1 No primeiro dia do sexto mês do segundo ano do reinado de Dario, a palavra do Senhor veio por meio do profeta Ageu ao governador de Judá, Zorobabel, filho de Sealtiel, e ao sumo sacerdote Josué, filho de Jeozadaque, dizendo:2 "Assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos: Este povo afirma: ‘Ainda não chegou o tempo de reconstruir a casa do Senhor’ ".3 Por isso, a palavra do Senhor veio novamente por meio do profeta Ageu:4 "Acaso é tempo de vocês morarem em casas de fino acabamento, enquanto a minha casa continua destruída? "5 Agora, assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos: "Vejam aonde os seus caminhos os levaram.6 Vocês têm plantado muito, e colhido pouco. Vocês comem, mas não se fartam. Bebem, mas não se satisfazem. Vestem-se, mas não se aquecem. Aquele que recebe salário, recebe-o para colocá-lo numa bolsa furada".7 Assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos: "Vejam aonde os seus caminhos os levaram!8 Subam o monte para trazer madeira. Construam o templo, para que eu me alegre e nele seja glorificado", diz o Senhor.9 "Vocês esperavam muito, mas, para surpresa de vocês, acabou sendo pouco. E o que vocês trouxeram para casa eu dissipei com um sopro. E por que fiz isso? ", pergunta o Senhor dos Exércitos. "Por causa do meu templo, que ainda está destruído, enquanto cada um de vocês se ocupa com a sua própria casa.10 Por isso, por causa de vocês, o céu reteu o orvalho e a terra deixou de dar o seu fruto.11 Provoquei uma seca nos campos e nos montes, que atingiu o trigo, o vinho, o azeite e tudo mais que a terra produz, e também os homens e o gado. O trabalho das mãos de vocês foi prejudicado".12 Zorobabel, filho de Sealtiel, o sumo sacerdote Josué, filho de Jeozadaque, e todo o restante do povo obedeceram à voz do Senhor, o seu Deus, por causa das palavras do profeta Ageu, a quem o Senhor, o seu Deus, enviara. E o povo temeu ao Senhor.13 Então Ageu, o mensageiro do Senhor, trouxe esta mensagem do Senhor para o povo: "Eu estou com vocês", declara o Senhor.14 Assim o Senhor encorajou o governador de Judá, Zorobabel, filho de Sealtiel, o sumo sacerdote Josué, filho de Jeozadaque, e todo o restante do povo, de modo que eles começaram a trabalhar no templo do Senhor dos Exércitos, o seu Deus,15 no dia vinte e quatro do sexto mês do segundo ano do reinado de Dario.

1 In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, in the first day of the month, the word of Yahweh came by Haggai the prophet to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, saying,2 Thus speaks Yahweh of hosts, saying, This people say, It is not the time [for us] to come, the time for Yahweh's house to be built.3 Then the word of Yahweh came by Haggai the prophet, saying,4 Is it a time for you{+} yourselves to dwell in your{+} ceiled houses, while this house lies waste?5 Now therefore this is what Yahweh of Hosts says: Consider your{+} ways.6 You{+} have sown much, and bring in little; you{+} eat, but you{+} don't have enough; you{+} drink, but you{+} are not filled with drink; you{+} clothe yourselves, but there is none warm; and he who earns wages, earns wages [to put it] into a bag with holes.7 Thus says Yahweh of hosts: Consider your{+} ways.8 Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, says Yahweh.9 You{+} looked for much, and, look, it came to little; and when you{+} brought it home, I blew on it. Why? says Yahweh of hosts. Because of my house that lies waste, while you{+} run every man to his own house.10 Therefore above you{+} the heavens withhold the dew, and the earth withholds its fruit.11 And I called for a drought on the land, and on the mountains, and on the grain, and on the new wine, and on the oil, and on that which the ground brings forth, and on man, and on cattle, and on all the labor of the hands.12 Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of Yahweh their God, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as Yahweh their God had sent him; and the people feared before Yahweh.13 Then Haggai, Yahweh's messenger, spoke Yahweh's message to the people, saying, I am with you{+}, says Yahweh.14 And Yahweh stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and worked on the house of Yahweh of hosts, their God,15 in the four and twentieth day of the month, in the sixth [month], in the second year of Darius the king.
