1 No dia 12 do décimo mês*29.1 Mês de Tebet. Entre a lua nova do mês de dezembro e o mês de janeiro., do décimo ano da prisão do rei Jeconias, veio até mim a mensagem do Senhor. 2 "Homem mortal, vira-te para o Egito e profetiza contra o seu rei, o Faraó, e contra todo o seu povo. 3 Comunica-lhes o que o Senhor Deus diz: Sou teu inimigo, ó Faraó, rei do Egito, poderoso monstro marinho que te estendes no meio dos teus rios. Tu disseste: ‘É meu, o Nilo! Criei-o para mim próprio!’ 4 Por isso, te porei anzóis no nariz e tirar-te-ei para fora da terra com peixes colados às tuas escamas. 5 Deixar-te-ei morrer no deserto, não só a ti, mas também a todo o teu peixe, sem mesmo serem enterrados. Servirás de alimento aos animais selvagens e aos pássaros. 6 Então todos os habitantes do Egito saberão que eu sou o Senhor!

A tua força, com a qual Israel contava, falhou. Israel apoiou-se em ti, mas eras um bordão já rachado. 7 Ao pegar-te com a mão, acabaste por te partir, rasgaste-lhe o ombro, deixaste-o incapaz de se mexer.

8 Por isso, te diz o Senhor Deus: Trarei um exército contra ti, ó Egito, que destruirá tanto as pessoas como os animais. 9 A terra do Egito há de tornar-se numa região desolada e os seus habitantes dar-se-ão conta de que eu sou o Senhor, e que fiz tal coisa.

Tu dizes: ‘O Nilo é meu! Fui eu quem o fiz!’ 10 Por isso, estou contra ti e contra o teu rio; arrasarei completamente a tua terra, desde Migdol até Assuão e até aos confins de Cuche*29.10 Embora nalgumas traduções bíblicas apareça como Etiópia, Cuche estava localizada a sul do Egito, numa área que envolve hoje parte da Etiópia e do Sudão.. 11 Durante 40 anos não passará vivalma por lá, seja gente, sejam animais! Ninguém viverá ali! 12 Farei do Egito uma desolação, rodeada de nações desoladas. As suas cidades manter-se-ão em ruínas durante 40 anos. Mandarei os egípcios exilados para outras terras.

13 No entanto, o Senhor Deus diz: Passados esses 40 anos, tornarei a trazer os egípcios das nações para onde foram banidos. 14 Restaurarei as riquezas do Egito e farei com que regressem à região de Patros, no sul do Egito, à sua terra natal. 15 Contudo, não passará dum país de menor importância, sem projeção. Será apenas mais uma nação subdesenvolvida; nunca mais se levantará acima das outras; jamais atingirá a importância que tinha antes.

16 Israel nunca mais esperará que lhes venha ajuda da parte do Egito. Sempre que pensar em tal coisa, logo se lembrará do pecado que antes cometeu, ao confiar em tal auxílio. E Israel saberá que só eu sou o Senhor Deus!"

17 No vigésimo sétimo ano*29.17 Seria o ano 571 a.C. do cativeiro do rei Jeconias, no primeiro dia do primeiro mês*29.17 Mês de Abibe ou Nisan. Entre a lua nova do mês de março e o mês de abril., veio até mim esta mensagem da parte do Senhor: 18 "Homem mortal, o exército do rei Nabucodonozor da Babilónia combateu duramente contra Tiro. As cabeças dos soldados tornaram-se calvas; os seus ombros esfolaram-se e empolaram*29.18 A calvície e os ombros esfolados são efeitos do carregar grandes quantidades de terra necessárias à construção de valados e rampas, e também provavelmente uma tentativa frustrada de construção duma ponte para a ilha-fortaleza.. Nabucodonozor não recebeu por isso nenhuma compensação nem pôde pagar ao exército por todo esse trabalho. 19 Por isso, diz o Senhor Deus, lhe será dada a terra do Egito. O rei Nabucodonozor levará consigo todas as riquezas egípcias como compensação, 20 pois tem trabalhado para mim durante estes 13 anos em Tiro, diz o Senhor Deus.

21 Naquele dia farei desabrochar o poder na casa de Israel e deixarei que tu, Ezequiel, lhe dirijas de novo a palavra. Então todos entenderão que eu sou o Senhor!"

1 In the tenth year, in the tenth month, in the twelfth day of the month, the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 2 Son of man, set thy face against Pharaoh king of Egypt, and prophesy against him, and against all Egypt: 3 Speak, and say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, Pharaoh king of Egypt, the great dragon that lieth in the midst of his rivers, which hath said, My river is mine own, and I have made it for myself. 4 But I will put hooks in thy jaws, and I will cause the fish of thy rivers to stick unto thy scales, and I will bring thee up out of the midst of thy rivers, and all the fish of thy rivers shall stick unto thy scales. 5 And I will leave thee thrown into the wilderness, thee and all the fish of thy rivers: thou shalt fall upon the open fields; thou shalt not be brought together, nor gathered: I have given thee for meat to the beasts of the field and to the fowls of the heaven.*29.5 open…: Heb. face of the field 6 And all the inhabitants of Egypt shall know that I am the LORD, because they have been a staff of reed to the house of Israel. 7 When they took hold of thee by thy hand, thou didst break, and rend all their shoulder: and when they leaned upon thee, thou brakest, and madest all their loins to be at a stand.

8 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will bring a sword upon thee, and cut off man and beast out of thee. 9 And the land of Egypt shall be desolate and waste; and they shall know that I am the LORD: because he hath said, The river is mine, and I have made it. 10 Behold, therefore I am against thee, and against thy rivers, and I will make the land of Egypt utterly waste and desolate, from the tower of Syene even unto the border of Ethiopia.*29.10 utterly…: Heb. wastes of waste*29.10 from…: or, from Migdol to Syene*29.10 Syene: Heb. 13 Yet thus saith the Lord GOD; At the end of forty years will I gather the Egyptians from the people whither they were scattered: 14 And I will bring again the captivity of Egypt, and will cause them to return into the land of Pathros, into the land of their habitation; and they shall be there a base kingdom.*29.14 habitation: or, birth*29.14 base: Heb. low 15 It shall be the basest of the kingdoms; neither shall it exalt itself any more above the nations: for I will diminish them, that they shall no more rule over the nations. 16 And it shall be no more the confidence of the house of Israel, which bringeth their iniquity to remembrance, when they shall look after them: but they shall know that I am the Lord GOD.

17 And it came to pass in the seven and twentieth year, in the first month, in the first day of the month, the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 18 Son of man, Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon caused his army to serve a great service against Tyrus: every head was made bald, and every shoulder was peeled: yet had he no wages, nor his army, for Tyrus, for the service that he had served against it: 19 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will give the land of Egypt unto Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon; and he shall take her multitude, and take her spoil, and take her prey; and it shall be the wages for his army.*29.19 take her spoil…: Heb. spoil her spoil, and prey her prey 20 I have given him the land of Egypt for his labour wherewith he served against it, because they wrought for me, saith the Lord GOD.*29.20 for his…: or, for his hire
