1 Eu, Paulo, chamado para ser apóstolo, não por qualquer organização ou autoridade humana, mas por Jesus Cristo e por Deus o Pai, que ressuscitou Jesus da morte, 2 dirijo esta carta às igrejas da Galácia, na companhia de todos os cristãos daqui, nossos irmãos na mesma fé.

3 Desejo que recebam a graça e a paz de Deus, nosso Pai, e do Senhor Jesus Cristo, 4 o qual se deu a si mesmo, sofrendo o castigo dos nossos pecados, de acordo com o plano de Deus, para nos livrar deste mundo mau. 5 Assim, damos toda a glória a Deus para todo o sempre. Amém!

6 Estou muito admirado da rapidez com que se desviaram de Deus, que na sua graça chamou a participar da vida eterna através de Cristo. Afinal, estão a seguir outro evangelho. 7 Aliás, nem sequer é evangelho algum. Há algumas pessoas que andam a perturbar-vos e a querer torcer o sentido do evangelho de Cristo. 8 Se alguém, ainda que seja eu próprio ou mesmo um anjo do céu, vier pregar-vos, sob o nome de evangelho, outra mensagem além daquela que já vos temos anunciado, seja maldito. 9 Disse e volto a repetir: se alguém vier pregar-vos outro evangelho diferente daquele que já uma vez aceitaram, seja maldito.

10 Se falo assim, lembrem-se que é porque procuro agradar não a pessoas, mas a Deus. Se procurasse conformar-me às opiniões de homens não poderia ser servo de Cristo.

11 Posso garantir-vos, irmãos, que o evangelho, que vos tenho anunciado, não é de origem humana; 12 não foi arquitetado pelo pensamento humano. Também nem sequer foi de homens que o recebi; foi Jesus Cristo mesmo quem mo revelou.

13 Sabem como eu era quando seguia a religião judaica e como perseguia, sem misericórdia, a igreja de Deus, procurando destruí-la. 14 Na prática da religião judaica ultrapassava muitos da minha idade, meus compatriotas, e era extremamente zeloso no respeito pelas tradições de meus pais.

15 Mas a vontade de Deus era outra! Mesmo antes de nascer, Deus já me tinha escolhido e designado, com uma bondade que eu não merecia, 16 para revelar o seu Filho em mim, a fim de que o pregasse entre os gentios. Quando chegou o momento de cumprir esse mandato, não fui imediatamente procurar a opinião de ninguém; 17 nem sequer voltei a Jerusalém encontrar-me com os que já antes de mim eram apóstolos. Antes parti para a Arábia, regressando depois a Damasco.

18 Foi só passados três anos que tornei a ir a Jerusalém para contactar pessoalmente com Pedro, tendo ficado com ele durante quinze dias. 19 E não vi nenhum outro dos apóstolos, senão Tiago, irmão do Senhor. 20 Acreditem que aquilo que vos escrevo é a verdade; Deus é testemunha disso. 21 E depois dessa visita parti para a Síria e para a Cilícia. 22 Entretanto os crentes das igrejas da Judeia continuavam sem me conhecer pessoalmente; 23 apenas tinham ouvido dizer que aquele que perseguia os cristãos anunciava agora a fé que antes procurava destruir. 24 E davam glória a Deus por minha causa.

6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: 7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. 9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

10 For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ. 11 But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man. 12 For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ. 13 For ye have heard of my conversation in time past in the Jews’ religion, how that beyond measure I persecuted the church of God, and wasted it: 14 And profited in the Jews’ religion above many my equals in mine own nation, being more exceedingly zealous of the traditions of my fathers. 15 But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother’s womb, and called me by his grace, 16 To reveal his Son in me, that I might preach him among the heathen; immediately I conferred not with flesh and blood: 17 Neither went I up to Jerusalem to them which were apostles before me; but I went into Arabia, and returned again unto Damascus. 18 Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to see Peter, and abode with him fifteen days. 19 But other of the apostles saw I none, save James the Lord’s brother. 20 Now the things which I write unto you, behold, before God, I lie not. 21 Afterwards I came into the regions of Syria and Cilicia; 22 And was unknown by face unto the churches of Judaea which were in Christ: 23 But they had heard only, That he which persecuted us in times past now preacheth the faith which once he destroyed. 24 And they glorified God in me.
