1 Efraim alimenta-se de vento; vai atrás do vento oriental o dia inteiro e multiplica mentiras e violência. Faz tratados com a Assíria e manda azeite para o Egito.2 O Senhor tem uma acusação contra Judá, e vai castigar Jacó de acordo com os seus caminhos; de acordo com suas ações lhe retribuirá.3 No ventre da mãe segurou o calcanhar de seu irmão; como homem lutou com Deus.4 Ele lutou com o anjo e saiu vencedor; chorou e implorou o seu favor. Em Betel encontrou a Deus que ali conversou com ele.5 Sim, o próprio Senhor, o Deus dos Exércitos! Senhor é o nome pelo qual ficou famoso.6 Portanto, volte para o seu Deus; pratique a lealdade e a justiça, e confie sempre no seu Deus.7 Como os descendentes de Canaã, comerciantes que usam balança desonesta e gostam muito de extorquir,8 Efraim orgulha-se e exclama: "Como fiquei rico e abastado! Em todos os trabalhos que realizei, não encontrarão em mim nenhum crime ou pecado".9 "Mas eu sou o Senhor, o seu Deus, desde a terra do Egito; farei vocês voltarem a morar em tendas, como no dia de suas festas fixas.10 Eu mesmo falava aos profetas, dava-lhes muitas visões, e por meio deles falava em parábolas. "11 Como Gileade é ímpia! Seu povo não vale nada! Eles sacrificam bois em Gilgal, mas os seus altares são como montes de pedras num campo arado.12 Jacó fugiu para a terra de Arã; Israel trabalhou para obter uma mulher; por ela cuidou de ovelhas.13 O Senhor usou um profeta para tirar Israel do Egito, e por meio de um profeta cuidou dele.14 Efraim amargamente o provocou à ira; seu Senhor fará cair sobre ele a culpa do sangue que derramou e lhe devolverá o seu desprezo.

1 \11:12\Ephraim encompasseth me with lies, and the house of Israel with deceit: but Judah yet ruleth with God, and is faithful with the saints.2 \12:1\Ephraim feedeth on wind, and followeth after the east wind: he daily multiplieth lies and desolation; and they do make a covenant with the Assyrians, and oil is carried into Egypt.3 \12:2\The LORD hath also a controversy with Judah, and will punish Jacob according to his ways; according to his doings will he recompense him.4 \12:3\He took his brother by the heel in the womb, and by his strength he had power with God:5 \12:4\Yes, he had power over the angel, and prevailed: he wept, and made supplication to him: he found him in Beth-el, and there he spoke with us;6 \12:5\Even the LORD God of hosts; the LORD is his memorial.7 \12:6\Therefore turn thou to thy God: keep mercy and judgment, and wait on thy God continually.8 \12:7\He is a merchant, the balances of deceit are in his hand: he loveth to oppress.9 \12:8\And Ephraim said, Yet I have become rich, I have found for myself substance: in all my labors they shall find no iniquity in me that were sin.10 \12:9\And I that am the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt will yet make thee to dwell in tabernacles, as in the days of the solemn feast.11 \12:10\I have also spoken by the prophets, and I have multiplied visions, and used similitudes by the ministry of the prophets.12 \12:11\Is there iniquity in Gilead? surely they are vanity: they sacrifice bullocks in Gilgal; yes, their altars are as heaps in the furrows of the fields.13 \12:12\And Jacob fled into the country of Syria, and Israel served for a wife, and for a wife he kept sheep.14 \12:13\And by a prophet the LORD brought Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet was he preserved.15 \12:14\Ephraim provoked him to anger most bitterly: therefore will he leave his blood upon him, and his reproach will his Lord return to him.
