1 Sambalate ficou furioso quando soube que estávamos reconstruindo o muro. Indignou-se e zombou dos judeus. 2 Disse na presença de seus companheiros e dos oficiais do exército samaritano: "O que esse punhado de judeus fracos pensa que está fazendo? Imaginam que serão capazes de construir o muro em um dia só porque ofereceram alguns sacrifícios? Pensam que podem fazer algo com as pedras queimadas que tiraram de um monte de entulho?".
3 Tobias, o amonita, estava ao seu lado e comentou: "Basta uma raposa subir lá, e esse muro de pedra desaba!".

2 and in the presence of his associates and the army of Samaria, he said, "What are those feeble Jews doing? Will they restore their wall? Will they offer sacrifices? Will they finish in a day? Can they bring the stones back to life from those heaps of rubble —burned as they are?"
3 Tobiah the Ammonite, who was at his side, said, "What they are building —even a fox climbing up on it would break down their wall of stones!"
