1 O rei Xerxes impôs tributos a todo o seu império, incluindo as distantes regiões do litoral. 2 Suas grandes realizações e o relato completo da grandeza de Mardoqueu, a quem o rei havia promovido, estão registrados no Livro da História dos Reis da Média e da Pérsia. 3 O judeu Mardoqueu ocupou o cargo mais alto do reino, abaixo apenas do próprio rei Xerxes. Era muito importante entre os judeus, que o tinham em alta consideração, pois ele continuou a trabalhar para o bem de seu povo e a buscar o bem-estar de todos os seus descendentes.

3 Mordecai the Jew was second in rank to King Xerxes, preeminent among the Jews, and held in high esteem by his many fellow Jews, because he worked for the good of his people and spoke up for the welfare of all the Jews.
