1 E Eliú prosseguiu:

2 "Achas que é justo dizeres:

‘Maior é a minha justiça do que a de Deus?’

3 Ainda dizes: ‘Que vantagem tenho eu,

ou que ganho teria se abandonasse o meu pecado?’

4 Vou responder-te,

assim como a todos os teus amigos.

5 Olha para o céu,

vê como as nuvens estão bem acima de ti.

6 Se pecares, que mal poderás fazer contra Deus?

Se multiplicas os teus crimes, nenhum prejuízo lhe causas.

7 Da mesma forma, se fores justo, o que lhe darás?

O que receberá das tuas mãos?

8 Os teus pecados podem, sim, afetar os outros homens;

igualmente, os teus atos de justiça poderão beneficiá-los.

9 Os que vivem oprimidos podem gritar, sob o efeito de injúrias,

e gemer sob o braço dos poderosos.

10 Contudo, nenhum deles pergunta:

‘Onde está Deus, o meu Criador,

aquele que inspira cânticos durante a noite?

11 Que nos ensina mais que aos animais de toda a Terra

e nos torna mais sábios que as aves dos altos céus?’

12 Se alguém lhe lançar essa questão,

ele não replicará com o castigo próprio de tiranos.

13 Pois Deus não ouve clamores sem sinceridade,

nem para eles atentará o Todo-Poderoso.

14 Muito menos te ouvirá, se disseres que não o vês!

A tua causa está diante dele, portanto, espera nele.

15 Imaginas que, na sua ira, Deus parou de castigar,

que não leva em consideração o orgulho e a iniquidade dos homens.

16 Assim, Job, falas demais,

porém, não sabes o que estás a dizer!"

1 Elihu spake moreover, and said, 2 Thinkest thou this to be right, that thou saidst, My righteousness is more than God’s? 3 For thou saidst, What advantage will it be unto thee? and, What profit shall I have, if I be cleansed from my sin?*35.3 if…: or, by it more than by my sin 4 I will answer thee, and thy companions with thee.*35.4 answer…: Heb. return to thee words 5 Look unto the heavens, and see; and behold the clouds which are higher than thou. 6 If thou sinnest, what doest thou against him? or if thy transgressions be multiplied, what doest thou unto him? 7 If thou be righteous, what givest thou him? or what receiveth he of thine hand? 8 Thy wickedness may hurt a man as thou art; and thy righteousness may profit the son of man.

9 By reason of the multitude of oppressions they make the oppressed to cry: they cry out by reason of the arm of the mighty. 10 But none saith, Where is God my maker, who giveth songs in the night; 11 Who teacheth us more than the beasts of the earth, and maketh us wiser than the fowls of heaven? 12 There they cry, but none giveth answer, because of the pride of evil men. 13 Surely God will not hear vanity, neither will the Almighty regard it.

14 Although thou sayest thou shalt not see him, yet judgment is before him; therefore trust thou in him. 15 But now, because it is not so, he hath visited in his anger; yet he knoweth it not in great extremity:*35.15 he hath: that is, God hath*35.15 he knoweth: that is, Job knoweth 16 Therefore doth Job open his mouth in vain; he multiplieth words without knowledge.
