1 Por isso, quando não pudemos mais suportar, resolvemos ficar sozinhos em Atenas 2 e enviamos Timóteo para visitá-los. Ele é nosso irmão e colaborador de Deus na proclamação das boas-novas de Cristo. Nós o enviamos para fortalecê-los e animá-los na fé, 3 para que as dificuldades não os abalem. Mas vocês sabem que estamos destinados a passar por elas. 4 Quando ainda estávamos com vocês, nós os advertimos de que as aflições em breve viriam, e foi o que aconteceu, como bem sabem. 5 Assim, quando não pude mais suportar, enviei Timóteo para saber se continuavam firmes na fé. Tinha receio de que o tentador os tivesse vencido e todo o nosso trabalho houvesse sido inútil.

6 Agora, porém, Timóteo voltou trazendo boas notícias a respeito de sua fé e seu amor. Ele nos contou que vocês se lembram sempre com alegria de nossa visita e que desejam nos ver tanto quanto nós queremos vê-los. 7 Por isso, irmãos, apesar de nossos sofrimentos e dificuldades, ficamos animados porque vocês permaneceram firmes na fé. 8 Agora, revivemos por saber que estão firmes no Senhor.

9 Sim, agradecemos a Deus por vocês! Por sua causa, temos grande alegria na presença de Deus. 10 Noite e dia oramos por vocês com fervor, pedindo que possamos vê-los novamente a fim de ajudá-los a aperfeiçoar a fé.

11 Que Deus, nosso Pai, e nosso Senhor Jesus nos encaminhem a vocês em breve. 12 E que o Senhor faça crescer e transbordar o amor que vocês têm uns pelos outros e por todos, da mesma forma que nosso amor transborda por vocês. 13 E, como resultado, que Deus, nosso Pai, torne seu coração forte, irrepreensível e santo diante dele para quando nosso Senhor Jesus voltar com todo o seu povo santo. Amém.

1 Therefore, when we could no longer endure it, we were well pleased to be left behind in Athens alone,2 and sent Timothy, our brother and minister of God, and our fellow worker in the gospel of Christ, in order to establish you and encourage you concerning your faith,3 that no one should be disturbed by these afflictions; for you yourselves know that we are appointed unto this.4 For even when we were with you, we were telling you in advance that we were going to be afflicted, just as it also happened, and you know.5 Because of this, when I could no longer endure [it], I sent to learn about your faith, lest somehow the tempter had tempted you, and our labor be in vain.6 But now when Timothy came to us from you, and brought good news to us of your faith and your love, and that you have good remembrance of us always, longing to see us, as we also [long to see] you-7 because of this we were encouraged, brothers, in regard to you in all our affliction and distress by your faith.8 Because now we live, if you stand firm in the Lord.9 For whatever thanksgiving can we render to God for you, for all the joy with which we are rejoicing because of you in the presence of our God,10 night and day praying exceedingly that we may see your face and to perfect what is lacking in your faith?11 Now may our God and Father Himself, and our Lord Jesus Christ, lead us directly to you.12 And may the Lord make you to increase and abound in love toward one another and toward all [men], as indeed we also do toward you,13 so that He may establish your hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all His saints.
