1 Portanto, deixemos de lado os ensinamentos básicos a respeito de Cristo e sigamos em frente, alcançando a maturidade em nosso entendimento. Certamente não precisamos lançar novamente os alicerces, ou seja, o arrependimento das obras mortas, a fé em Deus, 2 o batismo, a imposição de mãos, a ressurreição dos mortos e o julgamento eterno. 3 Se Deus permitir, avançaremos para um maior entendimento.

4 Pois é impossível trazer de volta ao arrependimento aqueles que já foram iluminados, que já experimentaram as dádivas celestiais e se tornaram participantes do Espírito Santo, 5 que provaram a bondade da palavra de Deus e os poderes do mundo por vir, 6 e que depois se desviaram. Sim, é impossível trazê-los de volta ao arrependimento, pois, ao rejeitar o Filho de Deus, eles voltaram a pregá-lo na cruz, expondo-o à vergonha pública.

7 Quando a terra absorve a chuva que cai e produz uma boa colheita para o lavrador, recebe a bênção de Deus. 8 Mas, se a terra produz espinhos e ervas daninhas, para nada serve, sendo logo amaldiçoada e, por fim, queimada.

9 Amados, embora estejamos falando dessa forma, na realidade não cremos que se aplique a vocês. Temos certeza de que estão destinados às coisas melhores que pertencem à salvação. 10 Pois Deus não é injusto; não se esquecerá de como trabalharam arduamente para ele e lhe demonstraram seu amor ao cuidar do povo santo, como ainda fazem. 11 Nosso desejo é que vocês continuem a mostrar essa mesma dedicação até o fim, para que tenham plena certeza de sua esperança. 12 Assim, não se tornarão displicentes, mas seguirão o exemplo daqueles que, por causa de sua fé e perseverança, herdarão as promessas.

13 Considerem a promessa de Deus a Abraão. Uma vez que não havia ninguém superior por quem jurar, Deus jurou por si mesmo. Disse ele:

14 "Certamente o abençoarei

e multiplicarei grandemente seus descendentes".

15 Então Abraão esperou com paciência, e recebeu o que lhe fora prometido.

16 Quando a pessoa faz um juramento, invoca alguém maior que ela. E, sem dúvida, o juramento implica uma obrigação. 17 Deus também se comprometeu por meio de um juramento, para que os herdeiros da promessa tivessem plena convicção de que ele jamais mudaria de ideia. 18 A promessa e o juramento não podem ser mudados, pois é impossível que Deus minta. Portanto, nós que nele nos refugiamos estamos firmemente seguros ao nos apegarmos à esperança posta diante de nós. 19 Essa esperança é uma âncora firme e confiável para nossa alma. Ela nos conduz até o outro lado da cortina, para o santuário interior. 20 Jesus já entrou ali por nós. Ele se tornou nosso eterno Sumo Sacerdote, segundo a ordem de Melquisedeque.

1 Therefore, leaving the subject of the beginning of Christ, let us be moved to perfection, not again laying down a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God,2 of the doctrine of baptisms, of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.3 And let us do this if indeed God permits.4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and became partakers of the Holy Spirit,5 and have tasted the good word of God and [the] powerful deeds of the age to come,6 and having fallen away, to renew [them] again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and hold Him up to contempt.7 For the earth which drinks the rain often coming upon it, and bears suitable vegetation for those on account of whom it is cultivated, receives a blessing from God;8 but if it bears thorns and thistles, it is worthless and near to being cursed, of which the end [is] for burning.9 But we are persuaded concerning you, beloved, of better things and those pertaining to salvation, even though we speak in this manner.10 For God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love which you have shown toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister.11 But we desire that each one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope until [the] end,12 lest you become dull, but [become] imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.13 For when God made a promise to Abraham, since He could swear by no one greater, He swore by Himself,14 saying, "Surely blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply you."15 And so, after he had been patient, he obtained the promise.16 For men indeed swear by the greater, and the oath for confirmation [is] an end of every dispute to them.17 Thus God, wanting to show even more clearly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeableness of His counsel, guaranteed it by an oath,18 in order that through two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong encouragement, who have fled to take hold of the hope being set before [us];19 which [hope] we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and secure, and which enters into the inner [side] of the veil,20 where the Forerunner has entered on our behalf, [even] Jesus, having become a High Priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.
