1 Jotão tinha 25 anos quando se sentou no trono. Reinou 16 anos, tendo Jerusalém como sua capital. A sua mãe era Jerusa, filha de Zadoque. 2 Conduziu-se de forma reta aos olhos do Senhor, seguindo os passos de seu pai Uzias, à excessão daquele pecado de entrar no santuário do templo. Apesar disso, o povo continuou a corromper-se. 3 Construiu a porta alta do templo e fez obras extensas de reconstrução das muralhas da cidade, na zona de Ofel, onde o templo se erguia. 4 Edificou povoações nas montanhas de Judá e erigiu fortalezas e torres fortificadas na região dos bosques.

5 Saiu vitorioso na guerra contra os amonitas, ficando a receber, durante três anos, um tributo anual de 3400 toneladas de prata, 1600 toneladas de trigo e outro tanto de cevada.

6 Jotão tornou-se poderoso, porque foi cuidadoso em dirigir os seus passos pelos caminhos do Senhor, seu Deus.

7 O resto dos acontecimentos da vida de Jotão, incluindo as guerras que travou e outros factos, está relatado no Livro dos Reis de Israel e de Judá. 8 Tinha 25 anos quando se sentou no trono e reinou 16 anos, tendo Jerusalém como sua capital. 9 Quando Jotão faleceu, foi sepultado junto dos seus antepassados na Cidade de David. O seu filho Acaz ocupou o trono.

1 Jotham was twenty and five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name also was Jerushah, the daughter of Zadok. 2 And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his father Uzziah did: howbeit he entered not into the temple of the LORD. And the people did yet corruptly. 3 He built the high gate of the house of the LORD, and on the wall of Ophel he built much.*27.3 Ophel: or, the tower 4 Moreover he built cities in the mountains of Judah, and in the forests he built castles and towers.

5 He fought also with the king of the Ammonites, and prevailed against them. And the children of Ammon gave him the same year an hundred talents of silver, and ten thousand measures of wheat, and ten thousand of barley. So much did the children of Ammon pay unto him, both the second year, and the third.*27.5 So…: Heb. 7 Now the rest of the acts of Jotham, and all his wars, and his ways, lo, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah. 8 He was five and twenty years old when he began to reign, and reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem.

9 And Jotham slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David: and Ahaz his son reigned in his stead.
