1 Lembrem-se que os sacerdotes e todos os outros membros da tribo dos levitas não receberão nenhuma terra, ao contrário das outras tribos. Por isso, os sacerdotes e os levitas deverão ser sustentados pelos sacrifícios que são trazidos ao altar do Senhor e pelas outras ofertas que o povo lhe trouxer. 2 Não precisam possuir nenhuma terra, porque o Senhor é a sua possessão! Foi isso que ele lhes prometeu.

3 As espáduas, as queixadas e o estômago de cada boi ou cordeiro trazido para ser sacrificado deve ser dado aos sacerdotes. 4 Além disso, deverão também receber as amostras dos primeiros frutos colhidos e que são trazidos em ação de graças ao Senhor; os primeiros cereais, o primeiro vinho produzido, o primeiro azeite, assim como a primeira lã no tempo da tosquia. 5 Porque o Senhor, vosso Deus, escolheu a tribo de Levi de entre as outras tribos para servir o Senhor através de todas as gerações.

6 Qualquer levita, seja onde for que viva na terra de Israel, tem o direito de vir ao lugar que o Senhor escolher, quando quiser, 7 e administrar em nome do Senhor, seu Deus, à semelhança dos outros levitas seus irmãos que ali trabalham regularmente. 8 Partilhará dos sacrifícios e das ofertas como um direito seu e não como uma esmola que lhe seja feita.

9 Quando chegarem à terra prometida que o Senhor, vosso Deus, vos vai dar, terão muito cuidado em não se deixarem corromper pelos horríveis costumes das nações que lá vivem agora. 10 Que ninguém entre algum israelita seja achado a apresentar o seu filho para ser queimado em sacrifício aos deuses pagãos. Nenhum israelita praticará coisas como artes mágicas ou magia negra, 11 ou adivinhação, invocando os espíritos dos mortos, utilizando médiuns ou adivinhos. 12 Quem quer que seja que pratique qualquer destas coisas torna-se, para o Senhor, seu Deus, objeto de abominação e repugnância; pois é por causa dessas mesmas coisas que o Senhor expulsa da terra as nações que aqui estavam. 13 Deverão andar com toda a integridade e retidão na presença do Senhor, vosso Deus. 14 Os povos cujo território vão agora ocupar, todos eles praticavam essas coisas, mas o Senhor, vosso Deus, não permite que façam tal coisa.

15 O Senhor, vosso Deus, fará levantar-se, do vosso meio, um profeta semelhante a mim, entre os vossos irmãos, um homem que deverão ouvir, e a quem deverão obedecer. 16 Porque foi isso mesmo que pediram ao Senhor, vosso Deus, junto ao monte Horebe. Ali, ao pé da montanha, rogaram-lhe que não fossem obrigados a ouvir de novo diretamente a tremenda voz do Senhor, nem a ver o terrível fogo sobre o monte, pois se isso tornasse a acontecer haveriam de morrer.

17 "Pois sim!", disse-me o Senhor. "Farei como me pediram. 18 Farei erguer-se entre eles um profeta, israelita como tu. Dir-lhe-ei o que deve declarar; será o meu porta-voz junto do povo. 19 E toda a pessoa que não escutar as minhas palavras que esse profeta dirá em meu nome, eu mesmo lhe pedirei contas disso. 20 Mas também qualquer profeta que pretender falsamente expor uma mensagem em meu nome, sem que isso corresponda à verdade, morrerá. Igualmente um profeta que se ponha a pregar em nome de outros deuses terá de morrer!"

21 Se perguntarem: "Como haveremos de saber se uma mensagem é do Senhor ou não?" 22 É assim que saberão: se aquilo que foi profetizado não acontecer é porque não foi o Senhor quem comunicou essa mensagem; foi fruto da sua própria imaginação. Não têm que se preocupar minimamente com o que ele disse.

1 The priests the Levites, and all the tribe of Levi, shall have no part nor inheritance with Israel: they shall eat the offerings of the LORD made by fire, and his inheritance. 2 Therefore shall they have no inheritance among their brethren: the LORD is their inheritance, as he hath said unto them.

3 And this shall be the priest’s due from the people, from them that offer a sacrifice, whether it be ox or sheep; and they shall give unto the priest the shoulder, and the two cheeks, and the maw. 4 The firstfruit also of thy corn, of thy wine, and of thine oil, and the first of the fleece of thy sheep, shalt thou give him. 5 For the LORD thy God hath chosen him out of all thy tribes, to stand to minister in the name of the LORD, him and his sons for ever.

6 And if a Levite come from any of thy gates out of all Israel, where he sojourned, and come with all the desire of his mind unto the place which the LORD shall choose; 7 Then he shall minister in the name of the LORD his God, as all his brethren the Levites do, which stand there before the LORD. 8 They shall have like portions to eat, beside that which cometh of the sale of his patrimony.*18.8 that…: Heb. his sale by the fathers

9 When thou art come into the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations. 10 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, 11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. 12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee. 13 Thou shalt be perfect with the LORD thy God.*18.13 perfect: or, upright, or, sincere 14 For these nations, which thou shalt possess, hearkened unto observers of times, and unto diviners: but as for thee, the LORD thy God hath not suffered thee so to do.*18.14 possess: or, inherit

15 The LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken; 16 According to all that thou desiredst of the LORD thy God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, Let me not hear again the voice of the LORD my God, neither let me see this great fire any more, that I die not. 17 And the LORD said unto me, They have well spoken that which they have spoken. 18 I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. 19 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him. 20 But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die. 21 And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the LORD hath not spoken? 22 When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.
