat bread at my table continually.8 And he did obeisance, and said, What is your slave, that you should look at such a dead dog as I am?9 Then the king called to Ziba, Saul's attendant, and said to him, All that pertained to Saul and to all his house I have given to your master's son.10 And you will till the land for him, you, and your sons, and your slaves; and you will bring in [the fruits], that your master's house may have bread to eat: but Mephibaal your master's son will always eat bread at my table. Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty slaves.11 Then Ziba said to the king, According to all that my lord the king commands his slave, so will your slave do. As for Mephibaal, [the king said], he will eat at my table, as one of the king's sons.12 And Mephibaal had a young son, whose name was Mica. And all who dwelt in the house of Ziba were slaves to Mephibaal.13 So Mephibaal dwelt in Jerusalem; for he ate continually at the king's table. And he was lame in both his feet.
