1 Nesse tempo, restaurarei a prosperidade de Judá e de Jerusalém. 2 Reunirei os exércitos do mundo no vale onde o Senhor julga, o vale de Jeosafá, e ali os castigarei por terem ferido o meu povo, por terem feito com que a minha possessão se tivesse espalhado entre as nações e por terem dividido entre si a minha terra. 3 Dispuseram do meu povo como escravos; deram um rapaz em troca duma meretriz e uma rapariga em troca de vinho bastante para se embriagarem.

4 Atenção, Tiro e Sídon, não tentem interferir! Estão a tentar vingar-se de mim, cidades da Filisteia? Cuidado! Em breve farei cair sobre as vossas cabeças a recompensa que merecem. 5 Vocês levaram a minha prata e o meu ouro, assim como todos os tesouros preciosos que me pertenciam; levaram tudo para os vossos templos pagãos. 6 Venderam o povo de Judá e Jerusalém aos gregos, que os levaram para longe, para as suas terras. 7 Mas vou trazê-los de novo desses sítios para onde os venderam e dar-vos-ei a paga de tudo o que fizeram. 8 Venderei os vossos filhos e filhas ao povo de Judá, que por sua vez os venderão aos sabeus, nação remota." Trata-se duma promessa que o Senhor dá.

9 Anuncia longe e perto: Aprontem-se para a guerra! Alistem os vossos melhores guerreiros! Façam a listagem de todas as armas que possuem! 10 Forjem espadas das vossas enxadas e lanças das foices. Diga o fraco: "Sou forte!" 11 Juntem-se e venham, povos de toda a parte!

E agora, Senhor, faz descer ali os teus valentes.

12 "Convoca as nações e trá-las ao vale de Jeosafá, porque será ali que pronunciarei a sentença sobre todos eles. 13 Que a foice seja lançada! A seara está madura. Pisem nos lagares, pois estão repletos da maldade destes homens."

14 Multidões e multidões esperam neste vale, o vale da Decisão! Porque o dia do Senhor está perto! Será no vale da Decisão! 15 O Sol e a Lua escurecerão e as estrelas apagarão a sua luz. 16 O Senhor clama desde Sião e levantará a sua voz em Jerusalém; a Terra e os céus começam a tremer. Contudo, para este povo de Israel o Senhor será bom. Ele é o seu refúgio e a sua força.

17 Então saberão, enfim, que eu sou o Senhor, vosso Deus, em Sião, no meu santo monte. Jerusalém será de novo santa. Virá o tempo em que nenhum exército estrangeiro a atravessará.

18 Escorrerá mosto das montanhas e leite das colinas. Os rios já secos de Judá encher-se-ão de água e jorrará água do templo do Senhor que regará o vale de Sitim. 19 O Egito será destruído e Edom também, por causa da sua violência contra os judeus, pois mataram gente inocente na sua própria terra.

20 Contudo, Israel prosperará para sempre e Jerusalém permanecerá de geração em geração. 21 Porque purificarei a sua culpa dos crimes que eu ainda não tinha perdoado. E o Senhor habitará em Sião!

1 For, behold, in those days, and in that time, when I shall bring again the captivity of Judah and Jerusalem, 2 I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead with them there for my people and for my heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and parted my land. 3 And they have cast lots for my people; and have given a boy for an harlot, and sold a girl for wine, that they might drink. 4 Yea, and what have ye to do with me, O Tyre, and Zidon, and all the coasts of Palestine? will ye render me a recompence? and if ye recompense me, swiftly and speedily will I return your recompence upon your own head; 5 Because ye have taken my silver and my gold, and have carried into your temples my goodly pleasant things:*3.5 pleasant: Heb. desirable 6 The children also of Judah and the children of Jerusalem have ye sold unto the Grecians, that ye might remove them far from their border.*3.6 the Grecians: Heb. the sons of the Grecians 7 Behold, I will raise them out of the place whither ye have sold them, and will return your recompence upon your own head: 8 And I will sell your sons and your daughters into the hand of the children of Judah, and they shall sell them to the Sabeans, to a people far off: for the LORD hath spoken it.

9 Proclaim ye this among the Gentiles; Prepare war, wake up the mighty men, let all the men of war draw near; let them come up:*3.9 Prepare: Heb. Sanctify 10 Beat your plowshares into swords, and your pruninghooks into spears: let the weak say, I am strong.*3.10 pruninghooks: or, scythes 11 Assemble yourselves, and come, all ye heathen, and gather yourselves together round about: thither cause thy mighty ones to come down, O LORD.*3.11 cause…: or, the LORD shall bring down 12 Let the heathen be wakened, and come up to the valley of Jehoshaphat: for there will I sit to judge all the heathen round about. 13 Put ye in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe: come, get you down; for the press is full, the fats overflow; for their wickedness is great. 14 Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision: for the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision.*3.14 decision: or, concision, or, threshing 15 The sun and the moon shall be darkened, and the stars shall withdraw their shining. 16 The LORD also shall roar out of Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth shall shake: but the LORD will be the hope of his people, and the strength of the children of Israel.*3.16 hope: Heb. place of repair, or, harbour 17 So shall ye know that I am the LORD your God dwelling in Zion, my holy mountain: then shall Jerusalem be holy, and there shall no strangers pass through her any more.*3.17 holy: Heb. holiness

18 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the mountains shall drop down new wine, and the hills shall flow with milk, and all the rivers of Judah shall flow with waters, and a fountain shall come forth of the house of the LORD, and shall water the valley of Shittim.*3.18 flow: Heb. go 19 Egypt shall be a desolation, and Edom shall be a desolate wilderness, for the violence against the children of Judah, because they have shed innocent blood in their land. 20 But Judah shall dwell for ever, and Jerusalem from generation to generation.*3.20 dwell: or, abide 21 For I will cleanse their blood that I have not cleansed: for the LORD dwelleth in Zion.*3.21 for the…: or, even I the LORD that
