1 Depois recebi uma nova mensagem do Senhor: 2 "Homem mortal, fala na direção das montanhas de Israel e profetiza contra elas. 3 Diz-lhes assim: Ó montanhas de Israel, ouçam a palavra que o Senhor Deus dirige contra vocês, assim como contra os rios e vales! Eu, sim, eu mesmo, o Senhor, farei vir a guerra sobre vocês para destruir os vossos santuários pagãos sobre as colinas. Todas as vossas povoações serão arrasadas e queimadas, 4 e os altares dos ídolos abandonados. As vossas colunas dedicadas aos deuses serão quebradas e lançarei os vossos mortos diante dos vossos ídolos. 5 Espalharei os cadáveres dos próprios israelitas diante de todos os seus ídolos e os ossos dos seus adoradores serão espalhados por entre os restos dos altares. 6 Em todos os vossos lugares habitáveis, as cidades serão arrasadas e os altares assolados; os vossos santuários pagãos serão esmigalhados e aniquilados e os vossos ídolos feitos em bocados; os vossos altares de incenso serão desfeitos e tudo o que o povo fez será desfeito. 7 Os feridos à espada cairão em plena cidade e, então, saberão que eu sou o Senhor.

8 Mas deixarei ficar um pequeno punhado do meu povo que escapará a tudo isso e que será espalhado por entre as nações do mundo. 9 Depois, quando se encontrarem exilados pelo mundo inteiro, lembrar-se-ão de mim, pois tirarei deles esse coração adúltero, que está cheio de amor pelos ídolos, e mudarei os seus olhos lascivos que andam só à procura de novas imagens de ídolos. E acabarão por se sentir profundamente envergonhados, por causa da sua grande maldade. 10 Hão de reconhecer que só eu sou o Senhor e que não estava a enganá-los, quando lhes garantia que tudo isto iria acontecer-lhes.

11 Diz o Senhor Deus: Levanta as mãos em sinal de espanto, abana a cabeça em atitude de grande consternação e diz: ‘Ai de nós que praticámos tanta coisa má!’ E hão de perecer pela guerra, pela fome e pelas pestes. A doença ferirá os que escaparam para o exílio. A guerra destruirá os que ficaram na terra de Israel. 12 E os que tiverem conseguido escapar morrerão pela fome e nos ataques dos inimigos. É assim que derramarei o meu furor contra eles. 13 Quando virem os corpos mortos, jazendo espalhados por entre os restos dos ídolos e dos altares, no cimo de cada colina e de cada montanha, debaixo de cada árvore verde e de grandes carvalhos, os sítios onde oferecem incenso aos seus deuses, dar-se-ão conta de que só eu sou o Senhor. 14 Então estenderei a minha mão forte contra eles e esmagá-los-ei; tornarei desoladas as suas cidades, desde o deserto do sul até às bandas de Ribla no norte. E saberão que eu sou o Senhor!"

1 And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 2 Son of man, set thy face toward the mountains of Israel, and prophesy against them, 3 And say, Ye mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord GOD; Thus saith the Lord GOD to the mountains, and to the hills, to the rivers, and to the valleys; Behold, I, even I, will bring a sword upon you, and I will destroy your high places. 4 And your altars shall be desolate, and your images shall be broken: and I will cast down your slain men before your idols.*6.4 images: or, sun images 5 And I will lay the dead carcases of the children of Israel before their idols; and I will scatter your bones round about your altars.*6.5 lay: Heb. give 6 In all your dwellingplaces the cities shall be laid waste, and the high places shall be desolate; that your altars may be laid waste and made desolate, and your idols may be broken and cease, and your images may be cut down, and your works may be abolished.*6.6 images: or, sun images 7 And the slain shall fall in the midst of you, and ye shall know that I am the LORD.

8 Yet will I leave a remnant, that ye may have some that shall escape the sword among the nations, when ye shall be scattered through the countries. 9 And they that escape of you shall remember me among the nations whither they shall be carried captives, because I am broken with their whorish heart, which hath departed from me, and with their eyes, which go a whoring after their idols: and they shall lothe themselves for the evils which they have committed in all their abominations. 10 And they shall know that I am the LORD, and that I have not said in vain that I would do this evil unto them.

11 Thus saith the Lord GOD; Smite with thine hand, and stamp with thy foot, and say, Alas for all the evil abominations of the house of Israel! for they shall fall by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence. 12 He that is far off shall die of the pestilence; and he that is near shall fall by the sword; and he that remaineth and is besieged shall die by the famine: thus will I accomplish my fury upon them. 13 Then shall ye know that I am the LORD, when their slain men shall be among their idols round about their altars, upon every high hill, in all the tops of the mountains, and under every green tree, and under every thick oak, the place where they did offer sweet savour to all their idols. 14 So will I stretch out my hand upon them, and make the land desolate, yea, more desolate than the wilderness toward Diblath, in all their habitations: and they shall know that I am the LORD.*6.14 more…: or, desolate from the wilderness
